today's nice, cloudy, cool..the ferrets got a break from the living room, and i put them in the smaller room with their much more spacious cage, they're basking in the pleasures of stretching Solo rather than be overwhelmed in the living room.... They be so adorable when they're free-roaming in the room too.. Aramis with his wrestling, and gettin into shit...aiko going thru tubes, and tehtoh doing everything cept talkin.... Dialysis went alright, I slept thru most of it, not much to do, and I cant be bothered with reading, or trying to with one arm available, and half the time the bp cuff starts pumpin, which sucks...Not looking forward to a fistulagraph or whatever it's called, sounds painful as hell.... But I suppose it's better than getting a new graft....I should ask around and make sure. Should probably get a cab and roam the town a bit, better that than just puttering around the house, bored!!! mood: bored |

After finding out I was placed as "Innactive" on the Transplant list, and uncertain about my status, I barely slept much thinking about what this meant, I got in touch with my social worker, and he said he would get the ball rolling again, I'm still at a loss as to why I was removed, not much explanation given.... Now for the dandy part...Visiting SS offices, and going back to medical appointments, then hopefully on a waiting list for a kidney, unless I figure some way to have a living donor, am trying to find a way to ask my brother, and that's if he's compatible... For the time being that's all I know I can do, one thing's for sure, hemodialysis is rough... Life is on hold, barely time to do anything, and when there's time, all I want to do is curl up and fade into deep sleep... To the point at time timeS I feel I'm in a slump... A rather difficult to shake off type...ugh... I try to relax and time flies into the next session... I tend to feel as if the Unit I'm in barely holds up as far as meeting my needs, I wondered about another Unit, but my county refuses to pay for a certain distance when that unit is available(the one I'm in)....The Unit I want has a doctor I've felt I could count on since he started my dialysis(my first Unit), he's an excellent caregiver in the Nephrology dept.. Nowadays I feel as if I'm chasing my tail over and over to no avail in a dangerous pursuit of nothing... Any advise or help is greatly appreciated... mood: anxious |

