Hey guys, so I really don't like wank, because it tires me out, and I'm on the road right now, but under the circumstances I'll say this much.
It is pretty clear that partly_bouncy is deliberately fomenting this wank, in what is a remarkably shortsighted attempt to drive hits to her wiki. So, if you want to discourage this behavior, please don't link to her site or her lj, as otherwise you're giving her a Google boost. That's why I'm not linking any lj names etc here. The fanthropology mods have now gotten the post down, too, for which I'm very grateful to them.
About me personally, I am completely open in my public RL bio and my pro LJ about being a fanfic and slash writer; that is not a secret at all and can be easily cited from public information under my RL name without ever linking to my fannish pseud/journal. I keep my fannish pseud/url private in order to protect my fun happy space, not to hide any factual information.
I do ask (as I have every time I have posted the information) that people who know by virtue of being in fannish circles not post my RL name linked to my fan name and especially not in googleable locations. I don't care if you share the information with other fans privately, just please mention this request to them too. No one but partly_bouncy has ever not respected this wish, because, you know, most people aren't jerks.
The worst thing really about partly_bouncy's wiki is that it is useless when it is not worse than useless. It has very little actual information, much of what information it contains is bad and inaccurate, many policies are poorly designed where they are not thinly veiled excuses for abuse, and partly_bouncy has repeatedly used her administrative powers over the wiki as a tool in personal grudge matches, thereby destroying its credibility and ensuring that even if someone really wants to help preserve fannish history, they don't want to contribute to the site.
Fundamentally, partly_bouncy has made the mistake of valuing the wiki and some hypothetical future payout over the community the wiki is about. But that community is also the audience and the pool of potential contributors for the wiki. You can't build a site that is dependent on people contributing without people, and no one is going to come to the table if they feel that they are giving their time to someone who is looking to exploit them and who will deliberately hurt them or their friends or their larger community to do that. And you can't build a successful wiki without contributors no matter how many short-term hits you drive to your site by starting wanks. It is a real shame because this could have been an invaluable service to fandom and instead it's a waste of time.
Finally, if you are ever outed, don't panic. Here's what I suggest:

And avoid linking to the fan history wiki or to particular entries, even as examples, because more hits to their overall site drives them up in google results (and also rewards the bad behavior, since more traffic means more that they can charge for ads).

Hey guys -- a quick drive-by post to point you all at the awesome work of the OTW Content Policy committee and all the focus group volunteers, who have posted their draft of the ToS and content/abuse policies, which will govern the Archive Of Our Own.
One thing I want to stress about this is, we are not just looking for a rubber stamp or a pat on the back here; we really really really WANT your comments, suggestions, and reactions. This is a draft, and there are undoubtedly mistakes, and things that could be better, and things that just could be explained better. We are actively looking for stuff that needs to be changed and improved.
It's a huge document, so if you are willing to give us your thoughts but can't make it all the way through, it would be awesome even if you pick one random section out of the middle and comment on just that. Even if it turns out that some other section you didn't get to read addresses your concerns, that is still helpful, because it tells us to link the two together, for instance.
If you have more time, thumbtacking the posts and participating in the discussion, seeing what other fans are commenting, would be especially great, if you can.

It's still fun, but because I had already seen, during the final climactic battle scene (I do not consider it a spoiler to mention that there is such a scene in a superhero movie), my mind wandered, as it will in such circumstances, to Tony Stark picking up David Cook at a Hollywood party:
Tony: Hey, you're pretty hot. Want to come back to my place? I'm a superhero, you know.
Tony: Also I'm a gadzillionaire, but the superhero thing is way cooler.
DC: I'm kinda tempted, just to see what my management would say, but I'm pretty sure it would be violating my contract in a whole bunch of obscure ways.
Tony: I'll let you try out the suit.
DC: ...let's go.
It occurs to me Tony would realize very quickly that he can use this approach to make it with virtually EVERY GUY IN THE WORLD, no matter how straight.

