You simply have to go and watch the trailer for this. It's an independant movie about a couple of fans of the show "24" who have to stop a terrorist attack on Provo, Utah.
And it's got Donny Osmond in it! Awesome. :)

Willie P. Bennett left us on Feb 15th in his home in Peterborough. One of Canada's greatest and most underappreciated singer-songwriters is gone at 56. A sad, black day for music and music-lovers.
Most people likely know Willie best as part of Fred Eaglesmith's band. But his own music inspired legions of musicians in Canada. So much so, that about 10 years ago, three of Canada's most talented musicians from the worlds of folk, rock and blues created a tribute to him in the form of a band called Blackie and the Rodeo Kings. Stephen Fearing, Tom Wilson (from Junkhouse) and Colin Linden came together and recorded a cd of his music, taking the moniker from one of Willie's songs. They have since recorded four albums as a band and aquired multiple Juno nominations.
His music lives on...but we're going to miss you, "Uncle" Willie.

I just saw this article today and I am thoroughly disgusted and offended by <a href="http://www.cbc.ca/arts/film/story/2007/07/18/homer-pagans-drawing.html" this</a>.
It just goes to show just how little respect some have for people who are pagans. To degrade and cheapen a site held in the same regard as Stonehenge just to promote a movie opening is horrid. Adding to the fact that this is a national landmark and protected site dating back to the 17th century.
Up until now I was merely indifferent about The Simpsons. If I still ran a store that sold dvds, I wouldn't even stock them after a stunt like this.

Hot damn....
Ok - I got totally hooked on So You Think You Can Dance last year and fell totally in love with Benji and Travis. I didn't think there was anyway possible they could find better dancers than they had in S2.
I was wrong.
Tonight's show rocked my socks. Every single routine was freakin' amazing! I wouldn't even know who to vote for! Faves thus far though? Anya and Danny (Danny is just a gorgeous dancer) ... Jesus and Sara (omg - Jesus is my dancer boy crush for this season) ... Lacey and Kameron (watch out Benji, your sister may just kick your ass in dancing) ... Pasha and Jessi (totally electric together) ... I still love Hok but he could be in trouble this week just due to how fantastic all the routines were.
This season is going to be one hell of a rollercoaster ride...

Hey peeps - I need some lyrics about music. I know I've got a lot of music geeks on the flist .... give me your best shot. :)
Well, I'm feeling a tad better than I was in my last entry. I had a good cry, ate some ice cream and had a night of self-pity but I'm ready to get back on the horse again. Still have the massive disappointment that I lost such a fantastic opportunity but frankly, it's their loss. If they don't want someone on the Orillia arts council that brings my amount of knowledge about the local music industry or the amount of enthusiasm and dedication I would bring to the position....I'll just take it elsewhere. Not sure where yet, but I'm on the search again.
I'm mostly bummed that I had so many plans for the arts council and the downtown ticketing office that I can't implement now, and it would have allowed me to spend a lot more time volunteering in the arts community, but so be it.
Things I love this week...
-- Seeing the Facts of Life episode 62 Pickup again with Bobby and Fabian. So much fun! My favourite scene is the bit with them and Tootie at the start of the episode...
Bobby: Don't you know who we are?
Tootie: Should I?
Fabian: I should hope so, we sing all over the country. We're known as The Golden Boys.
Bobby: (a little overconfidently) I'm Bobby Rydell.
Tootie: Who?
Fabian: Don't worry, his own mother doesn't recognize him. I'm Fabian.
Tootie: Who?
Bobby: (exasperated sigh) You know, when the two of us weren't any older than you, we were singing on the Ed Sullivan Show. (Bobby gives his best "I'm a famous guy" look)
Tootie: Who?
Of course the really fun part is when Beverly Ann tells the story about how the place they live used to be a boarding house for musicians playing in Peekskill and we flash back to 1962. Complete with pompadours and the four girls as the singing group, The Sha-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la's (you sort've need to say in groups of three la's, heh).
-- Bobby Flay. Ok, I've recently become addicted to watching Iron Chef America. Not only do I enjoy watching Bobby Flay cook 'cause he's a genius but he's also cute as hell. He's also got a show on that I love called Throwdown with Bobby Flay. Competative much? :-)
-- Danny Michel. Ok, I've always loved Danny...anyone who knows me will attest to that. But he just put out a live dvd/cd set that is so freakin' good that it calls for a spot on the list of happy making things this week.
-- my PVR. I resisted but I finally broke down and got a digital recorder for my tv. Should have done this eons ago.
-- So You Think You Can Dance. S3 is on the way! If it's *half* as good as S2 I'll be a happy girl. Even happier if we see an appearance over the season from Benji! (I hear that Dimitri is helping Mary out this season!!)
-- News that Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip is coming back! Yeehaw!!
That's all I've got right now....

