Just waiting for my flight. Been up all night but will sleep on the plane and will arrive in the morning over there. Not sure how long the flight is actually. The automated check in system couldn't read my new passport so had to use the old style check in desk. Getting a little sleepy now!

One of you kind folks was recently mentioning an album cover art finding utility which worked well with unusual albums. I thought I bookmarked it in delicious at the time, but apparently I experienced BOOKMARK FAIL. I'm using iTunes built-in one with marginal success, and Discogs and Google Images for everything else.
Anyone else got a decent recommendation for cover art finding tools?

Just about to head off to the airport. Have a morning flight from heathrow so need to leave in the middle of the night. Will arrive quite early in Washington so will have a chance to get organised and possible see some of the sites. However I'm going by myself on the this trip so I feel a bit depressed.

I bought a Wii Fit...and it's passive-aggressive. I missed a day of working out due to being out of town yesterday, but I did a lot of walking yesterday, so I decided missing my daily Wii Fit workout wouldn't be a crime. I get on the Wii Fit today and it says "Too busy to exercise yesterday, eh, Lisa?" Oh fuck you! It's really mean actually. I know it's just a machine, but it chides you over the littlest things. No shit I have poor balance, I have fibromyalgia you twat! Sometimes I want to pick it up and throw it across the room. I think one of the problems is that the TV is in a carpeted room and maybe the Wii Fit board isn't as steady as it should be. Anyway, every day I do 30 minutes of balance games, strength training, a little cardio, and yoga. I don't really think I'm burning calories, but it's to get stronger and tone my muscles as I lose weight. I lost 6 lbs and the Wii Fit said I had gained 3...I think it wants me to fail, honestly. I just try to ignore it and focus on doing the exercises.
Yesterday my mom and I went to UC Berkeley to visit my sister. We had lunch at this sandwich/soup/salad place (I forget the name). I got a "veggie delight" salad, which turned out to be like, 10 meals in one. I have never seen such a big salad. After that, we said goodbye to her and went to Oakland to visit Mountain View Cemetery, which is really gorgeous and very big, and there are some very interesting people buried there. I would like to go back and take more photographs. Then we walked down Piedmont Avenue and checked out some of the shops before heading home.
There are some more exciting things going on, but I'll save them for later. I am just kind of irritable today because I don't quite know what to do with my free time. I thought about carving some pumpkins, but they will probably go bad by the time Halloween rolls around, so I guess I'll have to wait. Raley's is selling some of the monster cereals - Count Chocula, Boo Berry, and Frankenberry, so I was thinking of making Rice Krispies-like treats out of them, but I don't want to be tempted to eat them, so I probably won't.
I'm glad the weather is colder, but that means my nose and hands are always icy cold. Brr.

Wow, didn't post anything here a really looooong while. But now I'm back with story, wahahaha! XD
Title: Torn Rating: PG-13, but it will get 18+ for later chapters Summary: Franziska von Karma knew she was irrevocably changed when she had come to terms with her losses to Phoenix Wright in court. From that point on, she knew it was time to change the way she had lived her whole life and start anew. Some things change, some things stay the same, but neither Franziska von karma nor Phoenix Wright were expecting exactly what life would throw their way.

Hey guys, sorry I'm pretty quiet as of late, currently doing that whole "blowing through a bunch of games" thing right now. I'm mostly putting my efforts into ToV, because it's honestly the one I'm finding the most immediately compelling. I think I'm at about the halfway mark now (just got Judith back in the group, which makes me all kinds of happy), and my opinion of it has mostly remained the same as before: story's kinda blah, but the beautifully dysfunctional character family makes up for the plot's shortcomings and then some. It's also improved gameplay-wise - now that everyone has a good artes set, the battles have become far less mash-tacular and have begun to involve a degree of actual skill. I managed to get a +40 Grade in my last boss battle, which made me pretty happy. Wish I knew what use the Grade actually has in this particular Tales, though...
Also, to those who attended: Did TGS suck as much as it looks like it did from the observer-side of things? I was beginning to feel like going in August and opting for Comiket over TGS might have been a mistake, but after seeing what was at TGS (nothing we really hadn't seen before) and looking at how sparse news from the showfloor was, I feel a lot better about not going.
Speaking of events in Japan, apparently Winter Wonder Festival isn't happening! This boggles my mind - they cancelled WonFes due to the escalator incident earlier this summer, but not Comiket, which draws exponentially bigger crowds...?

This is a tad random, but...
Is there any saying in Japanese similar to the English "I'm running late?"
As in, I'm not late yet, but I will be if I don't hurry?
Because all the words for "late" I've seen so far (遅刻, 遅れる) refer to the state of already being late... Unless the nuance of "running late" is in some conjugation of these words/verbs as well?
I'm writing a little speech detailing how I would usually be running late for school when I was in Japan. (well, I do that in America too...xD)
Thanks for your help in advance. ^__^

to know when to shut the fuck up. this is becoming a deficiency of mine.
we got one of those drunk japanese guys who is like HEY FOREIGNERS YOU ARE MY TOYS at this bar we went to tonight. gets fucking old when he starts telling you that you need to lose weight and starts pressing into "hey do you have a girlfriend" and then when he keeps pressing it eventually i'm like "hey do you really want to know why i don't have a girlfriend" and then tell him. and then it just gets worse from there
so like i said
gotta learn how to shut the fuck up. but also gotta learn how to fucking shake the annoying japanese guy. why do these guys think they can talk to whoever the fuck they want about whatever the fuck occurs to them?

