Daddy's Little Girl is Growing Up
I don't want to open up a can of worms every time a boy gawks at my daughter's figure (see the arrest of the boy who attacked her last year, which I blogged at Haydennet.com/blog), but I also don't want to dismiss my daughter's sincerity in her modesty. I know she does not emphasize her figure with clothes because she gets a lot of unwanted attention and she is buxom for a 12 year old. This is something that she will have to get used to and allow herself to be empowered by, perhaps, in the years to come. On the other hand, no individual should be touching her anywhere against her wishes and it is unclear to me if that actually happened in her science class yesterday and to what extent, but she has detention today. I understand the chaos in her science class has given the kids a lack of respect for the new teacher who is trying to harness control, but this new teacher may not be aware of how Alexandra specifically was the target of sexual harassment and how it was dealt with.
Indeed, even *I* have had to forego many of the regular kisses hello, goodbye and good night that I was used to with Daddy's Little Girl out of respect for her "space". Making sure SHE has optimal privacy has caused me to re-arrange the house to suit her, although within reason, as she does have a tendency to be a prima donna. I miss having the little girl to hold on the couch in that nurturing way, albeit quite different than being in the arms of a man. That being said, once in a while she gravitates towards me and enjoys spending time very close to me, which makes me realize that this distance is just a phase.
