Hi, Abby's dictating this.

"i love livejournal!!!" -abby (I don't/I do) "lalalalalala" -abby

because...

well.

*laughs*

She wants me to update my livejournal. Woo, got caps lock on. But instead I feel like sitting here and drinking my white russian. Umm. Well. Not a lot has changed since I updated last, or at least... At lot has changed but I don't really care to go into details. I'm always glancing over Abby's shoulder while she's looking at some uber-artsy art student's livejournal and I feel like I have to have something profound to say since I've had very few things to say over the year. Instead...(dot dot dot) I HAVE NOTHING TO SAY AGAIN.

Sorry.

No uber-fancy or uber-artsy or whatever pictures of myself and the shit that I've made or the crap that I have done over the past year. Instead I'm just going to sit here and waste space.

Thank you. God bless. You. Did you sneeze, I'm sorry.

"I'm like fucking up your livejournal." -abby

9:09 pm - Never ask a hobo for directions
Somehow Abby and I started having improvised conversations today. Somehow we both started pretending we were completely different people. It happened twice and without any initiation on either of our parts and we got several very interesting conversations out of it. It was about as fun as it was weird and surprisingly both conversations broke out spontaneously. I guess you have to be truly comfortable with someone to break out randomly in improvised conversation?
Abby proved to me that Grant Park really isn't that great after all when you count how many homeless guys are in it at any given time during the day. She insists that Millennium Park is far better but when I think about it Millennium Park isn't really much of a park anyway. It's more like a large area restaurant/outdoor theater that white people like to frequent. We saw this poor college age guy doing his juggling act for a less then excited crowed and I felt kind of bad for him. But at the same time it was like a train wreck because I couldn’t turn my eyes away. Let’s just hope I don’t turn up like that in two years.
I also saw a hobo giving some confused elderly people bad directions this afternoon. My number one rule for Chicago tourists is never get directions from a hobo because he's most likely high and/or drunk and doesn't know a word of what he's saying, but I'm sure they found that out somehow.

3:23 pm - So I actually checked shit on the Internet last night...
So I'm actually writing in here? Wow.

So I've decided that I want to go work for the Travel Channel as the host of my own travel show. Okay so maybe I just want to get paid to travel and eat crazy food, but still. I hear they make potato pancakes in Russia with about a half a bottle of vodka . . . sounds like an interesting meal. Anyone want to pay for my flight?

Ugh I hate Corel Painter. Not because Its a bad program but just because I'm so damn bad at it. I have to learn how to paint all over again and everyone else in my class is already doing detailed self-portraits of themselves. Fuck me. I have the rest of the evening to becoming a master at Painter or I'm screeeeewed.

Monday should be called Notfunday. That's all.

EDIT: I bought the soundtrack to Serge's film Cannabis so its not that bad. I want to buy every single one of his albums but that would take me a lifetime and I'd have to start collecting french vinyls.

3:53 pm - Creepy
So I cut my finger while cooking but I didn't even use a knife. The sharpest items I made contact with were a spoon and a skillet and suddenly my finger started spurting blood pretty badly. Perhaps I had finger stigmata or something. Someone get me a priest.

10:56 am - Food + Television = Innovation
I'm aggravated because the deliverymen who were supposed to drop off the mattress for my fold out couch aren’t anywhere to found. I'm tired of having to stay home and wait all morning just so they can come at the last possible minute loligaging and doing a half-ass job.

EDIT: Damn I spoke to soon just as I typed that they arrived. Whatever I still despise deliverymen.

So I started watching Top Chef Tuesday, which evidently isn't a great show to watch when your home sick with the stomach flu. It doesn't have the zing that PR has but it still had enough culture and style to keep me tuned in till next week at least. I'm just amazed at how beautiful some of the dishes look and sound especially the ones that are made during the quick fire challenge which is a thirty-minute immunity cook off at the beginning of each episode.

I would have never guessed that Pork Pho with Carrot Vermicelli and Herbed Peanut Candy is actually 1 pound pork butt with assorted vegetables with fish and chicken oil though. It looked so appetizing on the show but now yuck!

Ingredients:
1 five pound pork butt
4 Tbsp vegetable oil
salt and pepper for seasoning
2 onions, minced
8 garlic cloves, minced
8 Tbsp tomato paste
3 quarts chicken stock
3/4 cup brown sugar
1 cup fish sauce

Top Chef has opened my eyes to all things culinary and I found myself watching the food network late into the morning last night. One of the cooler shows that I watched on the Food Network was Ace of Cakes, a show that follows around the rebellious cake maker Duff Goldman and his friends as they do just about whatever the fuck they want with their bad ass cake company. He did everything from make a life-size flamingo cake to the aptly named "fist of rock" cake which was a wedding cake designed for a punk rocking coupling with flames, dancing monkeys, and of course a huge fist pumping the horns out the top of the thing. It kicked some serious ass.

All of this food television in mind I wouldn't mind trying out culinary school after I get my undergrad in fucking around with computers or whatever the official title is lol. I think it would be cool as hell to actually have someone sit me down and tell me what wines went good with what food and so on and so forth . . . although I'm sure being a vegetarian would kind of limit my tastes. I wouldn't mind preparing a dish with meat in it- well with exceptions of course. Oh well there are plenty of great vegetarian chefs needed somewhere.

Oh well at least I have another profession to add to my mantel of fantasy jobs.

(written on tuesday.)

So a fire broke out today in the abandoned building across the street from where I my department is. Supposedly it started in the basement of the building around 3 pm today and just started buring out of control. At first all I could see was smoke rising from the top of the building and a few fire fighters but as the hours went by flames engulphed the whole building and the fire department blocked off all of Wabash due to the possibility the building could collaps. The Fire is actually only one and a half blocks away from me in between 9th and Harrison street and is still buring actually, although they seem to have it under control. I'm just wondering who started the fire- probably some crackhead I assume.

. . . and when I said right across the street I literally meant RIGHT across the street.

CHECK OUT THE PICS! )

12:09 am - Dear Project Runway Judges,
Thank you for once I can agree with your decision! When it came down to Jeff and Mike I was about ready to lose it and throw a book across the room, but you can't just vote them off. They're fucking invincible! I can guess you did it because if you let Laura progress without Jeff or Mike you'll never be able to forgive yourselves. Uli was amazing good call. All I want is for Laura to pack up her shitty black and white cocktail dresses and go home. But then again because of you she's going to Fashion Week so I can only hope she doesn't win.

Oh Jesus, the reunion episode is next week. I can't wait to see Jeff curse at Angela and her mother. It's official; Jeff is my favorite long-necked, tattooed, asshole of a designer. I'm such a loser for Project Runway. lol
