FIrefly Ambulance Update
This is partially a test, to see if the Firefly fan community is still lurking about… the owner has named a price.

Before we even worry about it, though, what the hell can we do with it now? It’s not a horrific price, as far as things go… but we would need a rig to move it with (the owner used an 18’ trailer) and someplace to take it…

If anyone has any ideas, I’m all ears. Now that I’ve found the owner, and he has named a price, I’m kind of at a loss…

Heh… if this hasn’t made it’s way to any of the fan boards by tomorrow, I’ll start posting myself. In the meantime… just finished a ten hour shift… need to go to bed… if I’m lucky, I’ll get to sleep for five hours… and then go work another shift… *mutters about agreeing to go in on his day off, even though he’ll be paid well for it*

Hmmm, I wonder if people would donate if you set something up through paypal.
Even if people just gave a buck or 2, you could really raise some money.

Are Firefly fans altruistic enough to donate...just to ensure the ambulance stayed in good hands?

hugs

Well, remember that it's not really my backyard... if the landlords would allow it, the wall would have to be torn down and a gate installed... and then there are the hellions dogs to worry about... I suspect that they would greatly enjoy chewing on fiberglass...

Well I'm not a Firefly fan myself (sacrilege, I know, never even saw the show) but good luck with getting all your ducks in a row re: the ambulance plane. I've been ordered to take pics if I can, when I come to Cali, for my friend who is a fan.

I'd donate a few dollars through PayPal. It sure would make a cool lawn ornament. :-)

You really don't think Browncoats wouldn't help?

Hell, they'd chip in to make "Serenity" sequels if Universal wouldn't put down the whole about Joss needs.

As for where it goes, now that is a mystery.

Give it to Joss!

Of course, he probably didn't want it, which is why it ended up in a junkyard in the first place.

Joss would've kept the entire original set if he could've.

I'd chip in a few bucks, lol. If only we had someplace to put it.

I suggest talking with [info]waywardbound, [info]pimpcook or [info]gryphonlsb since all three were big into the charity events and Browncoat booth down at Comicon... [info]waywardbound actually ran the auction. They might have some contacts that would be interested. :)

Seems like contacting the Hollywood or Science Fiction museums might be worthwhile; I know some folks over on Whedonesque pointed out that the SFMuseum doesn't have room right now, but I know they have a warehouse of stuff they're just waiting to rotate. Might not be ideal in the short term, but at least in the longterm it would be somewhere better.

I do still like the idea of a mobile blood donation 'van', and would happily donate towards that end. Maybe spec out what it would cost to rent an 18' trailer for a day (assuming you can't find a Firefly fan who owns/drives one and will donate the time).

Best of luck, and I certainly hope something awesome comes from this.

So figure out costs to buy it, the rental truck to move it, and a storage garage to stash it for at least two months, and you've got your donation target.

After the movie breaks records, talk to the museums...

At one point, a group here was working on a fundraiser that used a blood drive as a part of the appeal. The local Red Cross (or other blood bank, I'm not sure) let us use their logos and said they would come set up the trucks to collect the blood, and we were going to have a Vampire Live Action game to raise the money a portion of which went to the blood bank along with the blood. It'd be the kind of event you'd probably want to work on putting together with an existing con (or multiples across the country), but it might be worth looking into?

If you really want to do this, I'm in for $20.00. Maybe more if the $$$$ really start rolling in.

Seems to me that if you do agree on a deal, the dealer might rent you space coincidentally right where it sits now for short term storage, while you find a place to put it.

I'm a little far away to actually help with the sweaty grunting stuff but I'll bet some browncoat has or has access to a semi w/flatbed trailer for a weekend. If not, you can rent one from Hertz. Perhaps if you timed it right after or right before a con, you could get a volunteer crew together. The crucial item seems to be a long term storage location. If we can stash it somewhere short term, and the BDM is a hit, Universal might display it at one of their theme parks.

How big do you 'spose Joss's back yard is?

I think we would could pool enough money ($1 at a time!!) to buy it and transport it to Seattle to the SF Museum.

Of course it's not the greatest piece of Firefly memorabilia ever made, but I think the project of buying and transporting of the item would in itself would be a testament of the Browncoat spirit.

Let's git 'er done!!! :-)

Yes, having a rough idea of exactly how much will be needed for this project to work would definitely give Firefly fans more reason to donate.

Ambulance

(Link)
I mentioned on the Browncoats board, i have access to a truck and trailer to haul it and own land to store it. It is a long drive(FL), but maybe some others would meet me halfway. I am also willing to pitch in on the cost of buying.

Put the Bedlam Bards down for a few bucks

(Link)
I'd love to see this in good hands. If there was absolutely nowhere else to put it, you could put it on my land--I own six and a half acres. But I'd rather not have it on my land; I'd rather see it in a museum, like the one in Seattle. Just imagine, they could build a whole Firefly exhibit inside it. Then I could pose for an album cover next to it. ;-)

Question

(Link)
Comin' in real late here. Is the talk aimed at conserving/preserving this piece of history in general or a particular person saving it? If it's the former, I know of someone who might be interested. If I can track him down, who should he get in touch with? He's collecting/preserving SF memorabilia aiming to opening a showplace for it.

Re: Question

BTW: Just to add a bit to this - I'm not talking about Paul Allen's place in Seattle. This is another collector who I had a chance to speak with at a convention I went to last month up in Canada. He's a friend of Paul Brown who owns 'Legends Memorabilia' [and no - it wouldn't be parted out or sold]. He and his Lady Wife are friends of Paul, et all.

I have a HUGE backyard and it's mine, BUT

(Link)
It's in Santa Barbara County, Solvang to be exact. My backyard is one hundred feet by 70 feet. I'd be happy to donate, but we really do need a price. So what is going on with the Air Ambulance?

On the official Browncoats/Serenity site I am BUZZRAMJET.
