First two pages of my freshly-opened Moleskine cahier, with original characters and The Clone Wars' populating the space.

Oh who would've thought that I would one day draw Whineykins? But a friend advised "Just think that Hayden Christensen has NOTHING to do with this incarnation!", and I do have to admit that it makes the process much easier :P
My parents are going to Jakarta today, and it'll be a long weekend over here because of Wesak Day on Monday. Paaaaaaaaah-tay XD

Dude, I've delayed so many post-worthy stuff for too long. Still will delay on Japan experience, though...it's pretty massive to compose in one sitting.

- 2 hour delay, so arrived at 9am instead of 7am.
- The weather is 12 degrees celcius; It feels like it's air-conditioned all the time @_@ Contemplating wearing my wool jacket soon.
- I noticed that the Japanese I see are quite image-conscious...very pretty and trendy girls walk around, even schoolgirls in the small towns. And the guys. So. Many. Cute. Guys. (I felt so guilty ogling at one terribly cute high school kid at one train stop.) Until I stepped into Akihabara, ha!
- Speaking of Akihabara, popped a bit into Yodobashi Camera because my dad wanted to buy a new digicam. IT'S A BIIIIIIIIG STORE. WITH SO MANY ELECTRONICS.
- Had a really nice Tempura lunch at Tenya.
- Probably will pick up a bento or something before I go back to the hotel for the night.
- Tomorrow, Disneyland and Disneysea :D

Haroo minna-san,
I'm going to fly off to Japan at 11 tonight for a week-long family vacation. I will definitely stuff myself with fresh sushi and sashimi, take lotsa Japanezy pictures, and try to smuggl---ahem---import doujinshi :D
In the mean time, I leave this notice for Malaysian artists to ponder on...(also helping out the Project Manager who keeps asking us for recommendations since production is kicking into high gear)
STORYBOARD ARTIST WANTED FOR SALADIN THE ANIMATED SERIES!!
Sample footage (Bahasa Malaysia version)
General Duties and Responsibilities:
Work closely with director to develop storyboard based on script given Receive written and verbal descriptions of a sequence from the Director Draw storyboards that depict the action, camera placement, and acting of the characters in that sequence Present the storyboards to the director and other members of the team Create new drawings to fix and change sequences throughout the production process
Background, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required at Minimum: Excellent illustration and visual storytelling skills Ability to transform script (English) to drawing board Ability to create story ideas and options to story ideas Excellent Composition and presentation skills Ability to present work in a clear and entertaining way Entertaining acting ideas Strong layout and design skills Strong, communicative draftsmanship Ability to work quickly, when necessary Ability to work collaboratively Basic knowledge of film is required, including language, acting, and craft Basic Photoshop experience recommended, but not required
To Apply for this Position: Please submit in soft copy, your cover letter, current resume and sample artworks (in .jpeg) or url of your online portfolio to Desmond Lee, the Project Manager of the series at desmond(a)saladin(dot)tv. Short listed candidates will be called for interview.
Personal notes: - For comic artists, it's a position that's not too challenging to adapt to because of similar disciplines. If you're a film buff, even better. - Nice environment to work in, reasonable hours, TWO-DAY WEEKEND!! XD - Working with an incredibly talented pool of artists is inspiring. - The only place I've been where I can do display my acting (non)prowess in voice-overs for animatics with each new episode. - It's an office full of GEEKS >:D Movie debates happen quite often as we work. - I have yet to stoop to begging my parents for money ;D - Perhaps the only downside is that the Pre-Production studio is in Cyberjaya. But it shouldn't be a problem for those with cars. And even if you don't, car-pooling is an option if you stay in nearby areas.
Okay. Must continue with last minute packing. Toodles!

Last Sunday, Masakazu Morita, the seiyuu for Teru Saeki, came down to Malaysia to be the Special Guest of GACC'08.
After spending 2++ hours writing up the experience on my blogger site, I'm too exhausted to do the same in LJ, sorry T_T
So please head on over to aimostudio.blogspot.com and read the latest post for Morita-san goodness (scroll down to Day 2 for the loot!).
In short, he was worth travelling inter-state for XD

Are any of you joining us again for 2008? We're trying to arrange for accommodations, so give a shout out if you'd like to bunk with the old crew again. Thanks! Also, do forward this to the peeps who are non-LJers just so they know there's a headcount going on.

