Mwhuaaaa!  Ha. Ha.

I am pretty excited.  Mainly because I realized I can use the wireless on the school computer.

I am at a Technology conference in Monterey.  I am learning lots of super cool things: podcasts in the classroom, ePortfolios, software to make story books, etc. Today I did have one lecture I nearly slept through.  It was a lecture that was in desperate need of interaction so we could play along with what the guy was trying to show us.

I am very tired though.  I think I am going to go to sleep in a few minutes, and that will be very, very nice.

I do think I am the most reserved/ wishy-washy of the group I am with.  I am with our school's technology instructor/ world history ( I share one of my English classes with him), the art teacher, and one of the science teachers.  I am a year older than the art teacher, and the other two are old enough to be my parents.  I lost my train of thought at this point.  For the reason, see below.

This show is kinda weirding me out...America's Psychic Challenge.

Anyway, I had two goals during this trip, one is not to be hit by a car and the other is to eat clam chowder every day.  I have been successful on both counts thus far.

The time has come

I have to say the way the book was deposited on my doorstep was certainly awe-inspiring yesterday.  I saw the mail lady come, I head the bell ring, when I opened the door, she was gone.  Seriously.  Her next stop is usually across the street, I saw her not.

I then preceded to whip myself into a pre-reading frenzy. I needed to finish watching Pan's Labyrinth first,  Then I got my water and put on my sunscreen (so happy with my sunsceen! I actually found some that works) and sat outside and read.

I think I frightened neighbors,  I was laughing at some points, yelling at others, making connections very vocally, and tearing up ever so slightly at certain points.

Harry Potter related cut, spoliers guaranteed.

spoilers )

Will read again when the British edition arrives and will start reading it to Mom and Kathryn when they get home.

Until then, I think I will go see Order of the Phoenix again.  Saw it opening night at the IMAX theater.  Was most excellent. I thought they did a good job weeding it out.  And also Harry wasn't quite as whiny as he was in the book.

Ooo! Saw Hairspray on Friday.  I loved it, but felt the audience I was with and I didn't not share the same sense of humor, because I was the only one laughing at some parts.  And it is easier to laugh heartily in a crowded movie theater if others are actually laughing with you.

Also realized today my entire immediate family, except me. was in Washington this weekend.  My sister had a soccer tournament (her team won) and mom and Steve went  with her.  And my darling brother was up there picking up a car, a Suburban.  And amazingly, they were in a approximately the same area.

I believe I have talked at great length of my love of superheroes at some point in this journal.

This is a re-affirmation of my devotion to superheroes. And they stupidly had to make a show about everyday people discovering they have super powers. Stupid NBC. Now I am hooked.

Now this really was just an excuse to use my Ranma icon...another obsession...

1. Use fanfiction.net's Search Story By Summary and look up your name in either Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings.
2. If there are any Mary Sues that share your name, pick the worst-sounding one and post the summary.

Well, The first three listed with my name and no Harry Potter or LotR filter came up Harry Potter.

1) I think I am a vampire in one of them. And guess what! I have a scar, and dress punk! Go me! And my name changes to Anastasia...I think Snape wants to kill me!

2) And a very bad girl in another. However, two chapters in and I have yet to be introduced.

3) And the third would be in spanish.

There is only one under LotR, and I get to be Legolas's sister. So there! Alas, it appears I have been abandoned.

Anyway, a brief quick update before I go for the sister: Mom had her foot surgery yesterday, Print is on a Vacation, Michael explained the pay thing more clearly than Print but it still sounds awfully sneaky and I am continuing to investigate, no jobs for me in my chosen teaching profession, it seems I am destined to spend my life in the Sweet Shoppe!

He asked me later why I even brought this up and offered several explanations for me to chose from. I picked the "burnout" one. And then I layed it out for him: "I worked w, th, f, s, su, m had one day off, and was back again. One day off was not enough." I didn't add what I was thinking...which was "to recover from you" but by god, I was thinking it.

In other news Michelle's last day is Saturday. We are having an adult themed party for her at the end of August. Ali is inviting an old friend...

Harry Potter and Dr. Freud [22 Jul 2005|11:18pm]
[ mood | embarrassed ]

I mean to mention my Freudian slip of Wednesday night, but I forgot to yesterday.

I was at Stephanie's house and we were talking about inane pointless things as per usual, and Harry Potter, (my killer phrase of the evening, in mock outrage and suprise, was "Blaise Zabini is black!!!???!!" That was my response to most of the the things that we talked about that evening, mainly because I am a strange person and I was informing her of the outrage certain people have over that interesting bit of information and it was a way of simply entertaining us both.) which is not inane pointless chatter but AFFECTS EVERYDAY LIFE AS WE KNOW IT.

