The liver, spleen and mass on her spleen came back benign, no cancer there.
Her liver biopsy DID show that she had Chronic Liver Inflammatory Disease, aka Cirrosis - that can hopefully be controlled by medication. I don't think its the same kind of Cirrosis that humans get. At least I hope not. She doesn't drink, as far as I know.
She ate all her food for the third time this morning, so she appears to be eating enough to stay healthy, and her poo is normal now, no longer diarrhea or other nastiness.
She did have an issue with fluid building up in her abdomen after the surgery, especially last Tuesday/Wednesday, but she is on dieuretics now and the fluid seems to be gone, she looks normal again, not all blown up like a water balloon.
So - outlook is good, and she seems OK for the moment!

Everything is fine - I just took this pic just before I dropped her off for her surgery. She didn't LOOK sick. :) After I got the thyroid pills for her she looks great! Her old scaly skin sloughed off and healthy new pink skin came in, along with a thick double coat of fur! A few weeks of skin everywhere was worth it. Needed to vacuum every day and cover the sofa and bed to keep the stuff off the furniture for the most part.
Now the flaking is pretty much over - just the occasional remnant that got stuck in that thick fur. She also lost like 4 lbs in a month or so, still about 5 lbs heavy, but we can lose that in another few months, then I'll try and keep her at 25 lbs.
Still have to get her teeth done, and that abcess drained and cleared up, but assuming everything goes well, she should be a perfectly healthy pup within a month or two!
I should be able to pick her up friday sometime.

They said they would biopsy the liver at the same time to make absolutely sure nothing was wrong with it, as they think the gall bladder issue is causing the liver dysfunction.
They will also check the spleen and the object, removing the mass and part or all of the spleen if it was actually involved - but leaving it alone if the mass wasn't actually messing with it.
They will also check her other organs and check to be sure everything is healthy and there are no other problems.
This is scheduled for Tuesday - with a pre-surgery visit tomorrow for prelim bloodwork and such.
I have gotten her to eat by softening her food with milk or yougurt and nuking it for 15 sec - I think hard food hurts her tooth.
The abcessed tooth will have to wait 4-6 weeks until she heals from this surgery before she can be put under again to deal with the tooth. Poor puppy. But I don't mind being her chef for a bit.
All of the doctors seem to be very hopeful that the mass is benign and the gall bladder is the true issue here, so once the surgery is over she should be fine for another 6-10 years.
Let's hope they are right!
I want to thank everyone for their good hopes and messages, it means a lot. Maggie promises to bark one less times than normal the next time she sees you. :)
He ALSO found that her gall bladder is huge, and she most likely has a (sort of) common problem with Cocker Spaniels and Shelties where the gall bladder produces very thick mucousy bile, like jello, when it is supposed to be thin and watery. This usually happens when the gall bladder is damaged and/or infected. There are no effective medical treatments for this, and if left untreated it will cause pain and eventually cause the gall bladder to rupture, which poses a huge risk to the dog at that point.
He said it was 100% involved and very large, likely to the point of pain already, but we had a couple of weeks or more before there was any real risk of a rupture.
So, we have a pretty bad list of things that are wrong:
Thyroid - on meds to control
Cancer(?) - remove spleen and test
Gall bladder - remove
Infected tooth - have dental surgery done a while after the gall bladder/spleen surgery.
The dangers now are the decreased liver function and gall bladder, the tumor could metastasize at any time if it is malignant. She isn't eating. When I do get her to eat, it is rice and a Wendy's burger (just the meat). Every time she eats, it causes the gall bladder to make more jello and get a little bigger.
The vet will call me tomorrow and talk about options and schedule surgery if that is the best option.
Maggie hasn't eaten since Friday morning, she actually backs away from her food. She is hungry, as she will eat her treats and if I put her food on the floor she will eat it, unless I put a lot - then she backs away from it.
The X-ray showed what might be something in her intestines, but the vet wanted a 2nd opinion before they have her in to do sonogram on her. They will x-ray her again in a few days and see if the shadow moves before trying the sonogram.
2nd set of XRays will be another $175 or so. Worth it though. If they have to go in and investigate/remove the object, it will be 'considerably more'. *sigh*
Whatever. Gotta get Maggie healthy.
***********
Dr just called back about Maggie. Her liver is failing rapidly and her white blood cells are all 'young', meaning they are being killed off as soon as they are generated - not good. We need to get her into a specialist emergency room tonight if we want to save her.
And I feel terrible because I am worrying about money. If we can get her healthy and happy again with no long-term disabilities, I'll pay quite a lot.

