My doctor says I am an autosexual.

My mother always told me, you have to love yourself before you can love other people. I don't know...I just can't love anyone else.

I just started a new journal. I used to have one in 2003 but then I abandoned it in 2004 and deleted it. now I'm back and I thought the theme of this LJ should have a lot to do with what is really going on in my life. I am what they call an 'autosexual'.

This expression is what lead me to explore the issue of autosexuality as well... the idea that it would be healthy...

I'm not sure it's true though, I think you can love others even if you hate yourself. What is 'love' varies a lot among people anyway, it's wrong to try and define it. What I think it is moreso, is that if you do not love yourself, or more clearly, if you are not happy with yourself or your life, then you would leech that off of a partner.

Many people are not aware of that, but when you become aware... if you pursue a relationship knowing you are sort of an emotional vampire, then it certainly is not love. It's wrong to 'use' people for things.

In an autosexual sense... the act versus the orientation... while masturbation is an autosexual act, it's not always a self-loving act. People who use their bodies as a substitute for others... their hand rather than a partner's parts, they are devaluing themself. This is probably moreso with heterosexuals since they are not attracted to their own gender, which they possess, so they find it repugnant perhaps?
