| | I Lost You - The Walkmen | ] | Around 1 am we heard an explosion, and went walking around to try to find what it was. I could just barely see my breath as leaves crunched under our feet in the cool night.
Fall.
Carpal tunnel makes it hard to type, hence my lack of updates. It's been a week of appliances breaking (washer, dryer, toilet, water heater) and the weather slowly getting colder. New freshmen are pretty cool. Game night this weekend and Ali's coming down. Good stuff.
I'm in rigging, which is pretty cool but going kinda crazy. And talking to Drew at the same time. So I'm off! |

So after much deliberation, I bought it.

In short, lens kicks ass. Also, carpal tunnel both hands, so not so much on the computer lately, except for work.
Think I should upgrade Flickr to a pro account? |

| | sick | ] | For some reason, I haven't been able to shake this...whatever it was that I caught. I'm not hallucinating with a fever anymore, but I'm still coughing/sneezing/feeling cruddy. I have no idea why, I guess this is just one of those bugs that holds on and fights hard. Uhg.
My mom randomly sent me GH Aerosmith, which was quite an awesome surprise. I guess I had mentioned something about wanting it when I was home for the 4th...my mom's awesome. I know a lot of people are complaining about the GH franchise, but honestly, I think it's a fun game. I liked the track listing - it wasn't the greatest, but it was a lot of stuff I hadn't heard before, and there were a lot of non-Aerosmith songs as well. There's a new mode in this one called "precision mode" aka "you'd better be fucking good mode," which is nifty. Overall it was pretty easy - I beat the game without getting less than 4 stars on only about 5 songs, and 5s on the rest, but there's still replay value - you really have to beat it on every difficulty in order to unlock everything. My only real complaint was that for some reason the game seems to be dropping notes a lot - the original GH3 for PS3 had horrible issues with timing, and I found myself getting insanely better scores on the Wii and Xbox versions. They fixed the timing in this version, but for some reason there seems to be a lot of hitting a note and then getting it dropped. Hmmmmmmmm.
Weekend was good - saw Dark Knight, which everyone is raving about, and I'm predicting that Heath Ledger gets an Oscar for his role, because damn.
I still haven't seen Dr. Horrible, just haven't really had time, and I know the site's down but I'm sure it'll still be avaialble somewhere. I really want to find out if it is so called "better than Firefly."
One of the things that's nice about the bay is that the mornings are usually cloudy and cool; I'm looking out the window and the sky is grey! Grey skies in July make me quite happy, though we haven't had any rain yet and we definitely got some last year. Stupid California being in a drought.
I gotta head to class pretty soon - I missed both days last week, so I really need to be there. |

I've long been a fan of Old Technology, so naturally I had a Betamax player that I'd kept around for years. However, when I finally got a hold of tapes for the damn thing, I found it wouldn't play back at all, it instead ate the tapes. So I put in a request at the local warehouse of awesome for them to hold a Beta player for me if they ever got one in. About two months later, I got a phone call saying that they received a tested WORKING player, so today, we brought it home.
These aren't my photos, because I'm currently sick and therefore being lazy.

The model number is Sony SL-8200 - apparently, the first and only Beta player ever made with two recording speeds, to allow for two hours of recording, as opposed to one, which was where Beta was losing to VHS. It was introduced in 1977, so not only is it 31 years old, but it's HUGE - we're talking massive. I'm guessing it weighs a good 50 pounds, and it's the size of a small child. It's awesome.
I did some net digging and found that it retailed for about $900 when it was introduced, and to buy the same model today is the same price, apparently - couldn't find this one on eBay, only from serious collectors. The downside is, while it plays anything that's L-500 speed and under, the newer speed B3, introduced only a year later, won't play back on it. I'm not sure what the standard is for home video, but I'm hoping I'll be able to get a hold of some tapes (things like Star Wars, etc.) that'll be playable.
And now, back to concept arting, and hoping I'll be well enough for work tomorrow. |