Well....it's official. I am a complete failure in my desire to advance in the arts community. Despite eight years of promoting local music at the record store, despite three years of volunteer work with the folk festival where I am now Emporium coordinator along with the other committees and despite references from a sitting member of the arts council and the president of the folk foundation....I still failed to land what would have been my dream job as director of the Orillia arts council.
I'm obviously holding onto a pipe dream. I might as well get used to troubleshooting cell phones for moron customers.
(Pardon me my night of wallowing in self-pity....)

I know I'm not around much lately but it's been *crazy*. Job hunting, writing for the Mariposa program, setting up MySpace sites, doing some genealogy work, hunting for a new job (hopefully a new one shortly!!) ... oh, and working at my crappy job. Plus I've got a helluva cold right now too.
But I just had to pop on and say that the very best thing I've heard lately is...
Jorja Fox's contract expiring + return of the miniature killer + Sara Sidle goes missing
I know that I'll be throwing a party. ;-) I'm sure we can find someone to comfort Grissom when his midlife crisis girlfriend with the daddy issues goes missing. Worst scenes on television. I'd rather watch The Apprentice then those painful "romance" scenes with the two of them. *shudder*

Anyone who wants to hear my geeky entry about flying hundreds of miles to hear singer who had their hits before I was even alive...will have to go here. :)
In other news, I'm thinking about taking in a taping of The Hour with my boyfriend George on Thurs. April 5th. (And *maybe* Air Farce afterwards.) Any joiners?

Hey ho peeps! After the comedy of errors that it was today, I *finally* made it to Philly! The "street" that the hostel is on is a little scary but I'll give you all a full update at a later point. But I'm here and I'm alive and all - more later. :)
As posted by Graham today...
"Shoshana Sperling (mostly her) and Maury Lafoy (a BIT him) gave birth to their FIRST baby boy. Henry was born around 5am this morning (March 4th 2007).
He is 19 inches long and weighs 6 pounds 11 ounces. I'm so lucky to have gotten to see him on his very first day on this planet. I'm so happy and proud of my two best friends (and now, my third)."

Ok - I know you music fans are out there. :) Here's a question for you ...
Other than the artist and venue websites, where do you go to find out about music events. Either in your local area or in a place you might be tempted to travel to for a show?

I'd cut this big rant but frankly at this point, I just can't be bothered. I'm so peeved and well beyond the point of caring about much of anything tonight...you'll see why...
So - when last I was on here was about Dad's accident. After a couple of completely frantic weeks of looking after the house, the pets, working, running errands for me, running errands for Dad, making arrangements for him for coming home and working full-time plus trying to get stuff done for Mariposa - Dad finally came home about a week and a half ago. Meanwhile at work we had a new shift bid. I went from a day shift to a 1-9:30 shift on Mon, Tues, Fri with 3-11:30 Sat and 12:30-9 on Sunday. Which means that I can't take the bus. Which means $40 a day in cab fare. I make $80 a day before taxes. O.o
So I tried for over two unsuccessful weeks to get a shift trade. My last chance at that fell through the Wed before the shift change. Days off were on the Thurs and Fri. Which means I got screwed. Hard. I went to my sup about the lack of transportation, the fact that my father needs me to be around at night plus my Mariposa committments. Got told basically that they don't really give a crap and apparently it doesn't matter that they are short staffed and that I can go to part-time hours or I'm free to quit. Fine...you want to play it like that? Put in my request for part-time the same day. That was on Jan 24th to take effect on Feb 5th which was the start of a pay period.
Let's check the calender shall we? Oh look....it *IS* Feb 5th (at least it was a little bit ago, lol). Am I on my part-time hours? That would be a big no. Why you ask? Because the monkeys who run the call center lost my fucking paperwork that's why. So now I get to be penalized because this place is run by disorganized morons. I talked to John at OSC today about it. First he tells me that the PT will start in two weeks. I tell him it was supposed to start today. He says, "but you started at 1pm today." Which is when I tell him that I was told to because they lost my *first* PT request. Then he gives me the hours and tells me I can start them tomorrow. Fine. Am I starting them tomorrow? Of course not. 'Cause it's not the start of a pay period anymore because it's monday and I've started work. So now I have to wait til next monday. Which means my dad gets to spend another week of trying to get his own dinner and take care of the pets while getting around the house with his walker because I work for incompetants.
And what does my new sup have to say? "Well, it's not like they lost the paperwork on purpose..."
You know what? FUCK OFF!!!! I'm not fucking getting any sleep, I don't have time to get my bios done and soon I'm going to have twice the meetings when merch gets it together - who the hell even knows if I'll be able to even get to anything the way this is going. My father is left fending for himself. I fell like complete crap with all the stress, aggrevation and lack of sleep. My father is going stir crazy and taking me with him and in addition to fucking with my life, work is now going to *patronize* me???
By the time my PT hours kick in, I will have spent $450 in cab fare. Raise your hand if you think I'm looking for a new job...

