Another busy day at WorldCon.

Debbie made us pancakes yesterday morning and then I headed over to the Royal York Hotel to see concerts by Mary Crowell and Rosemary Kirstein. Mary I certainly knew about from reputation and she is a wonderful singer/piano player. Rosemary is new to the filk community, as I mentioned yesterday, and she did a wonderful selection of bluesy/folky tunes in her set.

Headed back to Deb's place to do some practising for our UT concert and then went back to the concert rooms to hear Judith Hayman's concert. It was fun to hear Judith perform some of her older songs. It was great to hear some songs I hadn't heard in quite some time. Paul Kwinn performed next and he started with a set of songs that he had entered through the years at the FKO songwriting contests. UT and Dandelion Wine provided Paul with some back-ups on "Caledonia" and Paul finished his set with a rousing version of "Dangerman" using UT, Mary, Melissa, Kathleen and Lissa as "Dangerettes". Our concert was after Paul's and we were happy with how it went.

While I was in the hall after our concert I was interviewed by a woman who works for CBC radio (Canada's national radio station). She had come to Worldon looking to make a radio documentary, possibly on weird people that attend science fiction conventions. She told me her experience over the last two days surprised her, that she didn't find the story she came for, but a different story, one of community and inspiration and she said she was especially fascinated by fandom and filking and that is where she's now angling her story. She was especially moved by the Challenger filk presentation Sally organized last night, the emotion and community she felt in the room. She's been talking to many filkers at WorldCon and she's hoping the CBC will air her project when it's finished.

Went to Shopsy's for dinner along with Deb, Jodi, Lissa, Phil and Paul, then headed back to the hotel to attend an Interfilk reception hosted by Judith Hayman. Great spread of food, great conversation. Everyone was amused when Lynn Gold presented Lissa Allcock with -12 bags- of Oreos with purple filling :). Two of Lissa's favorite things in the world are American Oreos and the colour purple.

Rand had been out for the day with Debbie's sister, Ruth, and we caught up with him when he got back. I was amused- I had written to Rand earlier in the week asking him if he had ever heard of the graphic novels, "American Splendor". I figured if anyone could lead me to where to borrow one it would be my comic book guru, Rand. He brought me four American Splendor anthologies from his own collection :). I think that should help make me quite versed in American Splendor if I can manage to get them home! :)

Urban Tapestry was responsible for a Media-themed filk circle at 11:00. Thanks to the music of Crystal Paul, Terence Chua, Gary Ehlrich, Phil Allcock, Cheryl Gere, Bob Kanefsky and Roberta Rogow, we all had a rousing good time. The media circle morphed into an open filk circle and we enjoyed the music until we headed off to bed around 1:30.

Today has been low-key so far. Jodi is doing laundry, Deb is off having breakfast with Rand. Plans are fairly free-flowing, though many of us are going to see Dandelion Wine's concert at 5:00. Since Paul has a performer circle opposite the DW concert I told him I'd babysit his video camera to tape the concert.

I'm heading home to Richmond Hill sometime mid-evening though most other folks are continuing to party on until Monday or Tuesday. Need to get home and get some rest to prepare for the first day of school on Tuesday. I'm wistful about missing Heather Dale's concert at 10:00 tonight since I enjoyed her concert so much at Ad Astra back in March, but I really need a day of downtime from the con to tackle school next week. I bought Heather's latest CD yesterday so I'll listen to her music from home.

Exercise log- I clocked in 5 miles of walking between buildings yesterday. That takes me to 374 miles and a guarantee I should have another reward shield won by the time I get home tonight. I've also been touched at the con by the folks who have approached me to sponsor me for the Terry Fox Run. Thank you, thank you so much to you all. It means a great deal to me.

Hey, that interview thing sounds neat... curious to see what'll come of it. :)

Otherwise - what a great con it sounds like, I'm glad you and the others that Katy & I lovingly consider "our" filkers are enjoying it and having such a good time! *bhigghugs*
