Cookie Fail!!!
oh goodness -

i thought i'd take a nice break from the day's activities to bake some chocolate chip cookies - i used the recipe on the back of the baking soda box and thought everything went fine. the cookie batter seemed a bit softer than usual but i didn't think much of it...

turns out, i used 1 and 1/4 less flour than i should have! ahhh. so much cookies were basically a 1:1:1 ratio of flour to sugar to butter. they are flatter than pancakes! they kind of look like those crisp florentine cookies except they are not. hah. oh well.

eee! Martha and Jane Goodall!
So today some of my co-workers and I were in the guest audience of the Martha Stewart Show! And we totally made it on the camera a bunch of times.

Jezebel has posted a video of when Jane and Martha make lovely monkey greetings! And you can totally see me and my co-workers Ben and Dani in the audience in awe of the wonder that is Jane Goodall!

:( sick!
ahh. i have been since saturday night - at first it was a sore throat but now its coughing and stuffiness and a cloudy head. saturday night marc and i were kissing and then i was all hold up!! sore throat! i think the reason why im really sick is because i basically put in a full work day on Sunday - i had to be on campus at 9am for an admissions event and then stayed for steel drum rehearsal til 5. yesterday i was a mess at work but wanted to stay for class...and today i took work off and didn't go to class and i'm mad that i couldn't get it together and pushed myself too much on Sunday.

Marc and I have begun to watch the first season of Mad Men and its amazingggggg. So smart and unpredictable. Sexism/Racism/Classism is so pervasive and I can't imagine what it would have been like to live during that time. Also - Joan's wardrode and hair? want!!

On Thursday we are going to Martha!!! with Jane Goodall! yey!!! I hope there will be chimps on the show!
Thursday night I want to attend this mini conference at NYU called Clytemnestra: Women and Power from Aeschylus to Martha Graham. It looks amazing.

pre-cleaning procrastination post
Slept in this morning and then ate waffles and drank a second batch of [info]thinkbettersick's yum yum coffee! I then read a few more chapters of Eclipse, the third book in the Twilight series by Stephanie Meyers. I really enjoy her books but sometimes the Mormon stuff creeps in and it freaks me out. Like Edward's unwillingness to make her a vampire until she marries him (erhm....virginity analogy?) or the fact that whenever they talk about marriage there is a comment about how they will be married not just for life, but for eternity. wev. these books are amazing!

So now i have to get going on some cleaning and organization. School starts on Sept. 2nd and I want to be able to throw myself into my school work fully and not be worried that things are messy! Also! My H*on girls are coming to visit so i want my place to be spic and span! Or, relatively close to that. I went to Duane Reade and picked up a swiffer duster thing and some of that yummy smelling natural cleaner I used at Jen's house the other day. I have also been reading Fly Lady more again and feel inspired. Marc gave me one of his desks, that i think will encourage me to work in my office more. Right now my current desk has a bunch of toiletries and what not on it because our bathroom doesn't have an outlet and thus i can't blow dry my hair and stuff there which is impractical and annoying. So now i can have a place for that and a place to study. The one thing about my room that i'm concerned about is the radiator. It hissed all winter long and it drove me nuts. I wish i could just disconnect it, as the heating in my apartment is ridiculous and we spent the whole winter with every window wide open. i don't think it would hurt to have no heat source in that room.

Also, I want to hang things on our walls...they are bare right now as the walls are plaster and sort of a pain to deal with! But we have a great catcher in the rye poster and a badlands (in spanish - malas tierras) poster that would look awesome and match the livingroom color wise. since we are living here for another year i don't mind throwing some $$ towards paint for our bedroom (we wanted it to be a sagey green) or my office. i also got some picture frames on sale at DR for $1.99 each and still have a bunch of frames from ikea that need pictures in them!

anyway! enough rambling. i need to get to work!

swallow my pride
I sadly did not attend any pride-related events this weekend. there was a party i wanted to go to on saturday called choice c*nts but no one was around and the one person who i knew was definitely going never got back to me about meeting up. *shrugs* i'm disappointed but i think i've come to accept that?

sunday my brother alex graduated from high school, and marc and i went to the party hosted by my father and stepmom. they let him and a bunch of his under 21 friends play beer pong in the backyard and i was pretty horrified. i'm not a stickler for kids under 21 drinking, but i think it's different when it's other people's kids.

hades and boo boo are growing and they are super cute! they are getting all cuddly now!

i'm getting really excited and also nervous about our trip to portland. my astrologyzone.com horoscope for july says: "Your sixth sense will be operating at an all time high on the full moon, July 18...This full moon weekend may find you a little depleted so give yourself all the time you need for rest and restoration. Beg off any strenuous projects, and if traveling, make it as easy a trip as possible...Don't be tempted to do strenuous sports or endless sightseeing in a distant city - at the full moon June 18 you'll need rest." this is when we're traveling...across the country! ah! he and i really need to work on creating a schedule of who/where/when we are staying with our different friends out there. i think not knowing where we are staying is the only thing that will really bother me. i'm hoping we can just go with the flow the rest of the time.

Also, "Attached readers should not let money come in the way of love at the start of the month. You will be concerned about cash flow and money near July 10, but as said, it will get better after that. Two days when almost miraculous news about money will occur are July 14 and 22, days you should circle in gold on your calendar!" I owe Marc money for our my plane ticket and other household expenses. I want to pay him back asap but I definitely am concerned about money right now - i've paid off some big ticket expenses like my drum and drum accessories and credit cards and now my cell phone is broken and no longer under warranty.

My summer courses "end" next week, though I have a 15page financial analysis paper due the following week. I also have a gig in New Haven next Friday! oh goodness!

quickity quick!
i have to start writing a paper tonight that's why i'm posting now, giving in to that old procrastination while my new compy updates microsoft word.

slept in today which was wondrous, and still made it to steel band rehearsal early - though i couldn't practice because haas was rehearsing and also had to give a lesson, so i wrote in my paper journal, ate my bagel and read body + soul magazine.

after steel band i met up with Isabella who is visiting right now after living in Morocco for a while, and Julian and Phoebe at Mud cafe. had some lunch and caught up. also got to meet Bella's new boyfriend. on our way to union square to get on the subway i crossed paths with James Kelly which was random and awkward. hah. i shouldn't be so friendly all the time and call out people's name who i barely know any longer (we went to hs and nyu together, though we weren't ever friends despite sitting next to each other all the time cos of the last name thing). found out that Bella fell off a camel and now can't see out of her left eye completely and also lost vision in her right eye as well and is visiting to see a neurologist (mitten's dad).

my paper is going to be about explaining US healthcare system (inc. hospitals) to a foreigner of my choosing. we are supposed to learn about another country's healthcare system though there is no structure in place in this class to do that except for research on our own. blah. will probably do france or italy.

life can't be explained thoroughly online any longer.
