Once, there was a guy who had just started work away from his family, in Singapore. He gets his first emceeing gig hosting a New Year's Eve party.

Then at the party, he spots this girl. She's there with her parents and without a date. He asks her to dance. They have a good time. And then, although he's never done it before, he asks for her number. She gives it to him.

They talk on the phone everyday, and she listens to his afternoon show. They get along nicely and he finds out that her birthday is at the end of the month. He decides to plan a surprise party for her.

He gets her mom to help. He enlists the help of her closest friends. He wraps her present, which is a book, in a pillow.

Finally the day arrives. She's pleasantly surprised. She's having a great time cus all her friends are there.

And one of those friends was me.

So Joe had this thing for my friend. He was actively pursuing her, but she wasn't looking for anything. She had mentioned to him that we should meet, cus we're so similiar. Turns out, the clever girl was right. She asked me to help her let him down gently, and I offered my shoulder for comfort.

We started dating soon after the party, although he did drag me to her house once. He kissed my cheek on my birthday, with my parents sitting my other side. We went steady 10 days later, on his birthday.

I still tease him that I liked him first, and that he didn't notice me.

He has a hard time trying to convince me otherwise.