| | Control - Poe | ] | I'm sitting at school waiting to hear back from Boeing, and until we do there's nothing to work on, so damn. I can't even clock in until we hear back, and who know when that will be. It's kinda boring.
Anyway, game night is this weekend, which will be AWESOME because the theme is retro games, so there will be a Duck Hunt and Dr. Mario Tournament, both of which I'm decent at. I played a bit of Dr. Mario yesterday for the first time in about a billion years, and did okay, though Rob handed my ass to me on a platter.
Guitar Hero Aerosmith comes out tomorrow, and while I was against the game for quite a long time, I'm going to buy it, the main reason being that I need a new guitar anyway, and if I'm going to shell out $60 for one, might as well pay another $10 or so for the game. And it's not all Aerosmith, fortunately. I know, I'm lame.
9*12 Intuos 3 tablets are pretty much the awesome. Wish these computers had oC or painter instead of just Photoshop :/ |

| | good | ] | Happy Belated Solstice! In the chaos of things, I completely forgot about it...oops.
It's cooled down here, so we're not dying in 95 degree weather (I know, I know, compared to Sacramento and other places where it's 110 and such it's nothing, but I've been living in the Bay for a year, I've lost my immunity) so huzzah for happy coolness! Still going to buy a fan or something though, because I do not want to be unprepared for the next heatwave. Noooooo.
Had a dream last night, and I don't remember any specifics, but I remember it was like I was going through my life and correcting a bunch of little mistakes I'd made. It was really bizarre though - some of the things were really meaningless, like test scores, while others were telling people much more important things or doing something that actually would change the course of things. It was really interesting.
Hookay, gotta get stuff done before work! |

It is 93 degrees in our house. I am so close to just shelling out for a portable air conditioner, because I can barely think. That, and I think the computers and PS3 are suffering from overheating :/
Oh, Get Smart is HILARIOUS. |

Last Friday we were supposed to go to San Francisco to do photography. We had been planning it all week, then got up, and both decided "ehh" and stayed home. I found out yesterday that the train we would have been on collided with another train.
Thanks guardian angel person daemon thing, I owe ya one.
Also, photodump from the second day of road trippin'. These are from back when I still had no idea what my camera could do, so they're not to pretty, but oh well. 'tis all about the memories.

[Jun. 11th, 2008|10:25 pm] |
Been busy lately, mostly because I found out Nathan is in town for the week and I started work this past Monday. But anyway-
( Road Trip Photos, day one )
So this week has been a lot of fun, mostly because Nathan is here, which I found out on Sunday. Monday night Stefen, Andrew and I went over to where he was staying with friends and hung out, and last night we tried to get a big group over here (which mostly failed) and just hung out, played Rock Band, and watched the Meaning of Life (thank you, John Cleese, for existing), and talked about everything from Linux to Amsterdam. Also traded some music, and I got some really kickass stuff - mostly things that I've been looking for and was never able to find/songs I didn't know who the artist was. Good times.
Work is...good. Can't say much more than that, except we started on the cool stuff today, so basically the non-introductory things. Really really cool things. Mmmmmmmyep.
My goal is to do some character model packets for Lythium, and I talked to my drawing for animation teacher to get some feedback on my final (which is really shitty looking back at it :/), so I'm going to try to start on that once photos get edited and sorted out. Right now things are awesome because I don't have to worry about homework, but I have a feeling that class starts rather soon (June 21st, maybe) which will make me busy again, and that's no fun. Oh well.
GH2 time. |

Last night we went out for Japanese food with some friends at a really cool place - we even got a tatami room! It was a lot of fun, and the food was pretty good and pretty authentic. Then Ivan, Razvan, and Andrey came over and we all made fun of Deja Vu, which is an...interesting movie.
Today we're going to head over to Shoreline park later and do some photography, and until then we'll probably just hang out and play videogames, in the true spirit of...us.

| | hungry | ] | So, I learned today that a friend of mine who graduated last August and ended up going to the Netherlands was the rigger and did some of the animation for this little gem, (only about 10 minutes long or so) which you can actually watch here or download at the main site. This honestly is, as far as animation goes, amazing. Why? It's done ENTIRELY in Blender, a completely FREE, open source 3D modeling and animation program, that also has rigging, rendering, editing, compositing, fur and hair capabilities. Looking at this is proof that this sort of software could be used for major productions.
Also, if you want to see a rather ridiculous tour in the style of Nathan, you can do so here, believe me, it's hilarious and definitely worth the 12 minutes. I miss that guy. |
