Sitting here in Deb's apartment about to have breakfast. We're going to have pancakes.

Started the day yesterday with a wonderful children's concert in the Convention Centre. We were joined by Eloise and Peter and a good time was had by all. Very enthusiastic group of kids and parents who sang, danced and screamed on cue. "Rattlin' Bog" was especially memorable with kids bouncing and clapping all over the room.

Had a chance to see Ingrid's and Phil's concerts after that. Phil's parody song was a hoot and I liked the LOTR song (surprise!). Wandered about the WorldCon exhibits and dealer's room after that and valiantly managed not to spend any money (yet).

After some practice time back at Deb's place we took part in a folk performer circle with Gary, Melissa, Daniel and Rosemary. Rosemary from Connecticut was new to most of us and played wonderful bluesy, folky material yesterday. She told me yesterday that she's new to filk, though she's been in the folk curcuit forever, and she was overwhelmed by how welcoming and friendly the filk community has been to her. I'm going to her concert later this morning.

Graham Leathers concert was at 8:00 and he invited the Suttons, Urban Tapestry, Kathleen Sloan and Paul Kwinn to join him on stage for a couple of songs. Great fun!

After that, we were honoured to be involved in a Columbia Remembrance and Space Celebration. Organized by Sally Headford, it involved songs about all angles of the space program sung by a number of filkers. Urban Tapestry was asked to sing "Starsoul" and Lloyd Landa's "I Am Stardust" at the request of Karen Linsley, who wasn't at the con. The concert was covered by both CBC radio and the Space Channel. The performances were wonderfully moving and inspiring.

Rand Bellavia was arriving in town late to socialize with friends, though he doesn't have a membership to WorldCon. He's rooming with Paul and Tom, so we headed up to their hotel room to hang out for a few hours before heading for back to Deb's place for the night.

Urban Tapestry has our concert today and we'll be helping provide back-up to Paul's concert in the hour before ours. We're hosting a media filk circle tonight and one hour of chaos open filk right after that.

Exercise log- Seems WorldCon is good for walking after all! I logged in 7 miles yesterday, taking me to 369 miles on the challenge. I don't expect to walk quite so far today (most of our events are at the Royal York hotel), but maybe I'll earn my next 25 miles shield by the end of the weekend. Melissa Glasser and I keep comparing pedometer/walking notes at the con, which is fun :).

Note: I notice I'm not using a lot of last names in these con reports. I figure the filkers out there know these people and others will be satisfied with first names :). I also notice I rarely use folks' LJ names in my entries. Can't get used to that and I hope I will be forgiven.