| SHAME.....I'm not staying quiet....Senseless Pet Death in Puerto Rico |

This is going on Now, And this NOT a PeTA issue, this going on independantly, I am not a PeTA supporter (sorry).....I am one of Many Many Puerto Rican Owners who are shocked, Horrified and Astonished at this news, at this action.....Daily we pick animals homeless and helpless, we help them, Many of Us too knowing the need to for shelter.... These So-called "Agents" come in under guise of Animal Control, not knowing the love these animals are Given.... And they fucking HURL them off a BRIDGE......they take them from children....in projects....they claim to inject them....And then toss them off of a 50 ft Bridge, Alive.... I've been reading and reading details, but this is too much.... I kept thinking of my dogs, the ones I kept bringing home when I was in the Housing Projects too.....My Pelusita was among them...She was my baby, my precious, my pride, my pampered baby for 9 yrs until I had to let her go from a combo of cancer/diabetes....she literally slept by my side, never letting not even my girlfriends sleep next to me...they'd always somehow wind up with her on them....jealous lil baby.... To think that these people just barge in Raid-Style and Toss these poor folks precious pets off of a 50 foot bridge because of a fucking NoPet Policy, and then they have the GALL to claim "you cannot prove those animals are the ones we confiscated"....those animals are the ones the people raised and fed themselves, assholes..... I'm ashamed today.... Ashamed that Officials use their position for such a heartless cruel task, and claim it's in other peoples best interest....fuck you.How can you sleep at night?..... BARCELONETA, Puerto Rico - Elvia Tirado Polanco says she reluctantly handed over her black- and white-spotted mutt to animal control workers after they threatened that she would be evicted from her housing project for keeping a pet there. The workers promised to take the small dog named "Lucero" — or "Star" — to a shelter. Days later, however, Tirado was horrified to learn that dozens of pets seized this week in Barceloneta on Puerto Rico's north coast were instead thrown to their deaths from a bridge. "It was barbaric," said Tirado, 56, who wept Saturday as she described caring for the seven-year-old dog. "This has been a really hard blow for all of us." Several pet owners inside the Antonio Davila Freytes housing project, one of three raided by animal control workers Monday and Wednesday, said they had provided vaccinations and lavished care on the cats and dogs taken from their homes and killed with strays. The government circulated a letter inside housing projects this month warning that violators of a no-pet policy would be evicted. Mayor Sol Luis Fontanez said the town ordered the removal of the pets, but he blamed the massacre on a contractor hired to take the animals to a shelter. Fontanez said he would cancel the city's contract with Puerto Rico-based Animal Control Solutions and that city lawyers were considering a lawsuit. Company owner Julio Diaz said he went to the bridge when he heard of the allegations, but denied that the dead animals were the ones his company collected. He said he would present his records as proof to city authorities on Monday. "I have the dead dogs in my facility," he said Saturday. "I am a certified animal control officer. I have been doing this for nine years." Puerto Rico's housing department has opened an investigation into who is responsible for the deaths, said Doris Gaetan, of the department's office of community relations. She said regulations in the U.S. Caribbean territory allow pets in government-funded housing projects if they are small and do not pose a risk to others. "We do not support the way in which this was done," Gaetan said during a visit to hear the accounts of pet owners at one of the complexes. A local resident, Jose Manuel Rivera, used a backhoe to bury the bodies of about 50 animals Saturday in a mass grave near the bridge where they were dumped. He discovered the animals around dawn Tuesday after hearing barking and whimpers from animals who survived the 50-foot fall. He recovered six injured dogs, who were reunited with their owners after they saw their pets on a television news broadcast. "One had a broken spine, and about all of them had broken legs," Rivera said. Many of the pets inside the housing project were strays that were adopted by residents after wandering into the low-income neighborhood. Owners said they feel they are now paying the price for the neglect of others on an island with no pet registration law and little spaying or neutering. "It is not our fault that they come here," said Carmen Valle, 56, who said workers seized two of her dogs. "We are humble people, but we have good hearts. Animals should be treated with decency." Tirado said she had cared for Lucero for seven years as if the dog were her child, feeding her from the plastic table in her cramped living room and letting her sleep beside her at night. During the raids, she said workers surrounded the housing complex and prevented anyone from leaving with pets. But she said she wishes she had never let Lucero go. "I have been crying so much I can barely sleep," she said. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20071013/ap_on_re_la_am_ca/puerto_rico_pet_massacremood: angry |

should see my female ferret(Aiko...Lil aiko boo-boo, snookie-boobie *shut up, peanut gallery*)....gawds....she's gettin her winter coat(pepperish...black roan mitt)....and her winter weight....the typical nickname is comin about... lil mistress chunkybutt(mistress cuz she's the Alpha in her roost)....da chunky monkey when she's hyper and they're free-roaming...she doesnt mind, she gives me kissy-nose...sometimes i have to make sure it's her i look at in the cage and not the biggest boy now... aramis is getting his "panda" colors, but for some odd reason, he's reverse, he gets a wee bit thin for a bit, then late winter early spring, he really really Porks up...tehtoh is a late bloomer...so he wont get hideously "bear"-like for a bit, probably late fall early winter, that fucker is already huge, and normally has me wondering if he's a Hybrid...When he got his first winter coat, I seriously boggled...cuz he looked incredibly amazing...almost like a Show ferret but neutered for some reason and given up way too soon.... Not that I care, He's my naughty baby boy... I say that cuz he is a handful with almost everyone except me...nips hard, but he'll go quiet and give up with me...although sometimes he'll act up..but that's mostly cuz he wants to play.... He's quite a hisser too when I get him hyper...I find it amusing, but I know I shouldnt encourage it...even if he does wag his tail... He's almost Chocolate..but has some interesting splotches... Aiko completely and astonishing Dominates him totally...from the very start....I kind of worried, he was twice her size....she was twice his age... When quarentine was up, I sat there intent, and in shock, he just....stayed put while she scruffed him and groomed him, and she cuddled.... Aramis on the other hand....different story.... Even had to put him in a sep. cage... Aramis...Cuz he seemed jealous....he'd try to dominate both, and within...2 or 3 minutes....I did count 3 at one point....Teh-toh had him squealing and sqwauking while he pinned him and dragged him.... Every damned time I put 'em together... But, recently, I got tired of two cages...and I said 'Im sorry, I love you, but u need to get over your macho shit'... Put 'em together, I added 2 hammocks, big ones...a cube, and some blankets...in case of an exile... Not a peep... I peeked cuz I feared the worse... They were all 3 snuggled on top of each other...and of all the shit.... Aiko looked up like she was fuckin annoyed with the light , as if to say "do you Mind?! we're trying to sleep here".... heh...I shut the light off and did a happy dance... mood: quixotic music: Fur Elise |

