Where to begin, last night was interesting to say the least. Met up with
David and Tienshiao, grabbed some food and then watched Underworld. (The movie rocked.) David's friend Dorian had told him about a party happening that night, so he gave his mobile a ring to get directions. On the voice mail was a set of directions leading to a
map point. Following the directions we arrived at some random shopping center and spotted a group of people our age hanging around by some cars. After coughing up $5 each, we received a hand stamp and these directions:
Exit Albertsons and make a right. Follow the road until you hit Antonio. Turn right on Antonio. Turn left on Ortega Hwy. Re-set your odometer and go 20.7mi. Turn right on Killens Trail (it will be your first right after the fire station.) Re-set your odometer and go 9.3 mi. (some of the road will be one way and extremely bumpy, be careful.) At the end of the 9.3mi you should see fences on the left hand side. Pass those and veer to the right. Follow it for 0.3mi and you should see us straight ahead. PLEASE BE SMART AND DONT BE A BUST!!!!For those of you not familiar with Ortega Hwy, it is a windy road that goes through Cleveland Forest and basically puts you in the middle of fucking no where. Eventually it dumps into Lake Ellsinore. It was called
slaughter alley when my mom was in high school around here because of the number of people that died driving on it. Yet, thinking this could be fun, we made a quick stop back by my house to pick up a few things and do a very expedited pre-party. Piling into the car, Tienshiao in the driver seat being the sober one, and we were off on our little adventure at roughly 11:20pm. It should be noted here that the car was riding just above empty and we decided we could make it out and back on the gas we had. With the alcohol starting to kick in a bit and feeling pretty good, it was a ways into Ortega before we started to worry. The road is scary enough to drive during the day, but worse at night with a driver that had never driven it. Did I mention the cliffs that you drive along as you climb in elevation? The 20.7 mile mark passes and we have seen no fire station and no turn. At 23 miles we turn back figuring we've missed it. No luck again and we turn around thinking maybe they were way off on the distance. We go a bit farther and come to the conclusion that we've really missed it, but needing gas we continue on to Lake Ellsinore. Some guy at the gas station had a Tomas guide so we verify that Killens Trail actually exists, it does, and with a full tank of gas we set off again.
We eventually find Killens Trail and begin the next leg of our journey. A ways out, we pass a car with two girls driving the other direction (so far the only car we've seen on this backwater road.) We take it as a bad omen that girls are driving
away from the party; we press on determined that if it is this far out in nowhere it
must be off the hook. Logical right? We did observe to each other on a few occasions: "What girl or group of girls by themselves would, in their right mind, drive way the fuck out here?" We arrive and to our disappointment our unvoiced reservations are confirmed. The party is tiny and more or less dead. There is a DJ, (playing decent music at least) and a group of people standing around listening with a single keg off to the side.

Please excuse the quality, I took it with my phone camera and it was really dark.
David's friend wasn't there, so after a bit we took off. On the way out we passed a long string of cars coming in; it was David's friend and his group. We stopped and talked for a minute, decided to go back with them and nearly doubled the size of the party. It was still lame, and colder though a new DJ had taken over and was playing quite good music. Left again, got home around 4am and I got in bed.
I should be glad I didn't die out there to some strange human sacrifice cult right?
