As I noted yesterday, Chase is a terrible influence. He is an enabler.

How I see it

July 24th, 2008 (04:47 pm)

When Flickr started hosting video too, the first thing I thought of was something that was essentially a still picture (subject not moving) that existed for 3-10 seconds. Or like in La Jetée, when all of a sudden it’s not a still image you’re seeing. That’s pretentious. Anyway, we have a thing that can take video now, so you will have to deal with my excitement.

Here we go—

  • 18:41 Okay, the collected short stories of Hemingway is not a small book. How do I keep misplacing it? #
  • 18:54 Okay seriously. Is there a clear and logical explanation/walk-through of classifying folktales? AT, ATU, whatev. Or a list of common types? #
  • 19:49 @jemale—Thanks. That's all I could find too. You'd think, with internet magic, there would be an interactive program. #
  • 19:51 @jemale—I was vainly wishing for something like what the Library of Congress has tinyurl.com/55djez which isn't much more, but still. #
  • 20:21 Okay, here is where we see if I totally screwed up the site redesign or not. #
  • 20:58 So, the new site is up, but now my Wordpress won't work. Assballs. #
  • 21:28 Aha, imagine—a FAQ that actually, clearly, solves and explains a problem. #
  • 21:57 And with that, my new portfolio site is pretty much up (minus a couple things). From folkart to constructivist. #
  • 21:58 Retro-constructivism. Neo-retro-constructivism, if you're going to be picky. Or whatever. I barely went to school. #
  • 10:26 Okay world, so apparently you think dudes who wear 2XL tees don't want foppish, all over prints? You are making this difficult. #
  • 10:38 @Frenden—Where are they from? Design By Humans has good sizes, but I'm having trouble finding other places. #
  • 11:35 Huh. The airbrushed shirt style now tends towards hip-hop, not wolves. #
  • 12:38 @LibbyBulloff—I vote not. Never let what you do for work touch what you are. #
  • 13:23 @Iron_Spike—Holy shit, that is too rad. Now you can have tiny armies of your own and rule them as a God. That's your favourite thing! #
  • 15:07 @strangehours—When they are long enough to be pinned aside, but short enough for forhead fringe, they're a good thing to have. #

Rebirth

July 23rd, 2008 (03:45 pm)

I’ve up and redesigned my portfolio site. It’s in a style that I like, but other people might hate. Eh. My business cards are now obsolete, but really the stylings I had before are, like, a precursor to the style there now, y’know—art historically (faintly, I’m sure, but I don’t mind). Anyway, if you see something broken or stupid, let me know.

Below is a screenshot of the opening page. I likes it.

This is what the main page looks like

There’s more tinkering to be done (the “Shop” button does nothing), but pretty much there it is.

They only bothered because the Portland Metro Area is mostly suburbs

July 23rd, 2008 (12:05 pm)

For some reason, there is now “Street View” of the Forest Grove/Cornelius area on Google maps. Here is a view of our “Downtown”.  It is a block square, pretty much.  If you look behind you, you may find one of our three (or four) bars and a lotto place. We also have two wine shops where people with these mythical things called “A Living Wage” go to booze it up.

Here is a screen grab:

Purely for the process

rocking to: MGMT - Of Moons, Birds & Monsters

I am one of those horrible people who leaves hair on the shower wall.  Lately, I sort of started arranging it, like in a wreath or frame shape.  My idea was that there were some interesting arabesque shapes happening there and maybe I’d take a picture of it and extract the patterns.  So today I finally got around to doing that.  Below is a mirrored image, colour-altered, of a month’s worth of hair on my shower wall.

It's a neat kind of gross

Then, since it’s my day off and I’ve nothing better to do with my morning besides swear at a sewing project, I started digitally painting on the image, and just fucking around.

I try to waste my time ridiculously

Jesus, what a waste of time. But hey! Hair was the texture and that is kind of rad.

They've nothing to do with anything

July 20th, 2008 (08:53 pm)

I went on a walk today, getting ideas for a possible typology.  I ended up with some pictures that have nothing to do with the actual project.  Directly, anyway.

I don't think they light up

Postponed plans

There’s more at the set, of course.

I just got back from a ridiculous two hour walk, expect pictures

My twitter is not dumping into my LJ, which is a bummer, because you are missing out on absolutely nothing interesting.  Here are highlights though!

  • A customer I emailed at work recognised me from the Internet
  • It has been confirmed that I have stupidly long arms, longer than co-workers who are taller than me.
  • Chase's thought: The better our Batman movies, the worse our state of politics.
  • Robots happen.