I saw this today in the Cinemas.... From the very start to the very ending...it held me captivated... It left me speechless, and kept me thinking for awhile... It shows that there are indeed 2 sides to a coin on Both sides of the Ocean.... It made me proud to be who I am at the end.... It delves into the crisis of terrorism, if you're sensitive, be prepared to cringe....Often... It's fast-paced...Not mindless action, blood & guts...just...Fast-Paced With action and to the Point.... It also goes into the astonishing cultural differences between the U.S. and Islam/Middle East.... Plus the way Politics can be tricky and different.... I highly recommend it...if you enjoyed The Seige, and even Munich, you will Not regret watching this. mood: impressed |

| Audism....A discrimination that goes unnoticed....? |
|
|
01:01pm 06/10/2007 |
|
| |
Wow.....-blinks- Audism is a term used to describe discrimination or stereotypes against deaf or hard of hearing people, for example by assuming that the cultural ways of hearing people are preferable or superior to those of deaf or signing culture, or that deaf people are somehow less capable than hearing people.
Audists can either be hearing or deaf. Audism occurs when a deaf person is judged as incapable of a given behavior, occupation, etc. simply because he or she cannot hear. Audism is often coupled with a "hearing" superiority: an attitude of thinking one person is superior to another person because he or she can hear better than him or her. Audism takes another form concerning interactions between the deaf: deaf people who will not use sign language and who will not identify with the Deaf community may consider themselves to be "better" than others who use sign language and are part of Deaf culture.
While opponents of audism seek to educate the public that Deaf people can do anything but hear, they recognize there are limitations in certain situations — service in the army, employment as a commercial pilot, or telemarketing, perhaps. However, aside from a few, select examples, audism's opponents argue that the Deaf are capable of excelling in a myriad of settings and deserve equal opportunity.
Definitions
Audism (from Latin audire, to hear, and -ism, a system of practice, behavior, belief, or attitude) has been variously defined as:
* The belief that life without hearing is futile and miserable, that hearing loss is a tragedy and "the scourge of mankind," and that deaf people should struggle to be as much like hearing people as possible. Deaf activists Heidi Reed and Hartmut Teuber at D.E.A.F. Inc., a community service and advocacy organization in Boston, consider audism to be "a special case of ableism." Audists, hearing or deaf, shun Deaf culture and the use of sign language, and have what Reed and Teuber describe as "an obsession with the use of residual hearing, speech, and lip reading by deaf people." (Pelka 1997: 33)
* The notion that one is superior based on one's ability to hear or behave in the manner of one who hears. (Tom Humphrey 1977, quoted in Zak 1996)
* An attitude based on pathological thinking which results in a negative stigma toward anyone who does not hear; like racism or sexism, audism judges, labels, and limits individuals on the basis of whether a person hears and speaks. (Humphrey and Alcorn 1995: 85)
* The corporate institution for dealing with deaf people--dealing with them by making statements about them, authorizing views of them, describing them, teaching about them, governing where they go to school and, in some cases, where they live; in short, audism is the hearing way of dominating, restructuring, and exercising authority over the deaf community. It includes such professional people as administrators of schools for deaf children and of training programs for deaf adults, interpreters, and some audiologists, speech therapists, otologists, psychologists, psychiatrists, librarians, researchers, social workers, and hearing aid specialists.
