Meals at cons are always fun because it gives you a chance to mix and match your company to get some fun times with friends you don't see nearly often enough. Being in Boston there was one thread that ran through most of my major meals- seafood.

We were lucky that the Boskone hotel was linked to a mall, so there was a very convenient food court situated for most of our meals. It was a good place to duck out to when you had four panels in a row and then just an hour's breathing space before your next con commitment (like UT faced on Sunday :)). Good food at the food court, too. It was there that I had my first bowl of Boston clam chowder at the Chowda House. I know the locals must be horrified I had my first cup of chowder from a fast food stand, but it was really good chowder! The food court also had an excellent bakery/cafe that made terrific customized scrambled eggs at really reasonable prices, so that was our standard breakfast for the weekend. We enjoyed sharing a quick meal with Gary and Sheryl in the food court on Sunday afternoon, too.

Saturday night Jodi, [info]jewelsong and I ventured out a bit further. It had been our intention to go to "The Cheesecake Factory", which was also in the mall, but the 90 minute waiting time for a table sent us off to a rather more surreal eating experience, instead- "Dick's Last Resort". Dick's Last Resort is a Boston bar notorious for its "unique" atmosphere and service. The staff is encouraged to treat the customers with surly exaggerated attitude, rolling their eyes and professing martyrdom when asked for an extra fork or serving of coleslaw one minute, throwing napkins around the room the next and making funny paper hats for customers the next. It's pretty bizarre stuff, but once one gets into the spirit of things or has a glass or two of red wine it becomes goofy fun. I had crab cakes and red-skinned mashed potatoes (popular in Boston restaurants) and they were both delicious. The three of us had a really good time. The photo above is from that meal.

On Sunday night Debbie, Jodi and I and Paul Estel ( [info]happyfunpaul )finally got into The Cheesecake Factory, though it was still a 65 minute wait. Worth it, though, for the excellent meal and the fun company. I had herb-crusted salmon with a salad of greens, some delicious cinnamon tea and, of course, two pieces of amazing cheesecake shared between the four of us.

Al in all, having checked the scale when I got home, I don't think Weight Watchers is going to be all that happy with me this week. It was worth it, though :).

Next up: Boskone.

Enquiring minds want to know...which cheesecakes did you get?

And I see y'all took my advice about splitting the slices... 8-)

I don't quite remember the cheesecake names but one was a white chocolate chocolate mousse something or other and one was a chocolate cookie dough something or other.

And, yeah, it's a good idea we only got two pieces for the four of us. Even then, we didn't finish the two pieces :). They were extremely yummy, though.

More jealous than ever.

But happy you guys had a good time!

Ah, it's OK, we can both be jealous this week because Jewel is in -Florida- :). It's really, really cold here in Toronto today...
