Trick Terminology
I heard a new one today -- "tail date" -- which is purportedly a Palm Springs thang. I think "bootie call" is more for for str8s. I think "trick" is a convenient word for "not a date" or "hookup", regardless of whether the trick is single or not. I believe in de-stigmatizing words, especially those which have been used against the gay world. Trick trick trick trick trick trick trick. And no, I'm not buy-sexual. I mean trick solely in the casual sex way.

'Tail Date'? Sounds reasonable enough to me.

It's interesting to see how our language is constantly evolving I just call it "having a good time with a new acquaintance."

I hate the term fuck-buddy... seems as if I'm objectifying the other person to nothing more than a tool to get me off. If that's what it is then there certainly CAN be a nicer way to say it.

However... I still DO get a laugh at Halloween when the kids yell "Trick or Treat" and my usual nonverbal response is "come back in twenty years and we'll talk then!"

I was the person responsible for enlightening Joe on this new term. Actually, it's borrowed from my friend Tony, a new Memphian that was a Palm Springs transplant..

You could always come up with a term of your own. When people hear you use it, and it's obvious enough, they'll think that it must be used by tons of people. Wait to see how long it takes for you to hear someone else use it, like "Yeah, I had a poke-a-date last night" or something

That sounds very "Stake It UK!" to me. I'm loving it. I'm going to use poke-a-date from now on. But I think I'll transform it to Pokédate, in deference to the Japanese.

Only if tail dating makes you a TailDate Toreador? Bad one, I know.

In all seriousness I define the word "date" very strictly so in my book, anyone more than 99 miles away is automatically a fuckbuddy. I disdain the LDR phenomenon as an ignoble attempt to feign couplehood and avoid the stigma of not being partnered in this sometimes self-loathing gay community. Now that I think about it, maybe I should make that 25 miles.