| Virtue - Water people exhibit benevolence. These type people are charitable, have a kindly disposition and promote goodwill. They are concerned with the welfare of others. Where other people are concerned they are kind, generous and philanthropic. They seldom harbor hostility. They derive pleasure from doing good deeds. Core - They are cooperative, companionable, hospitable and socialable. They are true humanitarians and are concerned with the welfare of other people. They are called servants or servers because of their unselfishness and sincere devotion to the welfare of humanity. They unconditionally come to the aid of the sick and the unfortunate just as they would for one of their own family, and most often ask nothing in return. Nature - They have strong feelings and sensibilities. They tend to make decisions based on their emotions rather than by reason. Although they are emotional in nature, they do not outwardly express it. Their feelings are hurt easily but they tend to not let it show. Drives - They are deeply concerned about the welfare of their friends and family. They also care about what other people think and say about them. An insensitive remark from someone can hurt their feelings deeply, although they may not show it. They give of themselves and their material possessions freely to help a less-advantaged person gain confidence and stature. They will go all out where close friends or family is concerned. It is not easy to make friends with a them because they are skeptical and naturally shy. They will be generous and kind to a certain point, but when you gain their confidence you will have an all-weather friend who will stand by you through your struggles. Vice - They will suppress the truth by words, writing and conduct to do damage to another. This is not spite. This is their non-violent way of getting their revenge. Milder cases include stretching the truth a little, not exactly untrue but not the real truth. They are emotional people and tend to get carried away in the heat of a situation. These people are not prone to physical violence normally, but being of an emotional nature and having the tendency to let things build up inside them, they can become extremely abusive. |

I ordered this : Triple Multimedia Case without Doors on March 28.
Today I received this : Hyde Park Double Bookcase With Cabinet.
Freaking lovely.
It is F'ing huge and doesn't match anything. I have contacted the company to get them to come take it away and deliver what I ordered. I'm so mad at this company that I seriously doubt that I would ever order anything else from them, and may even cancel the existing order for fear that they will just mess it up again.

This is just a really bad cameraphone shot of the spot I cleared for Maggie. I measured 10" of snow at 6am this morning, and it looks like it has drifted in the corner of the yard against the building to about twice that. It's still snowing, but just barely, and very tiny flakes. This is going to be interesting. Monday morning I believe there will be quite a lot of problems trying to get to work, even with a 4wd. That's a lot of snow.

So I bought Eraserhead to complete my collection of David Lynch films. This is his first film, done in film school. This is the film that launched his career.
My god, those people are sick.
This was without a doubt the WORST MOVIE EVER MADE. Utter crap from beginning to end. The ending credits were the most welcome sight and the best part of the entire movie.
Long periods of wierd humming/buzzing noises and flashing lights, the main character walking through nasty alley after nasty alley, precious little dialogue, and what there was of it was extraneous somehow.
I wish I hadn't bought it, but worse, I wish I could not only get the hour back I spent watching it, but actively excise the very memory of it from my mind.
It was that bad.
If anyone wishes to verify this independently, go rent it.
Don't forget to have adequate quantities of schnapps and/or rum to help you forget this travesty of a gibbering idiot's viewpoint on life.
If I have less than 2 jars on hand I get nervous, and I like to see 4 or even better, 6 jars on my shelf. Along with 6 bags of Tostitos Scoops. Awesome combination.
SO I grab a jar, grab a tupperware thingie to put it in, shake well, prepare to twist off the top which usually is difficult, requiring muscles and such.
It came off with no effort. I mean the merest hint of a twist and it was off. No popping, no nothing.
*sob* Smelled a bit off. *whimper* Must flush it and go to the next one.
The next one did the same. And the next one. THREE JARS.
Flushed. Three. Jars.
The fourth and last one was sealed tight. *whew*
But now I'm outta salsa! The horror!
I literally go thru a jar every 2 days, sometimes, if I skip dinner, the salsa and chips ARE dinner. Or guacamole. Love that stuff too. Buy it 2 lbs at a time, in 8oz bags. Yum. Lasts about a week. Maybe.
I know, there are many things to become upset about, and having to throw away 3 of 4 jars of salsa isn't really one of them. Esp since they were on sale 2/$5. On further inspection, all three opened jars had serious dents along the top edge of the lid.
I'll watch for that from now on, plus try to open them in the store with very light pressure. This trauma must not be repeated.

are now selling for around $500,000. Here is the floorplan for it, and
I have some pictures here.
So for $500k you get a 4-br single-family home with 2 car garage and a
friggin pool, yet these guys are pricing a 2-br apartment at $300k?
Condominiums. I found out tonight that they set the price on my unit at
$300,000 - about 30% high, IMHO. So in a year when my lease is up, I'll
be moving. Here's a picture of the floorplan, and I have some pics of
the apartment here.
I actually got a better deal than some, the 1 bedroom (762 sq ft) are
going for $198k.
I was looking at houses, but they are all out of my price range, so
unless I want to spend 75% of my take home pay on a home, I'll be
staying here for a while. I am going to radically cut my spending and
try to save enough so that next year when I have to get out I will be
able to afford a nice down payment.
