Saboten Con Report

gaming girl
I got to indulge my inner geekdom this past weekend at Saboten Con!

I had a blast! I managed to finish my Kendappa costume. (Um...though I did have to stay up until 3:30 am the day of the con to do it...) I wish I'd managed to make her harp, though because everyone kept asking me if I was Belldandy. *sigh*

I also entered the AMV contest, and entered my BJD Didi into the BJD Fashion Show. I didn't win anything, but Didi did! LOL More on that here.

Okay, here's my run down on my likes and dislikes of the con )

Okay, I'll post pics of me in my Kendappa costume later, as well as a link to my AMV.

BOING!!!
Peanutopolis \pE-nut-a-pu-lis\ (noun) a state of mind making you feel very strong and powerful, almost mayor-like.

This is what I get for trying a different candybar and reading the wrapper? I think I'll go back to Three Muskateers now.

Help Me!
Still busy with work. Still no cake classes. Never seem to have time anymore. I did update [info]wojiantianshi!

Oof.

Kendappa Moment
I've been super-duper busy lately, with working at my new job and all. Did I mention it's full time? Huzzah! Even if it's Jewelry again, and not Culinary, I'm not overly disappointed right now. Not with it being full time, and a pretty relaxed place to work. Not being very stressful is definately a good thing. And I've gotten several compliments on how I set up the cases. So that's awesome.

I don't have much else to report right now. I haven't gotten things worked out with my cake classes yet. I hope to get that taken care of soon - this weekend maybe? I'll have to see.

Movies

Zoom!
Saw this on [info]kynolef's journal and decided to try it myself. But I've been a bit busy, so it took me awhile to put together a montage. Finally did it though.

Rules!

1. Pick fifteen random films or films you
like or all the movies you have ever seen
ever if they total less than fifteen.

2. Find images for these films. Google is
very curious about your taste in films.

3. Make a numbered montage of these images
in your editing program of choice. If this
is something other than Photoshop, that's
fine -- this is a don't ask, don't tell meme.

4. Post this to your LJ and hope someone
cares enough to guess. Cut tags are entirely
optional. You may tell your friends to complain
to me instead since I said it was okay.

5. Post the answers when you feel like it.

15 Movies You've Probably Never Seen )

Something I found out while doing this search:

Aside from my taste in musicals, it seems to be public concensus that I have the worst taste in movies around. It was extremely hard to find pictures for this of the movies I wanted. Half the pictures I did find were on review sites dissing them. Hmph. Whatever. I love them anyhoo.

News!

Cake!
Hey, everyone!

I've got lots of good news. I've got a job, for starters - YAY! I'm back in regular retail again, nothing food related - which is a drag in a way. But it pays alot better than my work at the ice cream store did, and it's a job. Right now, that pretty important, ne?

I'm also returning to my teaching. Yours truly is now a WMI (That's Wilton Method Instructor for the uniformed) again. I know I complained alot toward the end of my teaching days because of the way my accounts were behaving. But this is a brand new store, with brand new people. So hopefully things will be better. Besides, I had some good times as a WMI too. Let's not forget:

Behold, the Power of Cake

Behold the Power of Cake - Part 2

To commisurate, I mean commemorate this occasion (J/K! I'm really happy at the idea of teaching again) I've updated the Edible Arts section of my website! I've still got lots of pictures to add, but I've added a bunch already, and revamped the look to something simpler. I might exchange the words for banners, since it might be a little too simple. Still, I'm mainly pleased at having added so many new pictures, so, please go take a look!

Job Update

  • Mar. 1st, 2008 at 8:32 AM
*sigh*
So, I put in a bunch of apps, and I've gotten one whole interview. No news yet on what came of it either. Someone shoot me.

I'm really frustrated by all this. Second year in a row I've gotten so sick I've had to leave my job. Last year I was stuck in bed for nearly two months. Not as bad this time, strangely enough considering this time I went to the hospital and last year it was only the doctor's office, so I'm twice as frustrated over having no job. I have plenty of experience, so will they just friggin call me?

Help Me!
It's all [info]risquecutie's fault. Really, it is. Like alot of other things I've gotten into. Cosplay comes to mind. Lolita Fashion. Comic Books. Not Anime, though. [info]akainikkichou takes the blame for that. Anyhoo...

BJDs. She has me hooked on BJDs. So much so, that I ordered one. He arrived the 18th. Since I don't want to spam my FL endlessly, I have a journal dedicated to what is going to eventually be a growing collection. Note the eventually. In the meantime swing by [info]wojiantianshi to see pics and hear all about everything connected to Didi and any other BJDs that will follow.

Car!

Piyo Piyo!
So, after two months of searching, numerous dealerships, and lots of windbagging about how I should get a co-signer (Which I ignored), I finally have a car!

A SUV, actually. And, since my family is weird, they insist that I should brag about it. I thought it was a little odd, but I'm kind-of getting into it. This was the first time I've purchased a car, and I'm still getting used to the idea that it's mine. LOL

It's a 2001 Isusu Rodeo LSE (That stands for Limited Special Edition. Look - you learn something new everyday.) )

It's got leather seats. )

Plus a Cassette Player and a 6 CD Changer )

Also note the roof rack. :) Very handy for trips to conventions. Plus a trailer hitch. And side opening back door. (Well, the window opens up, but the door opens to the side. Which I'm learning to like alot.) And the color is Bronze. That's my story, and I'm sticking to it.

So there's my bragging for the day.

The good: I've got my phone back!

The bad: My only internet connection right now is my phone.

Whatever: To all my friends who said I had to see the new King Kong, I only have this to say - WTF?

MY PHONE!!!

  • Jul. 5th, 2007 at 10:32 AM
Aaaahhhh
My phone died and I had to send it in to get repaired. I have this dumb loner phone that's a piece of shit. I've been going on Nokia's site to check it's repair status. They've had it since the 25th, and it's still "under repair". I want my phone back! Waaaah!

Official Cake Decorator!

  • May. 20th, 2007 at 12:44 AM
Cake!
I finally managed to get a new job. And, guess what? I'm a cake decorator!

It's a little stressful right now, because my speed needs up. (Well, I can breeze out shell borders with confetti and stringwork, but Floral Designs and 3-D Car Cakes is another story...) It's a stickler point with my boss since the person who did the cakes before me was apparently slow.

Since that was important to him, I asked - "How many cakes do you go through a week, then? What's the rate neccessary to keep up?"

His reply was - "I don't know. We haven't really kept track of that."

He shall henceforth be referred to in my LJ as "Liu Chan". (Sorry, if you're not into Romance of the Three Kingdoms, you won't get the joke...)

Of course he has to be there the day everything decides to give me trouble, and the first two cakes take me a good long time. But, hey - it was a half-sheet and a 3-D car cake - so some slack I think is called for! Especially with the icing tending toward soft and the fact that I had to dye two of the colors. One being black. (C'mon, do you know how much dye it takes to make icing black?) And they'd requested a dual color border - which means bag striping. (Whoops, my bad. Since someone wanted red and white flowers, I striped the bag since the red was too soft for roses alone. (I was humming "Painting the roses red" the whole time...) Since there was leftover, I decided to use it up on some cakes for the case. That's where she spotted it.) The point is - that's alot of extra work for the two cakes, hence why it seemed to take so long. (That and the freezer door kept sticking. Hey, let me in!) (Oh, did I mention these were ice cream cakes I'm decorating?)

It's still really exciting to finally be involved in the industry this way, though. It's part of what I've wanted for a long time now, and makes me feel like I've really actually gotten somewhere after trying for so long.