This has been just about the most stressful day of recent recollection. I worked all day, and usually Dad picks me up. No ride tonight. I figured he fell asleep or was out walking the dog and lost track of the time. Left a message on the machine and caught a cab for the Mariposa meeting. Walked home after. No lights on at the house at all, car in the driveway and I can hear the dog barking as I walk up the driveway. Totally unusual. Unlock the door and he's not here - checked the whole house. His keys are here and so is his wallet. No note or anything. I start frantically calling people and no one has heard from him. I finally think to check the answering machine and there's a message from the paramedics that he's been taken to the hospital after a fall. After numerous transfers on the phone I finally find out that he fell on a patch of ice while he was walking the dog and broke his hip today.
Needless to say I'm a bit of a wreck right now - and the fact that I haven't eaten since 2:30 likely isn't helping.
I'll talk to y'all more later...

I haven't been around for a while I know. First I had the rather debilitating wrist strain that kept me off the computer for several weeks. Then I got caught up with Mariposa (I'm not only on the marketing committee and the merchandising committee but I'm actually running the Emporium this year too.)
I had to post tonight to let you know that those of you used to actually laying eyes on me....won't be for some time unless things change at work I just got royally shafted. Every six months we have a shift bid. What did I put in for? Early start time - 'cause I have Mariposa, and concerts....and a life outside of work. What did I get you might ask?
Mon, Tues, Fri 1pm-9:30pm ... Sat 3pm -11:30pm ... Sun 12:30pm - 9pm
Any musicians reading this...unless I can get a shift trade you will likely not see me again for MONTHS.
Unless I quit. Which is getting more and more likely with every passing day. (But I can't actually do it til after my vacation with the non-refundable airline tickets and all, heh)
I'm so pissed off and stressed out right now it's not even funny.

Thank goddess for the Mariposa Arts Theatre. Two weeks from now I'm finally seeing Prairie Home Companion. The dvd is on my Christmas list but I wouldn't pass up a chance to see it at the cinema. :)

Happy Halloween/All Hallow's Eve and Blessed Samhain to all of you. And Happy Pagan New Year. :) I'm not really online much tonight, being the day that it is and me being of the pagan sort but I thought I should put in a brief appearance and say...hi, heh.
I just finished my annual complex tarot spread and I'm interpreting and contemplating it now to see what seems to be coming up and the things I need to work on. (You know, I did a spread last November and I had a Tower card in it. The card of upheaval and great change. It was placed for me in a time period of about six months. Six and a half months later was when I was "relieved" of my job at the store.
I had to admit that I kind of gulped at the reverse death card placed in my future relationships. (Not as bad as it sounds, but no one really likes to see the death card. *g*)
Blessed be all. I'm suddenly struck by the immortal words of Thomas Jefferson as put forth in a classic movie....be excellent to one another. :-D

There is snow on the ground...
Wtf? It's not even Samhain yet! Granted I do live on the edge of the snowbelt and it's not *much* snow and will likely go away but still...it's just wrong. It's not allowed to snow until it's November.
On another note, I just took out a membership with the American Music Theatre for the express purpose of being able to buy Golden Boys tickets a week ahead of the general public. What the hell. I figure I'm going all the way down to the Philly area for a show then I am damn well going to be front row for the show. And who knows how many more chances I'll have to see them live? They won't tour forever.