To those who commented in the last post, thank you for the kind words! I didn't announce my participation in the set before because I wanted to make sure I finished all the cards allocated to me (also I was still in disbelief that I got in :P). I'll be getting 6 of my cards back, but I'm not sure what to do with them yet (either I keep 'em, have private sale, or auction them at ebay)...if I'm not mistaken, the card packs go on sale in Feb 20. If you're lucky you can snag many wonderful artist sketchcards then. One more update of the other half of my cards, then I should go pack my clothes...

I'll be offline until Sunday because I'll be at my grandparents' for Lunar New Year celebrations. So until then, Happy Lunar New Year everyone :D

So, back in December, I've been annoying my RL friends by whining about things like how few hours there are in a day, why is the month moving so fast, why wasn't I born with eight hands, etc...
It's all because of of official sketchcard work! Thanks to gdg, he helped me get into the Topps LOTR Masterpieces II gig, in which I drew 206 cards for. I got 205 approved (one scrapped due to a typo on my part...I FEEL SO SCHTOOPID T_T), so I am posting them up here for your viewing pleasure. It was definitely a cool experience, if a bit nerve-wracking, because I tried to make a point of getting the movie likenesses of the characters I draw in my own style which is pretty much a heavily stylistic one. I re-watched the Extended edition of the trilogy so many times for reference, and I feel I renewed my appreciation for the film masterpiece in the process. Fun times!

You can preview a batch under the cut. ( Getcher Topp's LOTR Masterpieces II Cards preview right here, folks! PART 1 ) More to come later :D

...unless I get uncharacteristically hardworking on the 31st :P
Anyway, December was a busy month for me. Lots of work and commissions, interspliced with bouts of anime-watching and gaming. I have several statements of truth to impart to you, dear reader:
1) Gurren Lagann is the best anime series I've seen in a looooooong while. Great animation (except for episode 4), memorable characters, quirky giant robots, and excellent build-up of EPICNESS in 27 eps. Half-hours had never been so much fun.
2) Never ever procrastinate with sketchcards. Especially when there's 206 of them that needs to be finished in a month.
3) I finished Mass Effect once as a Paragon Vanguard (Raena Shepard), and now playing again as a Paragon Infiltrator (Roy Shepard) and a Renegade Soldier (Nona Shepard). A very ambitious RPG, and even though some elements could be better improved on, overall it's a solid and enjoyable game. And I'm proud to say I suck less in 360-style shooting :P Speaking of which, fanart time :D
Below is a wallpaper I made for Bioware's community contest (but I can't seem to upload though :/ Downtime or the server doesn't like me?). I wanted to go for a Cowboy Bebop-esque motif with the squad members posing as cool cats, but I think using screentone was a mistake since it comes out foooglay when stretched. Flats would've been a better idea, le sigh. Oh well! Knowing is half the battle...
Get the 1600x1200 JPEG here (908k)
4) Assassin's Creed arrived two days ago but I have yet to play it. I don't know if I wanna risk the last days of the year under a game haze...
5) Tomorrow I'm gonna karaoke like there's no tomorrow with my peeps to mark 2007's end. Mandatory song will definitely be Dragonforce's Through the Fire and the Flames :D

*deep breath*
It's...such a relief; This episode was very good. It definitely helped to soothe over the roughness in "The Awakening" and "The Painted Lady", and wash the blight that was "The Beach".
It's the first episode this season that actually made me feel sad :( But in that awesome way. Kudos to the team that handled this episode, because I especially loved the montage sequences that showed so much without the need to overexplain what was happening. All those subtle shots and actions, they were well-chosen to maximize the intended effect within available airtime.
And seriously, the Avatar was HOT ;)
EDIT: I just discovered why the writing for The Beach was so subpar. Oh my gooooooooooooood *headdesks* My roomie was actually laughing at my reaction to the discovery T_T
