Thanks for rolling out the Fascist red carpet. It's time to kick all of them out. We need a reset button on Washington.

Really?
So, your candidate lost the primary, so you'll cross party lines to vote against base interests in order to make a point.
Please. Don't even vote. Stay home.
This isn't a zero-sum game/winner take all contest.
Just because you have the right to vote, doesn't mean you SHOULD. Too many petty and stupid votes are worse than not voting.
Damn.

Hmmmm..well now Mr Chomsky... Jun. 27th, 2008 @ 12:14 pm
This is a pretty interesting view of the current election cycle...

More comment fun! Plus extra drivel... Jun. 27th, 2008 @ 10:38 am
I love how the nature of political debate has devolved to insult and talking points. No real battle of minds to a defendable position, no give and take..just name calling, finger pointing and righteous proclamations. I blame it on the marketing of the political process. Sound bite campaigns, big money risks...packaging candidates like any other product..demographics and target markets. Decisions made on future electability and not deep seated conviction.
It is time for real campaign reform. Though I am uneasy with Obama opting out of public financing, we all know that system was pretty much broken beyond repair. And though I agree with a certain amount of stability, maybe it is time for term limits, at least in the House, which is supposed to be the most in touch branch.."supposed" the operative word.
Now..
Let it fly...
heh.

Wise words from a Military Man Jun. 26th, 2008 @ 09:30 pm
In the councils of government, we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the military-industrial complex. The potential for the disastrous rise of misplaced power exists and will persist. We must never let the weight of this combination endanger our liberties or democratic processes. We should take nothing for granted. Only an alert and knowledgeable citizenry can compel the proper meshing of the huge industrial and military machinery of defense with our peaceful methods and goals, so that security and liberty may prosper together.

"He is a very thoughtful thinker..."
Rep Marsha Blackburn on MSNBC re: McCain

Heh. As opposed to a thoughtless thinker? I guess this is another ruse designed to separate McSame from McBush. Where do they find these idiots?
But I am starting to realize that my natural unease of anyone successful within the political spectrum, no matter what side/party/platform they represent, are inherently a product of said system and therefore still diseased to the core. I have been a hesitant Obama supporter as this cycle has progressed. He seemed to me to be a repudiation of the status quo version of government. His message was affirmative and I am a fan of his oration style.
But..
Then the AIPAC speech..
Then his FISA stance...
Then his comments on the gun control ruling...
Now I realize in order to change the rules of a game, with the intent of winning, you still have to follow the hard and fast rules, while slowly shifting the style of play, but I am getting a sense of unease from the Junior Senator. Is he playing to the center to win, with the intention of remaining true to his beginning agenda or is the system molding him into yet another empty suit to be filled by others?
We shall see.

Obama 08?

The only checks and balances left in the system are check books and account balances.

The War profiteers and Terrorists are the same..they both kill innocent people in the name of profits/prophets.

» Catching up w/ no temporal center...everything is ASKEW!!
Wacky May has melted into hot n sticky June, and the summer looks kinda bleak. I feel like my life has been shot from a cannon, but the trajectory is curving slowly downward. Getting a serious case of "what to do now"-z.
Filming for the I Love You Phillip Morris was much like filming for any movie. LOTS of waiting around in a tiny trailer. Lunch buffet. Waved off by hair and make up (she looked at me whilst chatting on her cell, shrugged at my shaved scalp and brown skin, then shook her head and waved me away..I am now 0 for 2 on hair and make up!), outfitted in my prison garb while a tiny dog bit at me and the edges of my garb, then back to the trailer. More waiting. The shoot was interesting. Being asked to faux masturbate on command is pretty disconcerting. Ewan McGregor shook my hand before and after the shoot..nice guy. Jim Carrey was pleasant, but not as personable. The directors gave me an applause call from the cast for repeated long takes of creepy fake wanking. Then buh-bye. Done with ya. Now the long wait for my pay begins..which sucks, because I could really use the money right now!
The Arkansas run cost me money, because I treated it like a week long BBQ trek. Totally worth it, though. I put some pics up on the Photo Bucket site..feel free to peruse the pics and albums. I need to link those to the website, since I will never get around to actually designing a pics page. I really need to just hire a web guru..or maybe a friend/fan will miraculously donate time...doubtful. The car is not doing well, and I got 3 tickets for illegal car shit while running around trying to make the car legal. Radiator is leaking..A/C is out.
I really need that money!
Three shifts starting tonight at Vic's should help. Plus I have a show Saturday at Sidney's..Dave gives me the door on that one. More on that later.

