Ack, watching the live election coverage is too nerve-wracking, so I have fifteen minutes to kill before Jon Stewart's coverage kicks in at 10:00. I'll write some Friday OVFF memories.
- Flying from Toronto into Columbus with Interfilk guest, Heather Dale. I am a huge fan of Heather's music and have been lucky enough to see her in concert a few times in Toronto, so it was really nice to have a long talk with her on the plane and get to know her a bit better.
- The Mad Hatter Tea Party. Traditionally, OVFF has this social at the beginning of the con so we can all re-connect again. I had been asked a few weeks earlier if I'd wear a "New to filk? Talk to me!" t-shirt during the party, so that newcomers could have some experienced filkers to meet during those early stages of the con. I had some lovely conversations with people like Sharyn, who was new to OVFF. And being that Sharyn told me she might be too shy to share her songs at the con, it was wonderful to hear her singing her songs in the Sunday night circle! I so remember being that filker too shy to sing at OVFF, so it was good to see she was braver than I was at my first OVFF! :) I also had lots of friends complimenting and giving me advice about my new camera, which got its first major workout at OVFF.
- The Pegasus Concert. All of the songs on the Pegasus nomination ballot were performed and there were some absolutely stellar performances from folks like Bill Roper, Tom Smith, Kathleen Sloan, Cat Faber, Katy, Ju and Steve, Alisa, Paul and Seanan, Marty Faber, Joe, Ookla The Mok, Erica Neely, Andy Eigel, (I will add to this list as the other names come to me). UT was also honoured to perform Jodi's nominated song, "The Lady", which would go on to win the Best Song Pegasus award on Saturday night. I was also fascinated and enchanted to watch Judi Miller do sign language to many of the songs- it was as beautiful as a dance. It was announced that Judi is the Interfilk guest for FilKONtario next year, which is really wonderful.
- Spending some quality time catching up with Paul and Beckett late Friday night. Fun, emotional and never long enough.
More tomorrow... I'm heading back to the election coverage.