Tokyo Game Show 2008 is over! Checked out a bunch of games, including Fallout 3, where I got a Pipboy bobblehead, and Gyakuten Kenji (the Phoenix Wright Edgeworth game), which was pretty cool and I got a Blue Badger handkerchief. Janet also got me an Oldbag bag, which is pretty awesome~ After the show, I met up with some friends and went to some sort of international development party, which was lame and ran out of food, and after that, we crashed the Microsoft developers party, which was rainy and had a lot more food. They also gave us flashlights and a tambourine(!) What would anyone in the world need with an xna tamborine??? One thing neither of these parties had was decent drinks (if by "decent" you mean "not beer, shitty wine, or whiskey"), so I could not fulfill my dream of drinking to excess on someone else's dime. I really just wanted a soda, but it was not meant to be... However, they had a raffle and I won a bottle of Dom Perignon and two glasses! Not too shabby~
Janet came over Saturday, just in time to catch a nasty cold. Similarly (well, not really, but same paragraphly), the heat rash(?) I caught Thursday seems to be worse every time I look at it. Perhaps my house is cursed with the plague??? (This did not stop me from going for hot pot and later to a massive night festival at a temple in Ikegami--a location I could not tell you where it is though I was there just a few hours earlier--this evening. Janet was napping so I figured it worked out...)
Have finally found a place in Shinjuku that supposedly sells quality non-Indian/Asian curry... Unfortunately, it is just far enough away from work to be unrealistic to try out. Ughh, so craving curry...maybe I will hit up Little Spoon...tomorrow! Now is time for sleep.
Am making an effort from now on to not use smileys, as I'm too old for that shit. So don't think I magically got more serious, I'm just trying not to sound like my mother when she calls things "phat" or "off the hook."

The new Macross Frontier OST makes me want to karaoke! I may possibly die if I don't karaoke soon, lol. :3
The other day, I needed to get out of the house, so I went out with starrbeam, mizukiaya, and eien_chiharu to Roppongi. There were plans to go to an art event there, but we ended up ditching the event and going to have indian curry and be dorks instead. Then we went to Linz's house and played "I never". Ow wow, it's been AGES since I've played that game, but it was so much fun!! But why am I always the one who loses?? ^____^;;;;;;; I just like trying new things, lol.
Because the night was otherwise the fun kind of lame, Lindsay and I maxxed out the lame and took pictures of each other. XP ( Which you can see if you'd like.. ^^ )
PS: I hit my goal weight!! I now weigh the same as in high school, yayayayay!!! It was really hard. :3 But I still have a LOT of toning to do, so I will focus on that and eating well from now on! Fitness yay!!

In just under 8 hours, we'll be partaking of our world famous (to us) Chili Recipe.
It almost didn't happen. We bought all of the ingredients yesterday, but Cindy had a volunteer engagement this morning and didn't get the mixture going. I'm not sure why, because I was asleep at the time, though I have my suspicions that basic forgetting and/or the recipe being in the car were the likely reasons.
When I woke up just before 11am, I noticed it wasn't in the crock pot and had resigned myself to something else for dinner. Not like we don't have options. But then I got it into my head to make it myself. Unfortunately, that inspiration was quickly dashed when I failed to find the recipe book we stapled it into. I'm pretty sure it's in the car.
Thankfully, I'd posted the recipe to my LiveJournal before, so some patient clicking solved that problem.
And now our dinner is slowly simmering. I did a poor job of chopping the peppers and onions, but I think it'll turn out just dandy anyway. The real secret is in the amounts of cumin and brown sugar, which really aren't final until we do a taste test in a few hours.

I understand that the particle "zo" is something that's used to emphasize a point. I also understand that it's something that you would rarely (if ever) hear a woman use. What I was wondering is if writers use "zo" to help characterize someone. What I mean is if you hear a character use "zo" does that tell you something about the character? Like he's a little rough around the edges or young? Kind of like when you hear a female character use the particle "wa" at the end of the sentence, you know that's a way to characterize her as gentle and feminine. As always, thank you!

