- Buster’s - 1800 S. Milton Rd. - 774-5155 - Fresh fish and shellfish and prime cuts of steak are the specialties at Buster’s, and they know how to do it right. They have great early bird specials from 4-6pm, too. Open for lunch and dinner. $$-$$$
- Burritos Fiesta - 1530 S. Riordan Ranch St. - 774-3600 - This counter-style Mexican restaurant, tucked away next to Bookman’s, is truly a hidden gem of Flagstaff. Try their gigantic tacos, Quesadilla Norteña (with chicken or steak) or the popular Fiesta Burrito. You really can’t go wrong here. Open for lunch and early dinner. $
- Hiro’s Sushi - 1312 S. Plaza Way - 226-8030 - Best sushi in Flagstaff, hands down. Open for lunch and dinner. $$$
- Our Daily Bread - 1250 S. Plaza Way - 556-8686 – This is an awesome sandwich place. They bake their bread fresh every day (hence the name) and everything I’ve tried is just delicious. Open for lunch.
- Crystal Creek Sandwich Co. - 1051 S. Milton Rd. - 774-9373 - The sandwiches at this counter-style place are awesome. They have really funky, cool decor. They have a pool table. Hip beers on tap. No wonder this is a college favorite. Try the Turkey Bacon Guacamole or the Southwestern French Dip. Open for lunch and dinner. $
- Little Thai Kitchen - 1051 S. Milton Rd. - 226-9422 - Don’t be fooled by the humble appearance of this Flagstaff gem. Sit at one of the 10 two-person tables cramped into a space smaller than many peoples’ living rooms and experience some of the best Thai food in Flagstaff, and at very reasonable prices, to boot. The curries are to die for, and make sure to save room for some fried bananas and coconut ice cream for dessert. Open for lunch and dinner. $-$$
- Oregano’s - 605 W. Riordan Rd. - 773-8600 - This place is ridiculously popular for a reason; their thin- and stuffed-crust pizzas and pasta dishes are to die for, and the service is always top-notch. There’s always a long, long wait for dinner, so beat the rush and check out their awesome lunch specials! Open for lunch and dinner. $-$$
- Buffalo Wild Wings (not on map) - 2700 S Woodlands Village Blvd. - 774-3550 - BW3’s, as it’s affectionately known, is a college favorite, featuring – of course – buffalo wings, served in your choice of 12 sauces. Great place to watch the game. Open for lunch and dinner. $-$$
- Marten’s - 12 N. San Francisco St - A local favorite and my restaurant of choice for a morning meal, Marten’s features absolutely fantastic Mexican-style breakfast and lunch offerings at reasonable prices. Cool ambiance, too! It’s popular, though, so don’t show up too hungry. $
- Charly’s - 23 N. Leroux St. - 779-1919 - Located in the historic Hotel Weatherford, Charly’s serves delicious Southwestern and American cuisine. Check out Sam’s special posole, a hominy, green chile, and pork stew in a fried tortilla bowl. Open for lunch and dinner. $-$$
- Monsoon - 6 E. Aspen Ave. - 226-8844 - Right next to Heritage Square, Monsoon serves the best Pan-Asian cuisine in Flagstaff in a nice atmosphere. Features live music on weekends, and some excellent beers on tap. $-$$
- Alpine Pizza - 7 N. Leroux St. - 779-4109 - A popular local hangout, Alpine serves great pizza in an unpretentious atmosphere. Several beers on tap, a jukebox and a pool table are perfect complements to the wooden tables and vinyl booths. Slices served from 11am-5pm; after that, it’s whole pies only. Open for lunch and dinner. $
- Pasto - 19 E. Aspen Ave. - 779-1937 – Pasto is awesome. The food is excellent, the service is on par with the best and the wine list is superb. For a more intimate encounter, reserve a window table, and make sure to save room for their excellent desserts, including the sumptious chocolate crème brulée. Open for dinner. Reservations recommended. $$$$
- Mountain Oasis - 11 E. Aspen Ave. - 214-9270 - This eclectic restaurant features healthful, ethnic fusion dishes, and delicious sandwiches. Charming atmosphere and reasonable prices; try the yellow-fin tuna steak sandwich and the house specialty smoothies. Open for lunch and dinner. $$
- Collins’ Irish Pub - 2 N. Leroux St. - 214-7363 - Collins’ serves Irish-themed pub food and is fun for lunch, but becomes more bar-like around 7pm. Check it out during happy hour, too, for free wings and great specials. Open for lunch and dinner. $$
- Black Bean Burrito Company - 12 E. Route 66 - 779-9905 - “That is, seriously, like, the best place ever. I’m not even joking…I would seriously rate Black Bean over Del Taco.” - McConnell RA Sarah Nebel. Sarah really really likes Del Taco, if that tells you anything. This place may be a little hard to find, but it’s totally worth the effort; they serve awesome wraps at reasonable prices. Open for lunch and dinner. $
- Beaver Street Brewery - 11 S. Beaver St. - 779-0079 - Popular Flagstaff fixture features an imaginative menu and a seasonal rotation of excellent homebrewed beers. Don’t miss the wood-fired pizzas, pretzels and amazing beer-cheese fondue. Open for lunch and dinner. $$-$$$
- Cottage Place - 126 W. Cottage Ave. - 774-8431 – The best French cuisine in Arizona. Open for dinner. Reservations required. $$$$
- La Bellavia - 18 S. Beaver St. - 774-8301 - From its lacy cafe curtains to its country furnishings and accessories, this little Flagstaff gem is warm and welcoming. Maybe that's why it's one of the city's favorite breakfast and lunch spots. Be ready for a bit of a wait; this place is always busy, and make sure to try the Aloha, a cappuccino mixed with coconut milk, from their full service coffee bar. Open for breakfast and lunch. $$
- Macy’s - 14 S. Beaver St. - 774-2243 - Popular local hangout features great coffee, awesome vegetarian sandwiches and live jazz on the weekends. No credit cards accepted. $
- Pesto Brothers Piazza - 104 N. Leroux St. - 774-3020 - A fine Italian restaurant overlooking Heritage Square; try out the “El Canario” for lunch, which is quite possibly the greatest sandwich ever made, and delicious traditional pasta dishes for dinner. Open for lunch and dinner. $-$$$
- Dara Thai - 14 S. San Francisco St. - 774-0047 - A local favorite for years, Dara Thai features authentic Thai cuisine, a very courteous and attentive staff, and a very cool -- if a little loud, at times -- atmosphere. Features a wide variety of vegetarian dishes and a full bar. Open for dinner, reservations recommended. $$
- Café Ole - 121 S. San Francisco St. - 774-8272 - I think this place has the best Mexican food in Flagstaff, and it’s all lard-free, vegetarians. Their salsa is amazing, and if you sit out on the patio, they have a huge cat. Or is it a puma? Either way, Café Ole comes highly recommended. Open for dinner. $$
- Black Bart’s (not on map) - 2760 E. Butler Ave. - 779-3412 - This steakhouse employs students from NAU’s choral department as servers, so you get to watch a live, western dinner revue while you eat. Big porterhouse cuts and prime rib are their specialty, but make sure to save room for the fried ice cream. Open for dinner. $$$
- Jackson’s Grill (not on map) - 7085 S. Highway 89 - 213-9332 - On the west side of Highway 89, just south of the Coconino County Fairgrounds, Jackson’s hosts friendly service and some of the best steak, seafood and salads in Northern Arizona. Open for lunch and dinner. $$$
