Holy Cow it got cold here! It was warm this morning but the temperature dropped after lunch. I was freezing my ass off all night!
High winds + light drizzle + outdoor duty = 1 cold solider!
It has been unusually warm for this time of year here, hopefully this means winter is finally here. I love winter the rain, fog, overcast days.. goooood stuff!
Thoughts and prayers to Mune...

It has been forever since I last updated.. I have just not felt up to it for so long. I have been pretty busy it seems as of late, the life of a solider is pretty erratic. Have been through some cool training in the past few weeks, but mostly I have been working checking people's IDs as they come on to the base. The coolest training was getting Combat Lifesaver qualified, which allows me to give people IVs! It was pretty cool training.
Pretty boring stuff checking IDs.. "How you doing?" Look at the id. "Thank you, have a good day!" then on to the next one. One does this for TEN hours a day.. You get pretty bored. The only saving grace is that you get frequent breaks. I bought a Game-boy just for the breaks, keeps me somewhat sane. It pays pretty well but if I was going to be activated I would have rather gone over seas to Iraq or Afghanistan. I think it would make me feel more productive at least. I guess someone has to stay home and hold the fort..
The coolest thing happened to me the other day. I was guarding some fighter jets and there was a mix of 50 rabbits and prairie dogs just sitting out in the open munching on stuff not really paying attention. I saw this huge Red tailed hawk swoop down and nab a prairie dog! I walked over pretty close (15 meters or so)to see him munching on this dog, all he did was look at me and went back to enjoying his meal. I watched until he finished and he then took off and landed on a nearby Airplane tail about 12 feet of the ground. Now I was feeling pretty bold and I decided to see how close I could get to him before he flew off. I was able to get with in 8 feet of him!! He just looked down at me every now and then and sat there looking around! It was pretty neat to be that close to a totally wild Raptor. I know what Stormdancer feels like now. Alas this was not the coolest part of this story. The coolest thing was when he started to preen himself. He got to his left wing and there was a white and black primary kinda sticking out of place. He pulled it out, looked me dead in the eye, and dropped it! It landed a few feet away from me! I picked it up and he went back to preening, he flew off a little while later. It was pretty cooool!
But it is time for bed now.. More stories latter. I am gonna try and make myself post more often.

I Am A: Chaotic Good Human Fighter Ranger
Alignment: Chaotic Good characters are independent types with a strong belief in the value of goodness. They have little use for governments and other forces of order, and will generally do their own things, without heed to such groups.
Race: Humans are the 'average' race. They have the shortest life spans, and because of this, they tend to avoid the racial prejudices that other races are known for. They are also very curious and tend to live 'for the moment'.
Primary Class: Fighters are the warriors. They use weapons to accomplish their goals. This isn't to say that they aren't intelligent, but that they do, in fact, believe that violence is frequently the answer.
Secondary Class: Rangers are the defenders of nature and the elements. They are in tune with the Earth, and work to keep it safe and healthy.
Deity: Tymora is the Chaotic Good goddess of luck and good fortune. She is also known as Lady Luck, and also Tyche's fair-tressed daughter. Followers of Tymora believe in the tenent that, 'Fortune Favors the Bold,' and will throw caution to the wind and trust to luck to work things out for the best. Tymora's symbol is an unmarked silver disk.

At 0015 (fifteen minuets after midnight) 59 years ago today, Allied paratroopers landed in German held territory kicking off one of the largest invasions in history. We now know this invasion as D-day. It involved over 150,000 servicemen. Over 4,000 of these brave men would not live to see the next day. Their sacrifice opened the door for a campaign that would last another year. A long campaign to rid the world of a murdering madman, a campaign that would ultimately succeed.
I write this in memory of all the soldiers who never got to come home, who never got to see their families again, and who never got to hold their wives and girlfriends again. I will not let your sacrifice be forgotten…
Let us all remember.

12:14 pm - "It's a hot mother up here.."
|
Well yesterday was really interesting..
Got up at 3:30 am to be in to work at by 4:30am. Got to work and went to my briefing on what I would be doing. SPOTER for the Presidents sniper team! (A spotter is the guy that looks for targets and tells the sniper how far away the target is.) It was pretty cool! I was up on a roof about 150 meters from the Pres. and Air Force 1. The roof was pretty hot and I wad up there from 8:45 till a little before 1 looking for bad guys. Didn't see any but it was just a cool job to be doing! They gave me the rest of the day off after the Pres. left so that was nice. I tell you what thought, as soon as I got home around 3pm I crashed hard. I was really really tired. Slept till almost 9 PM woke up for an hour or so and crashed again.
The sniper guys were pretty cool, nice guys to work with. I asked them about how hard it was to get a job with the secret service and they said it was pretty easy. All you need is a college degree. They also said some "life" (military or law enforcement) experience would looks good on your resume. So that is something I might be trying for here in a few years after I graduate form college! They said the pay was good but you get almost no time off. One of the snipers said he had only one day off in two months. Long hours, but I think it would be worth it...