1. Brain shooter/flamethrower. Since the challenge allows unlimited ammo, I will distract the zombies by firing delicious brains in their direction. While they feast, I will sneak out of the mall and set fire to it, thereby ridding the world of the zombie army, a Gap, an Express, a Banana Republic, and various other chain stores.
2. OK Go, Here It Goes Again. I feel it has the appropriate spirit for the combination of pyromania and zombie warfare, and also a nice rhythmic beat for keeping up steady fire.
3. Dean Winchester, because of his glee over zombie warfare, and I feel he would also get into the mall-destruction with the right spirit. However, I would like David Cook to be back at the motel waiting for us to return, looking like this:

setissma has written me this absolutely gorgeous post-SPN-finale story Thunderhead, Sam/Dean, pg-13 -- just the two of them, warm and intimate and lovely.
They track time through the dull fade of the sun through the curtains, yellow orange in the afternoon, shadowed in the evening, and he has everything he needs underneath his hands.

I have still have not quite been able to face watching the finale (despite spoiling myself thoroughly), but this has definitely gotten me to edge a little further towards it, in an extremely wary sort of way.

Okay, people, you need to go over to the otw_onlinecon Stories EXTREME challenge and read some of these summaries (and add more!)
The idea of the challenge is, you make up really wacky summaries of stories with bizarre combinations of pairings/fandoms/warnings etc, which we then get to use to test the archive software to make sure it can handle it. :D And also maybe someone writes one of them!
I especially ♥ this one from mackiedockie:
Warnings: Slash, het, threesomes, overage sex, magic, bad theology, Victorian, cultish acts, human sacrifice, dubcon, OFC, possible character death. Make that probable.

Yes, for the same low price you get even MORE David Cook pimping! \o/
First up, julad reminded me that I omitted this gem from the previous round. Idol does this annual fundraiser called Idol Gives Back where they put on a slew of performances and haul in every celeb they can to coax people to give money. One of the things they did was bring on a bunch of dancers from their other reality show, So You Think You Can Dance, and among other things had them dance with the Idols on the song "Please Don't Stop The Music" to camouflage the fact that as dancers, the Idols are all really good singers.
No one ever gets more than a one or two line solo in these things, but happily, the solo DC got in this song was the "your hands around my waist" bit, and the dancer did in fact put her hands around his waist and give him a little hip-swing assist, which rather predictably led to this fanvid that takes the tiny little clip, sets it to Justin Timberlake's Sexy Back song, and repeats. Over. and over. and over and -- basically, it is half hilarious, half porn.

In non-David Cook news, the Star Trek teaser totally made me shiver. I will hate them so much if it is bad. :(

So in the end, getting home from Wisconsin took me 24 hours, door to door, or 29 if you count the time I *should* have been leaving for the original flight. I am now mostly recovered, but I mention this because if anyone felt sorry for me and wanted to write me some consolatory SPN or David Cook fanfic, that would be okay. *bats eyes*
Speaking of David Cook and fanfic, I have now sat down and gone through the responses to my desperate post trolling for votes the night before the AI finale, and omg, I ♥ you guys so much. :D To make sure I have everyone, below the cut are the ones where people gave me tallies & requests -- if I got something wrong, or if you didn't give me a tally/request yet, let me know! *dances*

Adding in my own mad frenzy of dialing and texting, that makes a total of 6549 6607 7553 votes. One small share of the 12 million that put him over the top! \o/ (Though the main effect was to allow me to survive through to the next day with sanity, um, sort of intact, so really I am mostly grateful for my own sake.)
In other David Cook news, look, look, slodwick has made T-SHIRTS. Runs on DC! I am totally going to wear one to the concert. Yes, I am actually going to the Idol tour, in Atlantic City on August 2, so if any of you are going there, let me know!
I am also kind of contemplating hitting the Nassau Coliseum show -- where I saw my first ever concert, Duran Duran! good times -- so uh, if any of you were thinking maybe you might want to go... *waves hand vaguely*
Anyway, I am deeply relieved that I am not the only person on my flist to have developed a ludicrous fannish pash for David Cook. I should warn the rest of you that I totally intend to pimp this guy at you hard, because I desperately need some DC fandom to sustain me here now that the media blitz is over and he is going to disappear into the studio. I am seriously never watching American Idol again. They kill off a character every week, and even if your favorite is the last one standing, the season ends and they don't come back! NOT ON, Idol machine. :(
So here are some reasons why you should also develop a pash for him, starting with...

