I'm back [14 Nov 2006|11:49pm]
[ mood | chipper ]

I arrived home yesterday afternoon. I really wish I could have stayed longer but I have a family to come back to. haha I had so much fun in Stockholm. Part of the reason it was so great was because I had time to myself. I spent all of Saturday shopping at Kista Centrum, one of the biggest shopping malls in Stockholm I believe. On Sunday I explored the downtown area during the day and went to the Keane concert in the evening.

The concert was the reason I was in town. I was not disappointed. It was amazing! I think I'm still on a high from the concert. I didn't get to the arena as early as I would have liked but I still managed to find a decent spot maybe around 15 meters from the stage. Once the concert started people from behind started pushing and I was shoved another 3-4 meters closer to the stage. I took tons of pictures but most of them were bad. Almost all of them were out of focus and most of them had people's hands blocking part of the shot. I've got some video clips and pictures that came out decent here. )

Gray and drab [07 Nov 2006|12:28pm]
[ mood | lonely ]

It's just one of those gray and drab days. A little over a week ago, we got like almost 30 cm of snow. Now the weather is a bit above freezing and there's a light drizzle. Wet and cold :( I think the winter depression is starting to settle in too. The good news is that I'm going to Stockholm this weekend to see one of my favorite bands in concert.

Autumn is my favorite season of the year. I love the colors all around me-- the golds, oranges, and reds. I love how the air's fresh and crisp. It's so cozy when you get to put on sweater but not have to bundle up too much. Here in northern Sweden, the autumns are fairly short. The foliage isn't very impressive either. We've got mostly birch, pine, and spruce trees up here. Birch leaves turn yellow, then brown, and then they and fall off. There aren't many other trees up here that have the gorgeous autumn foliage.

We've been going to Babysim (swim school for babies) for 6 weeks now. It's a fun activity for all of us. Last week Edwin started diving underwater. We caught it all on video. Here's one of the dives.

It's another gorgeous day here in Northern Sweden. We spent the weekend at my MIL's where we enjoyed playing outside with Edwin and barbequing. I should tidy up the house today but it's just too nice to be at home. I'll probably take the bus into town later on this afternoon. Tonight is the first home game of the season for our local hockey team. We're going to drop Edwin off at Stefan's aunt's so that we'll be able to watch the entire game. I can't wait :)

Here's a picture of Edwin taken this weekend. And a picture of Stefan taken over 30 years ago. They're wearing the exact same shirt. Cute huh? ;)

The Swedish Election Results Are In [18 Sep 2006|12:13am]
[ mood | pleased ]

I must say that we're very pleased with the election results. There will be a power shift in Sweden with the conservatives coming into power. I think they (the Moderates) have really been listening to people and focusing on the important issues in this country. I'm really looking forward to the positive changes.

Sometimes the nicest weekends are the ones where you don't actually do very much. This weekend was one of those weekends. Yesterday Stefan, Edwin, and I had lunch/fika in town with my MIL and Stefan's aunt at Kåffe Inn. We had some delicious chicken sandwiches and coffee. The autumn weather has arrived and it was quite cozy to sit in a cafe and warm up with a hot cup of coffee. But I think my favorite thing in that cafe was the mirror in their restroom. The restroom is tiny (just enough room for a toilet and a sink) and the mirror is actually 2 mirrors that meet in the corner of the room. Standing in the right angle can make you look super slim. I looked like I could be a size 4! hehe :) Well anyway, afterwards we did a bit of shopping. I bought some material for some new curtains for the living room. Then we went grocery shopping for a couple of items for dinner. Our friends Seiko and Olov came over for a fondue dinner and stayed until almost midnight. Lots of food, wine, and conversation. It was a lot of fun.

Today I got to sleep in while Stefan took care of Edwin. We took Edwin to swim class this afternoon and had a junk food dinner at Max afterwards. Then I worked on my new curtains. I finished them a little more than an hour ago. And here they are:

And now I'm going to bed :)

My dirty little secret [21 Aug 2006|11:13am]
[ mood | content ]

I’m not the neatest person in the world. However, when I see a mess, it drives me absolutely crazy. Lately, my house has been insanely messy. I’ve made all kinds of excuses about not having enough time but the truth is that I have plenty of time but no willpower. I just don’t feel like cleaning. Newspapers, bills, junk mail were piled onto the dining table and we’ve had to move stuff aside to find an empty surface so that we could eat our meals. The dishes-situation is a bit better. When there are enough dirty dishes to fill up the dishwasher, they’re finally moved from the smelly piles on my counter into the dishwasher. Suitcases and overnight-duffle bags had been laying on the floor for weeks waiting to be unpacked and put away. Piles of clean (at least they’re clean) and wrinkly clothes were in the laundry basket waiting to be folded. To tell you the truth, I could go on about extent of the mess but you get what I mean.

This problem I have with messiness goes back to when I was a kid. I can’t offer any theories as to why I’m like this. Maybe I wasn’t hugged enough as a kid. Who knows? My room just got that way. My dad had a solution to get my room clean though. It wasn’t enough to nag or to ground me until I’d clean my room. One day when he was fed up, he grabbed a cardboard box and came into my room. I just stood on the side helplessly as he cleared my desk of papers and other junk. Everything ended up in that cardboard box. I was supposed to go though everything in the box for things I didn’t want to throw away. Everything else would be in the trash within the next few days. I was pissed for a while but I must say that my room looked great afterwards.

