    I did it! WOOOOOOOOOHOO!
Finished the triathlon. 0.75K Swim, 20K Bike, 5K Run. Whew!

Will post pics when I have the brainpower to figure out the CD thingie.

    Gonna go collapse now.

    Cat Logic
Usually, by the time I get up, Hobbes is already yowling at me to come and FEED HER, ALREADY! But today I actually got out of bed and went to the kitchen to feed her right away. I came back to a very confused cat, but I thought she'd go and eat.

    Not so much.

She started meowing at me to feed her. So I followed her back to the kitchen, so that she'd see that she had food.

    Feed me! Feed me!

Pointed her face into the bowl so that she could SEE that she had food.

    Feed me! Feed me!

Finally I gave up. Scooped a couple more kibbles up, and dumped them on top of the food that was already in the bowl. So finally ...

    Grandmommie, Triathlon, etc
It's so hard, sometimes, to deal with Grandmommie. She's starting to slip, though of course she'd deny it if I brought it up. But she left the burner on (it's electric, so it's not that big a deal, but still).

It's sad, seeing the undeniable evidence that she's losing it. Sometimes she'll seem as sharp as ever, and other times it's like dealing with a six-year-old.

In better news, I did 3 1/2 miles alternately jogging and walking. I've got just under a month until the triathlon, and though the distance is good, I'd like be doing more jogging and less walking (I'm currently walking 50 steps and jogging 10).

In annoying news, my little 128 MP3 player seems to have bitten the dust. Oh, well. I had it for over 2 years and it cost about 30 bucks, so I can't say I didn't get my money's worth. :p I just wish it had held out until after the triathlon.

I was thinking of doing some more work on the Jecine outline, but I'm wiped. Gee, I wonder why? ;)

Hey, everybody, could you send your good thoughts and/or prayers to my 'Grandma Mary'? I just got a call from her granddaughter that she was taken away in an ambulance.

    Thanks.

    computer stuff
I was bitching to my dad about my laptop, so he took it to have his guy look at it, and now it's spiffed up and running XP. It's got a new ethernet card, since the dongle on the bad one went bad.

    But ...

Now the floppy drive on my desktop has just died. Since it's an old (pre-usb) machine, this could prove problematic. Especially since my laptop just kind of stares at my Alphasmart.

(I need to dig out the Alphasmart disk and manual. I'm sure there's a way.)

There's nothing left in the desktop that I absolutely can't afford to lose. And I suppose if I really want to, I can get the contents of the hard drive sucked out and burned to disk. But dammit ... it's a lot more comfy machine when I have to do lots of typing.

Either way, I definitely want to check into the new version of WP, now that the laptop might actually be able to support it.

(But gorammit, I didn't need yet another delay in Jecine, right now.)

    & random
There's just something nice about making toast from bread you've baked yourself.

Also, filk about everybody's least favorite word-processing program. I heard it on Doctor Demento ... close to 15 years ago, and (living in my happy WordPerfect 5.1 bubble) didn't understand it. But now I know ... the true horror ...

    blah
So it wasn't (exactly) groundhog day. I finish one thing, something else sneaks up and bites me in the butt.

After neglecting my apartment to finish the three manuscripts, I figured I could slowly clean the place up within a month. But instead, the termite guy company called and said they needed to do their inspection, and Grandmommie said it had to be done NOW because she's too embarrassed to let me in.

(Also, school started. And she's not happy that I didn't take any 'real' classes this semester.)

So yeah. Not much been done. But I've got a plan; if I write-up ten scenes a day, five days a week (not Tuesday or Thursday, because I've got class until almost 10), then sooner or later, it'll be done. Take a few weeks, but that's better than nothing.

    Migraine yesterday didn't help.

    Initial Read-Through
After reading through the first draft of Jecine, I really like it. It's more complicated than I remember, and there are a lot more threads that either got dropped or started halfway through that I need to weave into the whole thing better.

But really, it's a fun book. And funny (at least to me) in places.

Also? When the movie gets made, I so want Summer Glau to play Jecine.

Next step: breaking the thing down into its component parts and figuring out what needs to be fixed.

So this starts the clock running on my next revision: the deadline for having the Jecine story ready to go is July 16th.