...and then finally, the makeup people put too much eyeliner on him, he wins by 12 million votes and cries some more, then he sings the crappy song that won the amateur songwriting competition that Idol runs for the winner's single for some reasons which passeth understanding, and he is really nice to Archie and pulls him on stage with him, and Simon apologizes to him, and he is SO HAPPY. IT IS THE BEST THING EVER. There is even a magic rainbow. (No, seriously, there is. Watch!)
There is much much more and I will probably ramble about it in future, but if you cannot wait :D, there is the excellent davidcookai7 community, which is moderated posting and has a bunch of members-locked stuff, and will probably not be quite as insanely high-volume as it has been lately.
So... I can has fanfic now? Please? *looks hopefully around*
(PS: I note that the Stories EXTREME challenge is running over at otw_onlinecon with, as an example selected totally at random with no undue influence from me at all, "David Cook as a student at Hogwarts" which clearly needs to be written. In fact, I think that is him riding the unicorn in the picture there, in his outfit from Billie Jean.)

I am in St. Louis which would be more exciting if it were not the result of (1) a flight cancellation, (2) a second flight getting rerouted to Kansas City because it RAN OUT OF GAS, (3) missing my connection home, (4) not a single flight out of St. Louis going anywhere in the NYC area after 7pm. I even ran madly to a flight going to Baltimore with some desperate idea of taking the train home from there, except that was already gone also.
Anyway! I am now ensconced in hotel with internet access room service, and shower, which I am taking advantage of in that order because my priorities are at least well established if not necessarily the best.
Also, hey, David Cook won American Idol! *totally clings to fannish high*

Okay, the voting window is closed, and I'm still too riled up to go to sleep, so you get ( some spoilery rambling (ranting?) on the American Idol finale. )
I have to say, a fictional fandom has never hurt anywhere near this much, largely because I'm always satisfied to fix it for myself. Not quite so easy to fix the real world. :/
And now I am going to eat some cookies and drink some milk and go to bed for a while. *creeps away*

Okay, I realize this is insane, but I'm SO ANGRY right now I'm irrational.
If any of you out there will vote for David Cook RIGHT NOW TONIGHT, I'll write you a story with as many words as you get in votes. Any fandom I have ever written in. If there are a bunch of takers it'll take me a while to get them all done, and I still have a Sweet Charity story to finish, but they WILL get done.
If you live in the US, have a Windows computer with a phone modem, the best way is to install dialidol.com's software (that link goes to a copy I've set up myself on my own server since theirs is being hammered tonight -- you need to have the .NET 2.0 framework installed too) and set it up to auto-vote for David Cook.
Ditto if you have an AT&T cellphone and will text votes (text "VOTE" to 5701).
Ditto for that matter if you want to just manually call with redial -- his numbers are 1-866-436-5703, 1-866-436-5705, and 1-866-436-5701. The phone lines open at 9pm local time, so if you are getting a constant busy signal that may be why.
ETA to add: and *another* ditto if you are ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD and install Gizmo5 and use it to vote (but NOTE -- don't use this if you can use one of the others):

You can test this out now but the numbers for voting wont show up until it's voting time.

On a totally separate note, I, um, seem to have gotten completely hooked on American Idol, and specifically David Cook. D: I have bought all his idol singles off itunes and I keep listening to them over and over. I, uh, might theoretically even like his old solo album.
But I am finding it extremely frustrating to feel fannish about something without being able to grab onto some way to write fanfic for it. I have all this energy that instead goes into watching youtube clips and reading gossip columns and afterwards I feel sort of like I've staggered out of a bar at 4am and all my money's gone. :/ *considers AU ideas*