Last week when some acquaintances invited themselves over for a visit, I got that same feeling my dad probably had years before. I was fed up with the mess and I grabbed a cardboard box. And then another…
Now my house looks better than it has in months, with the exception of my laundry room where I’m storing the cardboard boxes and laundry baskets.

Stockholm [12 Aug 2006|04:57pm]
I've got 2 Stockholm trips coming up. The first one is in about 2 weeks. I'll be there from Aug 26- 29. I'm supposed to run Tjejmilen. I'll have to walk it instead. A month ago I got the cough from hell. I wasn't exactly sick but I had this dry cough that would not go away. In fact, I still have it. I have been a lot better in the last week but Stefan and my MIL insist that I shouldn't exercise or I'd get "hjärtinflammation." I've never heard of such a thing. I've Googled this and everything. I've read that as long as you don't have the flu or a fever, it's ok to work out. But I've been looking forward to Tjejmilen for a long time and it's really too bad I won't be able to run it.

I'm really looking forward to my second trip there. It'll be in November, when Keane plays in the Annex at Globen. Although their second album is not as good as their first one, I think it'll still be a good show. I had so much fun when I saw them last year. There will be some shopping and some dining too. Can't wait.

Happy Mother's Day! [28 May 2006|12:59pm]
It's Mother's Day in Sweden. I'm at my MIL's for the weekend. The weather this morning looked promising. It was about 20C+ in the sun. But the clouds rolled in and we've been getting passing showers all morning. I guess barbequing is out :( On the bright side, we're going to Källan, a health spa in a neighboring town for a Mother's Day buffet. Afterwards, we're going to take a dip in the heated pool. Good times :) It was sort of a last minute thing so I didn't bring a bathing suit. I tried on my MIL's and it was not a pretty picture. OK so it's not the right size for me but I don't think I'm going to look good in ANY bathing suit right now. I've really had enough with looking the way I do. I decided that I'm going to lose 20 kg. That would take my goal weight down to 56 kg (123 lbs) and a 20.5 BMI. I'll write more about my plans for this in another entry. Time to leave for Källan :P

Photo entry... again [22 Apr 2006|08:25pm]
I realize I haven't posted in a while. When my mom was visiting, I felt like I was busier than ever. My mom went home earlier this week and things are slowing going back to normal.

We'll be going to Hawaii on June 1 so we had to get Edwin a passport. Two weeks ago, we went to the police station to get his picture taken and turn in the application. The policewoman there said that he's one of the youngest applicants they had so far. It took quite a while to get a decent picture. It's not the best picture of him but I guess it's still kind of cute:

Edwin's passport

I've also taken some pics on the camera phone. Here's a picture from yesterday. It's a picture of Edwin and [info]blue_eyed_girl's daughter Petra. [info]he1ena and Beverly are behind the kids.

And finally, here's Edwin trying on a pair of sunglasses in the store.

Am I cool or what?

My mom arrived in Skellefteå today! :D As expected, she's just absolutely in love with Edwin. She pretty much held him the whole afternoon and evening. Oh yeah... now I've got some Kraft mac and cheese, ranch dressing, and chocolate covered macadamia nuts. Yum!

I've got some pics from today, if you wanna see 'em... )

[info]blue_eyed_girl inspired me to try a recipe that puts a twist on the classic semla. I loooove semlor (plural form of "semla") and was skeptical about trying this new recipe. After reading about how delicious Beverly's semlor turned out, I had to see for myself. I'm not as good as Beverly is when it comes to baking so it might be part of the reason they didn't come out so good. I had my suspicions that the proportions were off. The buns were dry and bland, but bitter at the same time. I decided I would play around with the recipe by using my MIL's "classic" semlor recipe (which makes the most moist and delicious semlor) as the base. I added cocoa (2½ Tbs instead of 1 dl which the new recipe called for), vanilla, and more sugar to my MIL's recipe. And voíla... the most awesome chocolate-coffee semlor! They were deeeeelicious. Chocolatey but without leaving a weird texture on your tongue and a bitter taste in your mouth. Feast your eyes on this baby! :)

My MIL has been hinting to us to send out thank you cards to people who gave Edwin presents after he was born. I know... he's almost 3 months and we haven't done that yet :( I ordered some thank you cards today with this picture on it:

[ mood | busy ]

I started writing an entry several times this week but each time, I was interupted before I finished. So I guess I'll keep this entry short so I'll actually be able to finish for once. LOL :D

It's another beautiful day today (sunny, 7 C). You wouldn't think that we were in northern Sweden if it wasn't for all the snow already on the ground ;) I sooo wanted to take a walk today but my driveway is a slope of maybe 25 degrees and icy as hell. I wouldn't be able to get anywhere without falling on my ass.

It's getting easier with Edwin now, probably because I know what he needs whenever he's fussy. Usually it's food ;) He sleeps an average of 6 hours straight at night so I'm more rested too. Last night he slept for 9 ½ hours straight! And the night before, 8 ½ hours. I never thought it would happen.

A bit of news. I convinced my mom to come visit me! She's coming in 3 weeks and will stay with me for 5 weeks. Yay! I can't wait for her to finally see the baby. She's been sad because she hasn't held him yet.

Ok well, Edwin's up and it's time to feed him.

Doh!! [06 Feb 2006|10:36pm]
Johanna, Beverly, Helena, Melanie, and I were sitting around Wayne's (it's a cafe for those of you not in Sweden) today and I noticed that I was just shamelessly bragging about Edwin. I've become one of those people who go around whipping out their wallets (or in my case, the cell phone) showing people pictures of their kid. I can't help it. I'm a proud mama.
