This election has been Obama's to lose from the start.
He's certainly doing an excellent job at it too.
And the marine layer came back last night.
Depressing.
On the plus side MSNBC is finally getting rid of the loathsome Chris Matthews. |

| ...And So It Begins |
[Sep. 8th, 2008·.¸¸.¤* *¤. ¸¸.·08:31 am] |
Scare for a Cure build season is here! I love the smell of sawdust.
After spending far too much time puzzling things out with pencils and graph paper, I got the passenger compartment of the raft framed on Saturday. As soon as the sheet goods appear I'll be framing out the benches and cladding the whole thing in lauan.
On Sunday we had a new volunteer orientation party and had massive turnout -- lots of new faces, including one that I'll probably recruit to join my intrepid corps of guides. Speaking of guides, I now have commitments from about ten of my veterans to play this year, which is wonderful for this early in the season.
(For the few of you who haven't heard me mention guides before, each group of guests that goes through the haunt on run nights has an actor who accompanies them for pretty much their entire 30-40 minute trip through the event. That actor is the guide. They keep the guests and station actors safe, reinforce important plot points, and generally make sure the guests get the best show possible. Station actors usually have some kind of script to follow, but guiding tends to be very free-form and improvisational. It's a blast; I started guiding at the second Haunted Trails way back in '97 and got suckered into being in charge of the guides a few years later.) |

| | sympathetic | ] | Seamus had a rough weekend.
1. He jumped onto a small corner "table" which which held a glass bowl and a pottery candleholder and not much else because it was so small. Too small for Seamus, as it turns out. The ensuing crash was impressive, but the neither the bowl nor the candleholder survived. They will be missed.
2. He likes his new food. He likes it so much that he eats it waaay too fast. So fast, in fact, that it makes his widdle tummy hurt. Usually, he expresses his tummy ache on the tile floor, which, while still unpleasant, is probably as good a place as any to express one's tummy ache. Saturday, however, he decided that my side of the bed was more comfortable.
3. He attempted to escape when the door wasn't quite sealed. He successfully opened the door by sticking his paw under it and pulling the door towards him. However, he also managed to get his claw stuck in the bottom of the door. When we finally noticed him, he was sitting next to the door trying to look nonchalant while his right paw remained attached. It was very much like catching a kid with his hand stuck in the candy jar, only much, much cuter.
4. He attempted to jump onto the bed last night but misjudged the solidity of the blanket on the edge. The sound effects went something like "whoosh (that's the jump)", "small thud (part of him gets to the bed, most of him doesn't)", "clamber", "scramble", "desperate clamber", "far more desperate scramble", "big thud".
As for my weekend, well, that's another post. |

You know it's been summer for a while when your "eat anything" dog begins to spit out ripe blackberries that aren't absolutely perfect. And I mean candy-sweet in a way that I didn't even know blackberries could achieve when I lived in Texas. She'll roll it around on her tongue, squish it a little, then drop it on the ground and look at me to say, "Try again, a little higher up, maybe. Not too shiny: those are still filling out." |

| Quincy: King of Cats |
[Sep. 7th, 2008·.¸¸.¤* *¤. ¸¸.·09:37 am] |

Yesterday we went to the animal shelter, "just to look." Ha, ha. We came home with Quincy, a seven month old little dude with an attitude.
He uses the litter box and takes care of himself just fine, thank you. He likes to take swipes at the dog when she just gets too excited and starts bouncing around and being crazy. They're settling into some sort of relationship, but yesterday it was just a lot of barking at the interloper.

| And on the Sixth Day, I Ate |
[Sep. 6th, 2008·.¸¸.¤* *¤. ¸¸.·09:40 pm] |
I had breakfast, then I dragged my little dogs through a leonberger-packed Marymoore park. (Granted, it only takes seven leonbergers to pretty much fill Marymoore. Zoe was horrified when a single leonberger had her completely surrounded on all five sides, and proceeded to sniff her butt.)
( Then I went to The Big Green Egg Fest ) |

my chocolate-loving mom has been going through the health wringer lately, so I sent her some See's candy--don't have them in FL. The fun part is you can customize what's in the box, just like if you were at the store. They send it all overnight air, packed so it's guaranteed not to melt. Yay! |

This collection of 3 interconnected novellas set in academia was a highly entertaining read. The felines creeping through the text were not all that earned this work a comparison to Poe. Suspenseful and sometimes laugh-out-loud funny. |
