    mac laptop questions
i know that this will totally get some of you guys super excited to give advice, which is great, because that is what i seek--i'm thinking about getting a mac laptop and need to know from you experienced mac owners and laptop owners what i should look for... mac book vs. mac book pro, what apps i should get on it, speeds, etc... you know, what is necessary vs what is overboard, etc... and keep in mind that i'm at least a little familiar with mac (dual g4 from college still runnin'!). alright, thanks in advance.

    an attempt to master...
    ...Villanova University!

Hi kiddies... it's been a long time since I posted anything here, but thought I'd share some decent sized news: I got accepted to Villanova's Graduate of History program. My first class begins at the start of June and I'm pretty excited. Looking forward to it.

Alright, hope all's well with everyone out there.

(Oh, and in even more exciting news, my little brother should be returning from his 15 months in Iraq pretty soon. Hip hop horray!)

    hockey legends
so today i met bernie parent and bob kelly. that may not mean a great deal to many of you, but if you are a fan of hockey history, not just a particular team, you'll know them. they are (and granted this is local team-particular) flyers legends. members of the back-to-back stanley cup winning teams in the mid-70s, kelly was a member of the 'broad street bullies' and parent backstopped the team with great success. well, today i met them and it was really pretty cool.

a lot older, and in kelly's case, a bit rotund around the waist, they were so nice. when asked for a picture, parent looks at his watch and asks if i can wait about five minutes... they don't take pictures before 1 o'clock. kelly responds to this by slapping parent in the head. then they chuckle. i couldn't imagine the stories and the lifestyle these guys must have had during the countless hours in the lockers, on the ice, and on the busses between cities. well, needless to say, they were a lot of fun and i've got one more member of my hall of fame puck collection (parent, '84).... and holy shit you should've seen the size of those stanley cup rings!

and for you caps fans out there, kelly played two seasons with them before calling it quits. apparently the coach back then was a jackass.

haven't written in a long while and thought i'd 'geek out' about my hockey love... playoffs are coming up!

so, seriously, the best part of the upcoming "clerks II" release is in the promo when silent bob starts the same "psyche--goodbye horses" song on his boombox when my own itunes does... creepy, but really funny... dreams of buffalo bill dance. actually, really creepy considering the jason mewes dance.... end.

woah!... i just finished watching a segment of leno (thursday night)... and holy shit i found matty t's doppelganger...

welll, if by 'doppelganger' i mean not a physical representation, but more of a character, personality, and hobbyist representation...

(and don't take offense at this if you're reading or pointed towards this post!)...

but you and jesse james have got to be seperated at birth fraternal twins (with an age difference).

wishing you the best and i hope all's well.

sirius has brought me many great old songs and bands that one normally doesn't hear on the radio, as well as many new things earlier than conventional radio/mags catch on...

    and here's another one:

"connecticut's for fu*king" by jesus h. christ and the four hornsmen of the apocalypse...

fun, cheeky pop/(nsfw)/rock... easily found on itunes.

    enjoy.

and to follow suit with some who have written more than usual, or at least promised to (which is what i'm going to do for now), i'm making changes in my life that will hopefully be for the better... i'm 8 months sans cigarettes, and now i'm working on my alcohol intake... hope my liver thanks me in the end.

oh yeah, and does anyone else really want to slaughter the creator of those "dropped my calls" commercials (where the audio cuts out)... horrible!!!

    it's over.

10 months of watching games, going to games, scouring the papers and the standings and the statistics... done.

while i'm not pleased with the outcome, i'm really pleased with this final series. subtracting the open-net goal from tonight's game 7, there were 5 games decided by one goal, and then two blowout games (one per team).

as always, the contest for the stanley cup was formidable--guys with barely-cleared broken necks, guys avoiding medical discharge for concussion, etc.--and it was tough. i love the final, with the two teams--enemies just moments before--shaking hands and sharing their admiration for one another.

good game, good year, and hopefully next year will be even better...

PS---for those hockey fans out there--did you know that after this past year's lockout, people sued & petitioned the stanley cup trust for the right to make the cup a challenge cup again (as it was pre-NHL), and they have allowed it. so, if there should be a lockout again, the cup will be awarded to a non-nhl team ("the best team in canada") and they will be engraved on the cup and all... crazy, but cool. since the nhl started, only twice has there been no winner (1919--spanish flu/2005--strike)... now the nhl doesn't "own" the cup anymore, so someone else can win... i like this. like back before/just-after the turn of the century....

    the end.

after the unfortunate events behind the net that resulted in the oilers blowing game 1, i'm not surprised they have started their 3rd tier netminder in raleigh for this evenings contest...
best wishes and good luck! go oilers!

    accident prone
like glynn with his self-induced electro shock, i am now also victim to profession-related injury... chisel in hand. wasn't as bad as it could have been, but two hours in the hospital--and a measly two stitches later--and i'm now gauzy mcgauze on my hand. ouch.

memorable work or home-repair related "accidents" to date: crush foot with giant stone; fall off roof; graze finger with shot nail from nail gun; chisel into palm...

    i need a new job/hobby.

and incidentally, sarah happens to think that "accident prone" would make a good band name. i agreed, as long as their backstory included 3 or 4 previous drummers. :)

so it's wednesday evening, and all i want to do is get off the road and back to my home...

instead i have to sit behind all of the driving gawkers, gawking their mouths at the hundreds of cops driving around town, all awaiting the pres's arrival to p'town...

yeah, esp for anne/brendan, Bush is here again in pottstown, this time to tour the nuke plant and discuss how awesome nuke plants are...

    here's an article:

    I. this weekend was a blast! wonderful to see people, catch up, and of course witness the union of two of our friends. had a great time talking to folks, and seeing everyone all dressed up. also saw the blue angels. and, excellent news, the dog didn't puke the entire ride home. yay!

II. advice request--as several of you already have, or are currently involved with, gaining acceptance to graduate studies programs, i would like to know what your overall feelings have been regarding the different processes: studying/testing, applying, writing essays, affording, and going to school while still working (p/t as opposed to most of our undergrad lives). thanks in advance!!

since i'm not allowed to talk much hockey at home, here's what i'm really happy about tonight.... although i really dislike the sabres for beating the flyers in round 1, and i dislike that they were able to win tonight--away at ottowa--i'm really happy that someone was finally able to put up some points on rookie goalie ryan miller.... SIX GOALS, CHUMP!...

other than that, not too much here; anne/brendan's place is rad, and they were the best hosts ever... nice food, bloody mary drinks each morning, great days out, saw washington irving's grave (he wrote 'the legend of sleepy hollow') and Samuel Gompers (pioneer of US socialism in the workplace), and i was in the town of sleepy hollow, great conversation...excellent time--thank you both very much!!

i made some wood forms and poured a new concrete step, leading from the porch into the kitchen, today... now, that'll probably be of interest to nobody (except maybe AWK who just got a place)... it's drying right now, until tomorrow when i take the form off. small, but cool projects, are the fun part of homeownership i've learned. i took off the aluminum awning this morning, and took it to the scrap yard... there's a skill they don't teach at W&M... how to negotiate a scrap metal yard... also, i've apparently taught myself how to (not die) be an electrician... changed out all the old wires and replaced the old/reconfigured the old with new stuff and new patterns/paths.

work is going well. it's warming up and i have much more knowledge and therefore much more responsibility than before. now if i could only get more money too....

the cats are great, the dog is progressing, and my snake still will not eat...

that's about all in my life right now...

happy cinco de mayo.... i'm going back to my margarita chasers (molsen)...