We were talking about snakes. I think she had told me that a sanke had been seen around her house or something, which led me to causually remark, "I hate snakes." Except it did not come out that way. That is where the Freudian slip made a play and I actually said, "I hate Snapes."

I don't think that is true, but my sub-conscious does.

I talked to my mom today and asked if she had finished the book and she said she had and that she didn't like it. See, I bet she liked the book, but hated what happened because she was convinced that it didn't need to happen.

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire is coming to IMAX. Saw preview to it before Charlie and the Chocolate Factory on IMAX. Will definately have to be seeing that.

Johnny Depp was good, but I wish it had adhered to the written version of Willy Wonka, an eccentric but not creepy Michael Jackson like...I loved Freddie Highmore, though. He was really good. And such a little cutie.

Asked Print what he thought of the movie and he went off into this tirade about characters being developed or a lack of story development and what not. The whole time he was speaking, I was looking at him and thinking that he didn't even know what he was talking about. 'Cause he seriously didn't. It was funny, but I refrained from laughing.

And I find myself irritated that people are refering to this one as a remake to the Gene Wilder one. It is not a remake...it is a different interpertation. Like the numerous versions of Pride and Prejudice. They went back to the book to make the movie...they didn't remake the movie. And this version follows the book more closely despite Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory despite the fact that Roald Dahl was a screenwriter for the first one. [/rant]

And I almost got lost in San Francisco on the way home. I recognised street names but so many of them only go one way and Stev-o was no help in this regards of trying to find our way out of the city.

Anyway, I am making James listen to the audio of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory as read by Eric Idle. I think I am going to read HBP...and once James goes to camp I will either take a nap or keep reading...still tired.

My sister won her first game (3-0) in nationals. Two more to go.

I am so damn stupid! I am going to see Charlie and the Chocolate Factory on IMAX today and I went to buy the tickets and accidently bought non-refundable ticktes for the regular show. So there went twenty bucks!

So I went back and bought tickets for the IMAX whih doesn't start until 7, which means I will be driving around the city after dark. I am feeling rather stupid right now. And I just wasted twenty bucks and had to pay $33 for two in the IMAX experience, and put them on the credit card I have been trying not to use because it was the only means of payment that would allow me to still have readily available money. And I tried to call Stephanie to tell her of my blunder but she hasn't called back yet, because now she might be able to come see it with us.

Did I mention that I am almost out of money? I think I need to go to my other bank, get some money and deposit it in my checking account to make it through the rest of the week. I am so irritated with myself.

And Stev-o wants to drive. He drives a nineteen sixty-something gas guzzling car that I don't want to have broken down in the city. I might have to talk him out of the desire to drive.

OHMYEFFINGGOD!!!!1!!!

And so was my reaction. I came home from work at about 10:30 on saturday night and promptly took my new book and read it. I finished at 4:15 am and my first reaction is the first statement in this post.

I am now re-reading it, taking it slower, making sure I read it right, and from the looks of your posts, I did. But I am commited. I should probably re-read the book at least three times this week.

and now it is my turn for spoiler fun )

Must go now. Mom and sister getting up from naps and I have not told them what happenes yet. I am reading it to them and we are only on chapter seven. Or eight...I can't remember which...don't need thme reading this over my shoulder as they tend to do.

I may have to be at LBH&G in the morning but when I get home I can just sit and read all day. This is if the mail doesn't get all fucked up. Meaning that my copy is not delievered on time. Why did I get the book through Amazon? I could have waited at midnight for it...Now I am doubting myself and thinking taht I should cancel my amazon order...I better finish re-reading Order of the Phoenix and think happy thoughts while I am at work tonight...

So disapointed. I did not sleep in yesterday. I woke up and couldn't fall back asleep. And today I took my bro to work early. I have these huge circles under my eyes, and I said I was going to go to the gym, but what I really want to do is go back to sleep.

Oh. My sister is going to Florida. Her team won that regional tournament in Boise. They only had one goal scored against them out of five games. And it was when my sister was not in...;)

Okay...I think I need to take James to camp, and then make my way to the gym. Maybe...

A Recap... [04 Jul 2005|10:42pm]

[ music | the humming of the freezer ]

My weekend:

Change salvaged from the tip jar: $49 (forty in quarters, five in dimes, four in nickels)

Hours worked: 31.5 (Friday-today...I should count yesterday as twice as long. omigod we weer so friggin' busy!)

Minutes spent talking to Am-o: 30

People on the tour I gave this morning: 4 (with one really annoying lady who was disruptive as she looked at all the furniture and interupted with questions about it as I was trying to give the door)

Corndogs eaten: 4 (A&W...$.99 each...oh yeah!)

Sodas that exploded on me when I opened them: I lost count...

