I can't sleep, and this is practically the only thing on other than paid commercials, plus, as frustrating, irritating, and riddiculous* as this movie is, I like watching Vin Diesel.

*I really hate it when all the plucky adventurers that join up with Our (anti)Hero die. It use to happen on Dr. Who all the time (possibly still does. I am behind on fannish viewing). It's about as problematic as when everyone survives unscathed.

Yesterday I left work a little early and ended up falling asleep on the couch quite early.

Today is the fall edition of the NE Reptile Expo. Expect pictures later.

It should be ridiculously easy to make scale lampshade frames out of metal wire, except for the part where I don't actually know how to make metal stick together without a forge (which I don't have and won't be getting anytime soon).

When I look up soldering, what I find is circuit-board making tutorials, and I am under the impression that welding requires more expensive (and dangerous) equipment than I want to invest in at this point (see above re: forge).

I suppose there's always epoxy, but that is so very messy.

So, people who are skilled at metal working, is there a reasonably easy, inexpensive method for something like this?

by Richard A. and Elizabeth G. Lyons

The first part introduces the various kinds of cuts and joins used in furniture making and is very informative (now I know the difference between a rabbet and a dado!) and the rest of the book gives plans and assembly instructions for a variety of furniture pieces. I only wish a bit of time had been spent on how one actually makes the various joints (I know grooves, dados, and rabbets are often made with table saws, but how does one cut a mortise?).

Totally worth the wait. Bonus: free video of Neil reading the entire book, chapter by chapter, on tour.

Except for the time-travel gimmick being well, gimmicky, and the fact that the show is breaking up Sam and Dean *again*, the show is starting to win points with me this week. Huh.

ETA: And that was *before* Agent Skinner showed up.

Here's the thing, I still don't trust this show, but the writers (while being complete idiots in some regards) are clearly working on adding depth and layering (not to mention fan-service) to the story and the characters. (And Mitch is still *hot*.)

ETA: So this was just an exposition-ode and a run up for next week.

I came home early, took a nap, and threw up. Then N and I pulled a couple of cabinets out of the shed for K, and N drove them out to K's.

In a surprising burst of energy, I have just made two tiny pillow covers and stuffed them with a bit of fiberfill (eventually I'll make proper pillow forms for them).

My accomplishment, of which I am inordinately proud. )

Possibly the most biologically and politically confused movie ever produced. The flight scenes were fun, but unless you are a rabid Jerry Seinfeld fan, it's probably worth avoiding this. (I watched it On-Demand.)

I went almost straight home -- stopped to pick up a couple of things at the store -- and by the time I got home, I had a starter migraine and so went right to bed.

This morning I did some dishes and N helped me bury the hedgehog: Sputnik had been getting frailer over the last couple of months and died in his sleep. Two years with me was a pretty good run for an adult-adopted hedgie who started showing his age last October when he developed cataracts.

Tonight I'm looking forward to going through the box of action figures Nonie sent me as candidates for my Shadow Unit diorama. Relative heights is definitely going to be an issue. Chaz is canonically 6'4", Brady 6'+,  Reyes shorter than Faulker, Hafs tall and thin (from Worth's pov, so presumably taller than Worth), Frost short and plump, and Lau by implication the shortest of the team (although probably not shorter than Frost). Not sure off the top of my head where Todd stands.

I slept most of Saturday, which helped with doing the Walk Against Cancer on Sunday, but I am still wiped out and will probably come straight home from work today.

I took the little dog with me to the Walk and he met a bunch of other dogs (every thing from a daschund puppy to an adult Leonberger!) and did quite well.

It rained all weekend (although we had a break while we were Walking) and is still raining now. I *so* don't want to leave my house.

After watching the season premier (on the horrendous, out-of-synch, glitchy cwtv feed) and last night's show, I am forced to the conclusion that Kripke & Co, are deliberately alienating their female viewers to get rid of the girl cooties.

I want to go home and play with my dolls: I can't tell you how dirty this makes me feel. It's practically a knee-jerk reaction to having adults trying to foist them off on me (or me off on them) when I was growing up.

But now that I'm a grown-up and can choose to play with them, I find I enjoy it.

Can we say "emotionally complex response"?

I thought so.
