i saw james and the giant peach tonight on cable. it was really cute. that was my favorite book as a kid growing up, but i haven't read it in a long time so i don't remember how much was from the book and how much was "made for the movie." but i lived the peach and the giant bugs. i also loved how Patsy (Joanna Lumley) was as the evil aunt spiker. she was creepy looking, but acted the part brilliantly. Lupin (david thewlis) did the earth worm... and susan sarandon did miss spider. it was a great tim burton style visual movie, and cute for the kids (though a few times there was a little too much singing for my taste) but i still liked it a lot. kinda makes me wanna read the book again, but i have so many books already on the "to read" pile. anyway, if you haven't seen it yet, you should. its cute. i went to the pet store on the way home from work (needed cat food) and i opted to purchase a new "harness" style leash for my cat spooky. he loves the outside, and anytime you open the door, if you aren't paying attention to where he is, he will dart out... he doesn't go far, but will just run out into the yard and roll around. so i was thinking if i put the harness/leash on him maybe he could just investigate the outside and it would be no big deal. he needs the harness though cuz just a plain collar he will get out of, or choke himself trying to run. one night i will have to try this... though not too late because of the mosquitos... i hate mosquitos even though they seem to love me. :\ i also went to target and i was so excited to find scotch brand fasteners. these are basically like velcro, but not a "hook and loop" system. its just plastic nubbies that squish together and "lock" in place. when i got a new car, i had to put my EZ Pass on the new windshield... well i got the industrial strength velcro and put it up, and after about 3 weeks the glue melted (my car sits in a parking lot baking in the summer sun for 8+ hours a day) and my EZ pass fell down. i put it back up. it fell down. the old stuff was these scotch brand ones, but i didn't know that, i just knew what they looked like... and you know what?? target had them. :D i was so freaking excited cuz i am sick of holding up the stupid EZ Pass up to the window every day. i wiped all the sticky crap off the glass (with the help of Goo Gone) and now tomorrow morning i have a new sticky thing to put up and it will be awesome. i had those things in the ford focus, and it lasted me the whole time i had the car... so that makes me happy. :P wheeee Tags: ez pass sticky things, james and the giant peach, spooky likes the outside

i got my replacement parts for the union jack side scuttles like 3 weeks ago, but we finally got some epoxy glue and glued them on to the car tonight... now my car is complete again. ^_^ i hope some douche doesn't try to take them again, because the glue is like super strong. (for those of you who didn't know, like 2 wks after i got my car, some asshat stole my little union jack accessory off my car from the parking lot at work... so i had to get new ones.) didn't do much else today. had a big loafie day to recuperate from yesterday. chris and i DVR'd the TV Land show "She's got the Look" which is basically america's next top model for women over 35. we just watched the last 2 episodes tonight. it was good, the woman i wanted to win (bahia) didn't win, but she came in 3rd. it was an interesting show to watch, and i liked it. i typically don't watch these silly reality shows, but i liked this one. back to work tomorrow *sigh* Tags: loafie day, mini, union jack side scuttle

friday night after work, i went around and made a list for the food store... then went to the food store. spent like $150 on food, mainly things for the BBQ saturday night, but some other things too. when i got home from the store, i see that my neighbors across the street have people coming over already, and it was around 7pm. i thought their game night thing started at 8pm. oops. chris had mowed the lawn while i was at the store and he needed a shower, plus we had to eat something... so we walked over around 8 and told them "sorry, we thought it was at 8pm". it was super fun though. it was jeff's birthday on saturday so the family was over, plus they have a daughter and she was going to sleep over grandma's for the first time. so soon after we got there, all the parents left. they had some awesome cake though for jeff's b-day - and it was vegan cake and it was awesome. i told summer "it tastes like real cake", and she assured me that it was real cake, just vegan. hahahaha the first game we played was "apples to apples" which is super fun with a big group of people because you get such silly/retarded answers for things. after 2 rounds of that, we took a snack break and then started playing Pop5, which is a game made from the same people who do Cranium. it was super fun, and we got lots of silly answers. the one girl had "american pie" the movie as the topic, so she sculpted a penis and a piece of pie. well in the yelling trying to guess stage, one of the things yelled was "cake and balls" so that became the default answer for everything. hahahahaha we had a good time. it was also funny because after the parents left, chris and i were the oldest people there. i got prince's "when doves cry" song as a topic, and chris was on my team, so i did the dice roll, and one of the letters was an A so i said Apollonia. and he's like "prince, purple rain, when doves cry" and we got it in like 5 seconds. one of the other people was like what the hell is Apollonia?? hahahaha anyway we had a great time, and were up way past our bedtime... but luckily we only had to walk across the street to go home :) ***** saturday morning i slept in a bit, but after breakfast went and started prepping for the BBQ. i bought 2 family packs of chicken breasts, so i had to trim all the fat off and put them in the marinade (Caribbean jerk spice) for the day. then i had to make "crabbies" which have become our signature appetizer thing. its chris's mom's recipe. it's basically crab meat, cheese, garlic, old bay and butter on an english muffin that is baked. they're quite tasty, but i had to make them up, then cut 'em up and put them in the freezer for later. then i cleaned the kitchen. then vacuumed. then wiped down stuff. put things away. i generally was miserable for about 2-3 hours because i hate cleaning. yes, i like my house to look nice, but i hate doing it. chris in the mean time was doing stuff outside, setting up the chairs and tables and stuff, did some minor yard things. then he cleaned the bathroom. last thing we went on a beer run. got a lot of beer.we got too much, but chris was also planning because next weekend he is going away with his friends and will bring whatever's left for that... we had a great time. lots of people came over, we had good food. good times. at the end of the night, we watched some episodes of robot chicken cuz that's always hilarious, and a fun way to end the night. (we record them on the DVR). one of the best ever: hello kitty coughing up a hairball ROTFL anyway, good times... have so much food leftover. we'll be eating burgers and chicken for most of the week. plus, i have a 2 foot wide fruit plate that i think i will bring to the office tomorrow for the vultures to eat. lol. well fuckin' a.... i go over to neil gaiman's blog today... and i see that he has added appearance dates for when he will be "touring" to promote his new book "the graveyard book"... and guess what? "...Tuesday the 30th of September I'll be doing an event in New York.
Weds Oct 1st, I'll be in Philadelphia...."october first you say??? well gee mr. neil, tuesday september 30th i will be in philadelphia. and on wednesday october 1st i will be in new york to see the bunnymen at radio city music hall. why do my worlds have to collide?????? why is the universe mean to me????? yes i have met neil before, but he hardly ever comes to philadelphia, and i will have to miss it. surely i will be having a great time with all my bunnymen friends and will not even notice that i missed it... but still. why does he pick the ONLY DAY I HAVE PLANS to come to philadelphia... this sucks. i wanna see neil dammit. maybe i can persuade my husband to go to the neil event by himself and buy one of the books there and get it signed for me. i doubt it though. :P Tags: i love neil, the universe is spiteful