Stupid/ funny customers at work: 3 [(1)one came in, got gelato, and asked where the candy section was...and was serious!, (2) Many dumped his bulk candy, Licorice Snaps, directly into the bucket rather than using a bag...claims his wife usually does this so he wasn't sure what he was doing, (3) the guy who didn't think that he could take his soda out of the store. He wasn't grasping the fact that he could take the soda, we just could not provide him with ice as we were out of cups. I felt that I might need a diagram to show him.]

Minutes before closing last night when Stev-o started to mentally crack: 13 (see the third topic of above for reason why...didn't help that we were still packed, out of pennies, and more)

Gelatos I still have to pay for: 2

Fireworks seen on this holiday weekend: 1 (sad considering that fireworks were going off in Windsor as I left work last night...and I live less than two miles from the fairgrounds in Santa Rosa)

Being able to sleep in tomorrow: priceless

So there was just a huge event on the Town Green in Windsor yesterday. Stupid Michael had to go and sponsor it. He came into the backroom as I was on my lunch, regeting his sponsorship as he told me that he had to run several of the kiddie games and showed me the back of his neck...it was bright red...sunburned! Needless to say, it was so damn busy yesterday! The whole time. I guess Print nearly had a panic attack, unfortuntely I was in the Soda Shop at this point and missed it.

I am going to bed now. It is a wonderful place to go. And I will set my alarm for like ten or something...then I will get up, clean the house and maybe go back to bed. I have plans for tomorrow...my oasis in a packed work week...

magnetism [01 Jul 2005|11:58am]
[ mood | complacent ]
[ music | none ]

I am tired.

I got up at 5:20am (about four hours eariler than I would have liked). I had to take mom and Kathryn to the airport. Kathryn has a tournamant in Boise. The options for this weekend of soccer were Boise, Las Vegas or San Diego and her flippin' team went with Boise. However, if they play well, they have a chance to go to Nationals in Florida. So Kathryn was obviously very worried about it.

I was worried about falling asleep in the car on the ride home. Which wouldn't've been good because I was driving.

I have been re-reading all my Harry Potters in anticipation. I started with the 3rd, worked my way through five, went to 1 & 2 and am back on 3. Yeah. I am kinda sad. But amused and entertained and I want a Rupert GrintRon Weasley icon that says "Animal Magnetism" [geekage]See Goblet of Fire before they go down to the Yuletide dance Seamus asks how Harry and Ron ended up with the best looking girls in the year and it is Ron's reply.[/geekage] on it. But I am lazy so it is not happening.

I test drove a VW Beetle the other day. I liked the way it felt. The time to get a car is drawing nearer. So soon, it shall happen.

4. See what color you are:

I wonder. I made a mess at the shoppe last night. I was bringing in the flower cart (we have bunches of long stemmed flower shaped suckers on it) and it fell over! On of the racks on the flower cart fell off causing hundreds of suckers that had been seperated by color to mingle. And the cart was still halfway outside the door. So I had people walking by asking, "Are you closed?" and "What happened?" and "Did it fall?"

I refused to dignify the last two with a response. I felt like I should become Bill Engvall and reply with "No, I just decided to do a thorough clean of the cart...here's your sign."

And amazingly, I have today off. And then Ali called me and asked me to come in. I decided not to. And told her so. I have been promising James that I would take him to a movie for weeks and today, by god, I am going to do it.

I also managed to lock my keys in the jeep last night. It was only the third time I have ever done that. I was distraught, I got all the way out to work and realized that I had left my lunch at home, and that I didn't have any money to get a lunch. I just called and asked the sister to check the fridge to make sure that I really had left it at home. And as I was placing my phone into the center storage unit of the jeep (because the battery just drains if I take it into work...crappy reception) I tossed my keys in there and locked the car.

I went into work and called my mom in the back room, as Michael was back there and he was laughing to himself as I talked to my mom. And then at closing I spilled the suckers...yay-ness!

Brainiest royal? Wasn't his degree in Art History? Oh wait, it says he switched to geography. I thought geography was science and it says he got his MA. How did he pull off upper second class, then? Is he actually bright?

Will someone please explain to me what the fuck is going on!?!?

In other unrelated royal news: i have to work tonight. I have not had to work a thrusday night in months. And I have to work tonight, when there is an event on the town green, which is in front of the store, and there is a film crew in the store. We are being filmed for some show for NBC. I was hoping it would be Law and Order: SVU...you know...relocated to Northern California, but instead is for some show called "In the Wine Country" or something like that. I think it is done by one of the affiliates, not the network, but Print has been telling everyone that it is NBC. I have no desire to be filmed. I hope I get there after they have all left.

I also love the fact that it is based on a true story, because then I really imagine newsboys of the past bursting into song and dance and it makes me laugh. And laugh. And laugh some more. I think I might have to go and purchase it and the soundtrack.