The second coolest thing in the world happened to me last night at dinner.
I had just gotten off of work and I was still in uniform when I went over to my borther's place to just hang out for a bit. After hanging around a bit we were both getting a little hungry so we decided to go out and eat. I didn't go home to change because it would have been an hour and half before I could be back over to my borther's place. So we went to the Chiles right around the corner form his place, it was cool just to spend time with my brother. Well after our food came and we started eating the family that was sitting across from us got up to leave. The father came over to our table and placed 20 bucks on the table and said that dinner was on him. Now this was pretty cool in its self, but what he did next really choked me up. I said thank you and as he shook my hand he said "Thank you for fighting for my freedom."
Now this might seem like a small trivial thing to you all, but you may never know how much that meant to me. Its even hard for me to explain how it feels. It fills my heart with such joy, pride, and thanks... Seven little words... ^__^

They took pictures of my friends and I while we were playing paintball a couple weeks back. I am the guy running.
It was a lot of fun, but it was pretty cold as you can see from all the snow. It had snowed the day before we went to play and the field is about 15 min. up into the mountains. It was funny only 4 other guys showed up besides my two freinds and I. It made for a small but fun game.
I love playing paintball...

Let me explain my last post as it got some of your wound up. I fully support people right to protest. If you want to protest the war go for it!
Just dont break the law while you are doing it. I.E. blocking traffic, throwing things at the cops, spray the cops with mace, try and get on to a military instalation and chain yourself to a fighter plane..
Learn all the facts before you go out there. Don't do it because its the "cool" thing to do. Be able to support your ideals and views.
The thing that angers me is that if I was walking across the street from a protest I am fairly certain that I would be called obscene names, spit on, have things thrown at me, or even beat up. WHY!? Because I am serving my country? because I am in a Military uniform?
I, AND MY BROTHERS AND SISTERS IN THE MILITARY WILL GIVE OUR LIVES UP FOR YOU IF NEED BE!
*pant pant pant*
*settles down and continues in a calm voice* Now I am not saying that everyone that goes to a protest are doing bad things and breaking the law. I think that most have the best intentions. But the ones that get violent and break the law are giving the rest of you bad names!
You all say you support our troops but protest the war. So what have you all done to support them? I support them when I go to work everyday. My national guard unit was activated to guard the local Air Force base because all of thier troops are now overseas. I will be doing this for a year, maybe even two. What have you done?
Have you put yellow ribbons up? Written a letter to a soldier? Sent a care package? Put up american flag? Posted a sign saying you support our troops? Simple little things you can do that would bring so much joy to a soldiers heart. It is hard to explain how much little things like these mean to soldier.
So if you want to protest, by all mean do so. It is your right as an American to make your voice heard. Just do it in a truly PEACEFUL way.
I will close with a qoute that was written a long time ago that I hold very dear and close to my heart.
"I do not agree with what you say, but I will give my life in defense of your right to say it..."

I found out there is going to be an Anti-War Rally at the local Air base here tomorrow. It is the same base that I am going to be guarding. I fully support people’s right to protest but I have this really bad feeling that they are going to vent their political frustrations on the soldiers and Airmen at the base. The guards have no say in what they are told to do; they are just doing their jobs. If you are going to protest the war go to city hall or the state capitol where the guys that make the decisions are, not the Air base where people are just trying to do their jobs..
It just makes me sick to think that the guy that is just serving his country because he thinks it’s the right thing to do is proply gonna take the brunt of the protesters angst. Ahh.. I am rambling..

Stupid unit.. We have just been sitting around doing nothing for the past TWO days! I hate that so much! We could be doing all sorts of stuff, training, paper work, medical stuff, but no.. We are just given busy work and kept there till 6:30pm every night when we could have been out of there by lunch.
They did tell us in a briefing after lunch today that they don't know whats going on. It seems that they only received notice that we /might/ be getting activated with in a week or two of Jan 3, but they don't know anything for sure. So I am still in the dark about whats going on, its one of my biggest pet peeves KEEP YOUR GUYS INFORMED! If you don't, rumors start to fly around and then guys get scared and ancy. Its just bad for morale. Your guys need to know whats going on. They did tell us that if we do get activated that we should be going to a post in TX for two weeks to get some training and such, that some of us might get shipped to guard other bases in the state instead of the base here in town. That would kind of suck.. just dont know..but hey, its a hazard of the job..
Update when I learn more..