» At least it ain't boring...life, that is..
A funny discussion with a buddy at the bar last night involved the concept of "mid-life crisis". Now, first off, unless there are major advancements in the health care system, I have probably passed the "mid" part. The biggest difference, though, is that I think people like us...those who are actually living and pursuing and chasing the brass ring, don't really have the same sort of "I-didn't-live-my-life-gotta-bust-out-of-the-grind" style of male mental menopause. Ours is more of a realization that living and acting young doesn't slow the inexorable decline of the meat machine that the mind drives. Peter pans whose voices are cracking and chins sprouting whiskers. I have frozen my mental age image at 27-30. That will not change. My curiosity and love of experience is NOT frozen. But damn...getting out of bed after a long night!
Fucking meat. Damn gravity.
Come on science!!!

» Ruination of Youth!
Some years ago, when House of Blues was new to the Decatur street area, much of the neighborhood still had many of the, shall we say, unsavory aspects of its earlier days. After sound check one day, a manager of the club was walking Bo Diddley to his hotel room, when they happened to pass a strip club..doors wide open and stage quite visible to any passers-by. Bo walked into the club, right up to the stage, shook his head and stormed out. Once reaching the street, he muttered "Ruination of youth." The manager didn't hear him well, so he asked what Bo said. "Ruination of youth." he replied, "Little children and women can see that garbage. Ruination of youth." The manager replied "You sure it wasn't that syncopated beat of yours Bo?" Bo stared at him for a second before busting out in laughter.
Rest in peace.

» Happy Spamday.
That's what they should rename Sunday. Spamday. Seems like everyone with a non-workplacefiltered computer zips off crazy puzzles or chain mails or cute pictures of a walrus nursing a ferret that was orphaned in a freak terrorist attack against fuzzy wuzzy mammals.
Happy Spamday. And if you don't send this out to the next 1,000 people on your e-mail list and last will and testament, your feet will smell of 2 week old Parmesan cheese so strongly that you will only ever be able to eat and live in a shitty Italian diner...like Olive Garden.

» Today is yesterday's tomorrow.
There is something to be said for the nap. Siesta. Mid-day slumber. Some cultures even allow for the nap within the business structure of the day. Try to mail a letter between 1 and 3 in Mexico. Good luck.
I think that is one of the many aspects of my job that I truly love. Be it in some hotel room or condo on the road, or right here smack dab in the middle of a hot NOLA afternoon, I rarely miss my little re-boot. It doesn't even have to be long or deep...sometimes a mere 30 minutes of closed eye reverie does the trick perfectly. In fact, too long down actually ruins the restorative nature and intent of the act. Nap does not equal sleep, per se. That's like equating masturbation to hours of nasty, sweaty sex.
Oh well...time to mastu...umm....
nap.
heh.

Jazzfest was a hot, sunburned blast this weekend. Highlights (for me..)
The Roots covering Dylan. Steel Pulse. Cajun Duck Po Boy. Friends (esp. Tara and Paula!), Keb Mo. Derek Trucks. Santana. Pheasant Gumbo.
Lots of shows coming up..trying to catch up on all web and such in order to just concentrate on the act. New shit forming..looking forward to adding stuff to the routine this month..plenty of opportunities. Orange Beach this week! Damn! Paid to perform near the beach. Doesn't suck.
