    "Men's Rights" movement
Just now, an acquaintance told me about the "cool new Men's Right's movement".
I curiously picked his brain on the matter. My numbers (which were his numbers) may be off, but my case still stands.

This acquaintance told me that money is recklessly poured into fighting domestic violence when "only 1200 women" (and 1200 is acceptable?) died last year (something like that) of domestic violence in the US. He also said that many more men have died of suicide resulting from their agony over women. Here are two problems I pointed out to him, and it's all about statistical bullshit:

    1) Look at the entire population of female victims of domestic violence: the majority isn't killed; what about the majority? I would even venture to say that more victims would rather be dead than be stuck in their abusive situation.

    2) Look at the entire population of people who are suicidal: relative to women, men are significantly more successful in their suicide attempts (because they're more likely to use irreversible techniques like gunfire and hanging, while women typically use reversible techniques like overdosing and wrist-slitting). Attempted suicide is neglected in that statistic.

And are we ignoring sexual assault statistics? Surely women aren't oppressing men in that department.

Now I think I understand why I spent three semesters studying statistical techniques.

"There is guidance for each of us, and by lowly listening, we shall hear the right word. Certainly there is a right for you that needs no choice on your part. Place yourself in the middle of the stream of power and wisdom which flows into your life. Then, without effort, you are impelled to truth and to perfect contentment."
    - Ralph Waldo Emerson

Life seems very vivid right now.
I am going to resume my study of Spanish after a three year hiatus.

    A miracle indeed!
The Mac Experience on North Walnut managed to recover seemingly all of the data from my dead hard drive! So $279 later, I have 20 more gigs hard drive space and the wisdom to back up my files. TOTALLY WORTH IT!

    :D

    "Do you have a girlfriend?"
Haha - Awesome... So I was delivering a Crazy Aver's deal to Hoosier Courts, and I ring this girl's door... She had about six of her hot female friends over, and one of them opened the door, smiled, and asked, "Do you have a girlfriend?"
And I said, "No - but I have your pizza."
"Good!" she said as she tugged at my free arm as I tried to balance her food with the other.
I'm standing on the doorstep, and her friends are all eyeing me, and I feel like Hugh Heffner for a moment. "So - here's your food. The total is $10.89."
"Come in. I want to make out with you," says the hottie as her friends watch like hawks.
    "I - uh - I'm working...Maybe I would, but I'm working."
"I don't care. Come in," she laughs as she plants a kiss on my cheek. "What's your name?"
    "Evan."
    "Mmm..."
    "Your total is $10.89."
"Jenna - you have the money?"
And her friend hands me a check with a generous tip.
And I hand off the food, smile, and say, "Thanks for choosing Aver's."
And I leave, laughing my ass off as I get back into my car.
And when I get back into Aver's I curse myself for not leaving my phone number.
But it was probably a dare from her friends anyway.
    But it was fun

Last night, Richie and I went to the Comedy Festival at the IMU, and on our way back we spotted three flying squirrels just north of the IU Auditorium, and we watched them chase each other, gliding tree to tree and squeaking/chirping, for a good 15 minutes. It was surreal.

I also burned my hands a lot today at work, during my 10.3 hour work day... I can't take many more long days like this.

My trip-leader partner for Habitat Spring Break is one cool chica. Thank GOD. There were a few other trip leaders (who are on other trips - PHEW!) that I could NEVER work with... My heart goes out to THEIR partners.

    Why Indiana?
I wonder if I would be single today if I decided to stay in Massachusetts. I love my friends out here, but I can't help but correlate the fact that I haven't had one successful romance in 2.5 years of being at IU. This was never a problem for me in Massachusetts. Maybe it's just college. It's almost nauseating.

    I LOVE GROUPEX!
I decided to try Hip Hop dance tonight, and Jess was there! Now we're going together to try Jazz dance tomorrow night. I really surprised myself at how well I did Hip Hop; in fact, I had the balls to be one of the models in the front after we learned the sequence. Go me!

    Funny...
I facebooked some guy taking SOC S339 to sell him my books. Turns out he took the class last semester and thought it was incredibly easy. He's convinced me to go to the class tonight and see what I think for myself. Hah.
