Not that anyone cares what I think but I'm not participating in the strike/boycott on Friday. Why not? Because the idea of a one day "strike"/"boycott" is moronic to me. Now, I'm not calling those who choose to participate moronic, stand up for what you believe and whatnot but really? One day does not a boycott make. Boycotts and strikes last for weeks, months, even years until those protesting the action get what they want. For example, the Montgomery Bus Boycott, one of the first major events in the Civil Rights movement lasted from December 1, 1955 to December 20, 1956 and not only that, the Supreme Court had to get involved. The most recent major strike, the Writer's Strike, lasted for four months until the writer's got what they wanted. You see? One day won't change anything. SUP is aware of the strike and even if they weren't I'm certain that they wouldn't really care, which is what the interview seems to indicate. But then again, Russians are very direct and use a lot of strong language in their speech. So, if you think about it, maybe that's calm for him.
In summation:
SUP has less business sense than lichen growing on a rock. However, it's their business to run as they see fit.
The LJ userbase is behaving somewhat foolishly in thinking that a one day boycott will solve anything. But they are free to do whatever they want, it's none of my business.
My thoughts: I don't really care? I'm kind of ambivalent about the whole deal as I don't really post on LJ very much to begin with so it doesn't really affect me very much, except that I might be bored that day.
Anyway, to anyone participating in the strike, good luck. I hope it does well and if it proves me wrong, well, more power to you. |
