babysat all weekend. kids were fun. i watched like all of house season 2, SO addictive.
so as some of you may know i've recently been attempting to take control of my personal finances and been reading up on how to be fiscally responsible and have financial independence and integrity. The book I'm currently reading is knocking down money myths (free spirits can still keep good financial records) and attempting to coach me to treat my financial life the same way any business would (i.e. not just randomly guessing).
today i worked out my liquid assets, my fixed assets, and my liabilities. it turns out my net worth is somewhere around $12,000. That actually struck me as more than I anticipated. It was sort of funny. It took less than half an hour to (casually) inventory everything I own. I guess that's not TOO surprising seeing as 99% of it fits into the back of my truck...
just found that interesting.
(a year ago i didn't even balance my checkbook)

okay, so that was a lame attempt to make a mock reference to avril lavigne.
Anyway, my point is that IT IS SO FRICKING HOT HERE. Like I am sitting in my room with the fan on SWEATING. The good news is that in about an hour it will be MUCH MUCH better and will feel AWESOME with my window and fan on. I guess it's worse inside too because the sun here is hot. Maybe that doesn't make sense but to me it does. :)
I was sad today because I feel like my life as of recent has been v. unexamined and I think having such an excess of activity post- alumni retreat kind of didn't allow space for me to process the retreat.
And, dreads tentatively scheduled for Tuesday.
I'm freaking out and blogging about the Khrusty brothers at www.lindsaylovesmusic.blogspot.com just so you know what you're being spared. :)

just finished the book- the movie is NOTHING like the book, in fact I was like, "why did they even decide to call it "last of the mohicans"? I feel like the movie would have done well anyway, it's a good story on its own, it just happens to bear little to no resemblance of james fenimore cooper's book. Liz mentioned that she thinks NIkki read it for school and that reminded me that Nikki took a class on Western Lit which now sounds very interesting to me.
So i liked the book. And because it was nothing like the movie parts of the ending DID indeed shock me- really, I gasped out loud twice.
And then I bought the movie soundtrack. :)

Nick: don't worry, it will work out, are you excited about school, nervous?
me: haven't had a ton of time to think about it
probably nervous
because like
i started reading a book about theology
to sort of dip my toe in
and instead i'm reading other books
watching last of the mohicans as many times as humanly possible
Nick: whatever, your the most academic person I know, seriously, why last of the mohicans?
me: 'cause claire and i were talking about it
and then i was like i don't think i've ever seen it
so i got it to watch
then the book came up in ANOTHER book i was reading
so i decided to reread the BOOK
and then of course want to watch the movie to compare
then found out that one of the girls i just went cmaping with has never seen it
so she's coming over to watch too
:-D

i love my clairey!!!! we actually got dressed and put on actual makeup to go out for dinner and drinks
me and my TENT!!!!
claire and i hiked here the other day, apparently it snowed in the mountains today so i bet it looks different...
alec swam in the state prelims today- didn't make finals but did swim a best time. I'm really proud of him. :)
got my ipod shuffle in the mail today, going to try it out at the gym tomorrow!
was recced Misty Edwards' music via Joia via Matt Maher and she's really good.
which got me thinking- I think that when I drive to Philly I will try to stay at the International House of Prayer in Kansas City the first night. That divides my drive into an 8.5 hour first day, 10ish hour second day, and then third day with Mo from Columbus. I've wanted to check out this REAL ihop for a while now, should be interesting.
also, i think I'm going to dread my hair. so far the response has been positive. i'm going to ask my manager if it's within dress code tomorrow and if she says it is I'll probably do it as soon as I can find someone to. If not I'll probably wait and get KT and helpers to do it. woooo!

Ever since I found out they were being published I have REALLY wanted to read her diary.
I need to go track down a copy...

okay, so let's make that a total of six zahn books in five days. but now i'm done. his other star wars books are prequel-esque: outbound flight and then "allegiance" (which I feel like I might have read but can't remember, just checked, yes Morgan sent it to me when it was published so I have in fact read it) and I don't feel any need to read those.
so now i'm at the smoky hill library listening to john mayer (although I listened to kelly on my way over here which was AWESOME) and attempting to write letters of recommendation for TomNeal. MUCHO privilege but that doesn't mean I know how to write the damn thing! grrrr. Here is where not getting to read your letters of rec kind of sucks, I have no idea what they are supposed to say!
After not getting my hair to do anything this morning I gave up and put a bandana on. That's right, doo rag style. I am awesome.

between reading FIVE of timothy zahn's books in the past week (the thrawn trilogy and the hand of thrawn duology, SQUEE!), seeing Superchic[k] on Friday night, watching Lord of the Rings, and now listening to John Mayer I just feel a sense of my own retrospection.
I never thought I would miss those days, and in some ways I vehemently DON'T but I mean in hindsight my crushes and sports and grades...what *nice* things to be worried about...

hmm, in the past 36 hours I've managed to reread the entire zahn's "heir to the empire" trilogy and that's just SCARY.
( funny old school convo with Morgan...think physics class of junior year... )

Yesterday I went hiking at Barr Lake State Park in a tank top and shorts, was sweaty and sunburned.
Today? It snowed most of the day. IT IS MAY!
Although I have to say that it was lovely to watch the fat spring snowflakes swirl outside my Starbucks.

CLAIRE! I MISS YOU! COME BACK!
So I think my quest to have library cards in every major american city will be continued in the fall because I am planning on calling villanova later today to officially accept their offer which will solidify my plan to move to philadelphia in the fall and live with Susan, Beth, and Tim. SCARY! But exciting too!
