for gammafodder :-( http://wkbt.com/Global/story.asp?S=7963395Dungeons & Dragons co-creator Gary Gygax dies at 69 Associated Press - March 4, 2008 1:35 PM ET MILWAUKEE (AP) - The man who co-created the game Dungeons & Dragons and helped start the role-playing phenomenon is dead. Gary Gygax (GEYE'-gaks) died this morning at his home in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, about 55 miles southwest of Milwaukee. His wife, Gail Gygax, says he had been suffering from health problems for several years, including an abdominal aneurysm. Gygax and co-creator Dave Arneson developed the role-playing game in 1974 and it went on to become 1 of the best-selling games ever. Dungeons & Dragons is considered the grandfather of fantasy role-playing games and has influenced video games, books, movies and inspired legions of adoring fans. Gygax' wife says he always enjoyed hearing from the game's devoted fans about how the game influenced their lives. Copyright 2008 The Associated Press. All rights reserved. Who is that strange man ...behind the curtain. Haven't posted in a while. Perhaps I'm tired of WoW after four years and finding some free time...we'll see. Quick glance at my friends page shows that many of you still live. Good news indeed. |

email spam via lj email address Any idea how to turn off forwarding of email via my livejournal email address without giving lj a false address?
I'm getting a couple of annoying spam a day via this address and they aren't being caught by my spam filter. |

What's the best way to book a complicated vacation My folks are flying out to California and then the whole group of us are going to Hawaii. We're going to stay a week on the big island and then my folks are going to fly back with the kids and W and I will stay another week on Kauai (for our 20th anniversary). How the heck do I book something like that? I'd like us to all fly together on the same flights and I'd like to get good deals. I can't imagine any kind of prepackaged deal doing just what I want, so where do I go to get good rates? I dread trying to put together all the flight, condo, and rental car logistics. Ugh. |

Anyone heard of Dofus? My son has started playing it. I've only been looking over his shoulder a bit, but it looks like a free retro-mmo. |

I should be doing my taxes but I just needed a break.
I changed the batteries in my clock-temperture-gage thingy. It wasn't picking up the date and time right via it's radio and when I looked inside the batteries had started leaking. I cleaned it up and put in new batteries and am waiting for it to sync up with NIST in Colorado.
Does anyone else do weird things that they hate to do whenever they are faced with tasks they hate more (like taxes)? |

Now playing on a computer near me: DDO I'm now playing Dungeons and Dragons Online. I'm still playing a little wow, but not with my mains, rather with some low level characters with my kids. We'd just logged on when we got a server going down message, so swiched to some characters on gammafodder1's server. He hadn't been on for a couple days. Would have liked to say "Hi", but oh well. Anyway, DDO is quit a different beast. You pretty much have to party up all the time. I'm playing with work friends, but its hard getting all of us on at the same time. (Bloody game developers staying up till 2am). So far, at least, we're all staying near the same level so that it's fairly convenient to play together. Not sure how long that will last. This is exactly the situation I'd asked for: playing with people I already know. There's an old chinese curse (or so I've heard) that goes "Be careful what you wish for because you may get it". I'm a little unsure how this will go and whether I'll really enjoy getting what I wish. |

Would someone please remind me that WoW is down for maintainence on Tuesday mornings. I'm so disappointed when I rediscover that fact each week. |

Fishing pretty much sucks so far Sold some fish for a copper a piece, that means I'd have to fish for at least a hundred casts to get 1 silver. I'm going to acquire the cooking skill and see if cooked fish is significantly better. If not, I'll try something else to raise money. I still may try fishing in the ocean just for the heck of it though. |

Thinking about starting a second WoW character Some thoughts... Get a group of friends together and all start as a race and in a starting region that nobody has done before. No help from outside or alternate characters. "It's all us, man!"
If there is no one starting area that everyone hasn't done, then have everyone pick a combo that they haven't done (e.g. Tauren Shamen or whatever) and all but one will travel to the one's starting area, clean out that area and move to the next home area, etc.
Start a guild where everyone is exactly the same, e.g. "Guild OOM" of all mages. Sometimes unbalanced is fun.
See how much of the world you can explore without leveling up. Practice running down the very center of roads so as not to aggro wandering monsters.
Develop a sign language based on emotes, split friends between Hoard and Alliance and create a virtual guild of Alliance and Hoard characters that party up to protect each other in enemy zones and coordinate their defence using sign language.
"Pay it forward guild". Make a guild of equipment creators and just give stuff out to noobs.
Create your own class of naked monks. Play the whole game without any equipment. |

Gift Culture Ok, I quit for the night. Made it to lvl 10. Thanks for twinking me (you know who you are).
Didn't get my new daemon yet. I think I have to be level 10 and then do a specfic quest. Hopefully it's not in a new city because I have about 8 more to do in this one. I also want to go back to the very beginning and beat the shit out of the spiders in the cave.
Also, I was surprised at all the strangers helping each other out. Half a dozen times mages randomly buffed me up as they ran by. One guy was taking people's linen cloths and making them into bags (very valuable commodity) for free and others were giving away stuff they couldn't use.
Met up with a level 8 undead rogue and did some quests together. Storage space had become a problem earlier in the day (especially because I didn't know what was useful and what was not), so I sold all my leather stuff otherwise I would have given it to the rogue in my party. Who knows, he may have had better stuff anyway. At one point there was three of us when another warlock joined. Could have used a priet or other healer.
Still not sure what trade skills to take. I took up the secondary skill of fishing, bought a rod, and caught some fish. Undead are fun for this because they don't actually breath and therefore can stay underwater a long time and see if the water has any fish. |

Wow just hung on me Don't know if it's client program or the server. If the server is down I'm going to start another character on another server (for just such an occasion). |

I should have been going to my allergist I'm supposed to get shots every month, but I haven't for a long time. My allergies only bother me in the spring (and a little in the fall). I'm supposed to get shots year around, but I skipped a bunch. Last time I skipped she gave me a big lecture. I don't want the lecture and this is a stupid time to restart getting my shots since my allergies just started to flare up, but I'm think I'm going to go in this week anyway. |