On Friday night we both got massages. I got a 40-minute full-body course, which kicked major butt. The next morning at karate, my body was 100% ON! Today's training wasn't too shabby either. I have come to the conclusion that yappari, massages, when done right, are essential. My masseuse in Chinese and she's awesome at what she does and even walks all over my back. I love her!
Today at LUSH I got...
Ma Bar bubble bar Blue Skies bubble bar Tramp shower gel Caca Noir henna Karma perfume (for Roo's birthday)
Tramp is EXTRAORDINARY D: I regret not trying it sooner. I cut off a slice of Ma Bar and used it in the washing machine instead of detergent, and now the clothes smell like cookies! Better for the environment too. I ask again, could I possibly love Lush any more than I already do?!?! My heart bursts at the thought.
Speaking of things bursting.... Pedro invited us to spend Halloween with him on the navy base. So we needed costumes! It took a Herculean effort on both me and Ryuuji's parts to get the zipper of this thing closed over my boobs, as it was designed for Japanese girls. But eventually we got it zipped! D:

Ryuuji chose this monstrosity... it's Boyakki from the anime Yattaman. D:

This is what the box for the costume looked like:

I can't WAIT to the see servicemen's reaction!! D: D:

This may or may not have been a waste of a weekend. I did spend it relaxing. I didn't do anything really constructive short of tidying the house, sleeping, cooking, and videochatting with Mike. Virusmaking is delayed since the cells grew unevenly and I have to thaw out a new tube. Not good timing since more and more virus demands are piling up and I'm going to have to devote increasing amounts of attention to it. Nothing wrong with that, it just requires discipline. I feel guilty for relaxing.
I did read though, and finished In Defense of Food by Michael Pollan. If you've watched the lecture he gave at Google (can see on Youtube) then he covers basically the entire book in that one hour and there's not much new material. But, it's worth it for the consolidation. It makes me appreciate Japanese groceries more. Although I'm not certain as to how different it is from Western produce, what I do know is that it's a lot more fresh - transportation is really efficient across the country and there's lots of farmland just outside the city.
I don't know if it's due to the book or if it's just a coincidence but over the past few weeks I've been trying to fix my eating. I want to rely more on vegetables. I know however that I can't just maintain my level of meat consumption and add vegetables, otherwise I'd just keep eating meat and nothing else, so I'm putting a bit of a restriction on meat consumption and just taking eggs and fish when I can, in order to force myself more on vegetables to fill up. While Japan has beef and chicken, they don't really specialize in it, and I prefer to consume fish and eggs while in Japan just because not only is there a huge industry for fresh-caught fish, it's more integrated into traditional cuisine, I think. And their eggs are of stupendous quality here - not the pale yellow yolks like back home, here they could damn well be called orange.
Anyway, my point is, I went to the grocery store to buy vegetables and about 5 kinds of mushrooms were on sale, so I felt compelled to buy all 5 kinds, and now I don't know what to do with them.
I'm also excited because I found a bunch of different tofu-based salad dressings that I just realized I could make thanks to the Magic Bullet I bought way back when. Hand blenders, what would I do without you?

I've been up since 3 AM. Don't know why I woke up, but I was sweating and it was abrupt so I figure I probably had a nightmare, I just don't know what it is.
The nice thing is, it gave me an early start on my cooking for the game today. I'm making a chicken and cheese dip for chips, and instead of putting the meat in the crock pot on high, I got to put it in on low and season it before hand. I still need to go out and pick up some more ingredients, but I'll get that done later. You know, when stores open.
In other news, the fact that this place has one washer and dryer for ten apartments never ceases to amaze me. So, while the plan yesterday was to do laundry in the morning, and go to my friend's house to play Magic at night, I instead did my house cleaning in the morning and did laundry at night. Missed out on one of my weekend social activities. Boo.
Work has actually been incredibly busy since... well... Mid-September. They switched a lot of the role responsibilities around and to say my work load has tripled would be to put it lightly. I don't mind being constantly busy at work, and it's still buckets easier than Activision, but I just need to get used to working at high speed again. I've been working in second gear for so long that it feels odd kicking it up.
I do like working for a bank though. I get Columbus Day off! Who gives Columbus Day off anymore? I'll probably spend part of the day walking along the river down by Fort Snelling. I haven't had a chance to do that yet, and it irks me.
I think that's all I've got to say for right now. I hope things are going well for all of you out there. Take care.

it's a curse: go out to a bar, come back with an empty wallet. this is why it's important to not pick bars that charge ¥900 per drink, but hey.
at least for ¥900 the vodka was belvedere, not some total garbage.
i'm going to eat a sandwich.

Oh snap, I was reading a thread at NeoGAF and it just dawned on me... I STILL OWN A PSP.
Yeah, that shows you how much I played the thing before, and how useful it was to me when I was reviewing game for a living... I frigging forgot I owned one.
I know the system has come a long way and I know they're releasing a snazzier model this coming week... but, jeez, I need one so little that I forgot about the one I already have.
Not that I could find anyone to sell my old one to that'd offer me diddly-squat. I have one of the original "fat" models. It can be flashed to homebrew firmware, I think, but I'm pretty sure the newer models can too.
Eh, I'm less bugged by it than the three main consoles. I'm not 100% sure where my PSP is, but it's not taking up much space regardless. Maybe I will forget I own one again.
Not to begrudge PSP owners that like the system. The hardware is fine. It's just the software hasn't catered to my needs. And my retro love is better served in other, legit ways.
Is this what being a "casual" gamer is like? If so, I kinda like it.
