 | | What's going on? | You're living in America at the end of the millennia. . . and you're not alone. Alphabet City We're in the year 1996 and the colorful residents of the East Village in Manhattan are facing the issues which challenge poor Bohemian artists in the mid-90s. Drug abuse, HIV, prostitution, starvation, death, life, and love. However, they find that they aren't alone, friends are all around, and there is always coffee to be drunk, issues to be discussed, and art to be created, good and otherwise. Come join our cast of canon and original characters, featuring a strong sense of community and creativity and find that you're not alone either. We began as a post canon Rent fandom game, but in the past two years have become a real life game which is set in New York's East Village. At the time, it was a grim slum, full of drug dealers, prostitutes, and poor bohemian artists. But beautiful things often come of darkness and our world is peopled with just such creative folk. The question is, is your character strong enough to flourish, or will he or she become another bleak statistic? | | Who can join? | | Alphabet City is open to writers 18 and older. | | Characters wanted/needed | Any Original character, aged 15 and over who can possibly be found in an artist's slum in New York City is eligible and welcome, regardless of race, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, etc.
Canons:No Canons are available at this time. Please visit the Character Adoption Center | | About the board/community | | We've been running since May, 2006, solidly active every night. Since that time there have been over 150,000 posts and countless characters, OC and canon, set up on that board. We are a welcoming group of writers, who are always willing to work new people into our plots. In July of last year, we set up on phpBB to have freedom of expression. Each approved character is given his/her own subforum in the character information section, where backstories, photos, and other information may be stored. We boast a premium cbox which is usually quite active and friendly, photos of many of the mentioned locations, plus a newly opened cafepress store. | semester auditions |
[Friday
May 16th, 2008 @ 7:01pm] |
hey all, my school is holding auditions for their semester shows in a few months and i'm looking for my pieces. we are doing Jake's Women, Marisol, West Side Story, and Sophisticated Ladies. West Side is the only one i'm familiar with, and i know that there is no part in it for me (especially since i am still getting over a foot injury and cannot dance on it).
does anyone know anything about these shows? i looked them all up and couldn't find much. i need a song and two contrasting monologues. i'm 5'7'', brown hair, curvy, and almost always play an older woman, quirky sidekick, dominate bitch, or a mother. i'm a mezzo/alto, who is comfortable belting up to an F.....any suggestions??

Hey guys,
I'm looking for ensemble songs that I could try to stage.
Examples, "Wells Fargo Wagon" or "Sit Down You're Rocking the Boat".
I've been racking my brain, but I can't really think of anything.
I guess I'm looking for less obvious examples.
Thanks in advance! -Jake

"Brown Eyed Girl"Van Morrison "Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic"The Police |
] |
Though I've tried before to tell her Of the feelings I have for her in my heart Every time that I come near her I just lose my nerve As I've done from the start
Do I have to tell the story Of a thousand rainy days since we first met It's a big enough umbrella But it's always me that ends up getting wet
I resolve to call her up a thousand times a day And ask her if she'll marry me in some old fashioned way But my silent fears have gripped me Long before I reach the phone Long before my tongue has tripped me Must I always be alone?
Every little thing she does is magic Everything she do just turns me on Even though my life before was tragic Now I know my love for her goes on
"Hermione made purple and gold streamers erupt from the end of her wand and drape themselves artistically over the trees and bushes. 'Nice' said Ron, as with one final flourish of her wand, Hermione turned the leaves on the crab-apple tree to gold. 'You´ve really got an eye for that sort of thing'. 'Thank you, Ron!' said Hermione, looking both pleased and a little confused. Harry turned away, smiling to himself. He had a funny notion that he would find a chapter on compliments when he found time to peruse his copy of Twelve Fail-Safe Ways to Charm Witches; he caught Ginny´s eyes and grinned at her, before remembering his promise to Ron and hurriedly striking up a conversation with Monsieur Delacour."
So hard to find my way Now that I'm all on my own I saw you just the other day My, you have grown
Cast my memory back there Lord Sometimes I'm overcome thinkin' 'bout it Makin' love in the green grass Behind the ”Quidditch” stadium With you my brown eyed girl You my brown eyed girl!
Ron singing a song to himself while everybody was working for Harry´s party; as he was going around, noticing every move Hermione was making, trying to find something nice to say to her. That´s how I particularly picture this part of Deathly Hallows, one of the most sensual things JKR ever wrote! Now you are asking me: most sensual? Yes, we all know how she works so well the details in her books, so did you pay attention where this male and female seductive dance happened? Next a crab-apple tree!!
This few lines of Ron and Hermione have a subtle sensual way to show their situation in a, should I say, most Biblical way ? :D
This piece took me an eternal time to finish, because the difficult size of the details I was working on! There were sometimes I got up my head from it and all I saw around was streams and stripes! :D It was made on a Canson 180gr A4 paper with watercolor and watercolor pencils (NO Photoshop).Again the golden ink doesn´t appear after I scanned it. I asked for some help at Checkmated forums about Ron´s watch, and people there only found one reference about Dumbleodore´s, that was a pocket one. So I decided to make Ron´s as a wrist one, because it’s much more modern, practical and for sure, sexier. :D I think it shows a brief moment of happiness of my fav couple before the storm, and the palette of colors I chose for it passes this feeling. And of course, as I am a left-hand drawer, the composition is perfect for me! :D Hope you like it!

Don't Do Sadness/Blue Wind - Blake Bashoff/Emma Hunton |
] |
Please forgive me for my minor stroke of ignorance (lol) - but this Saturday, my mom is taking me over to D.C., and we were deeply considering grabbing a train to New York to see Spring Awakening one last time. Now, we were interested in buying rush tickets for stage seats, and I just had a few questions:
- Can you buy them online? (Ticketmaster, etc.) - If waiting in line, how early would one recommend being there? - What are the best seats to shoot for? -How's the quality on stage? (I'm sure it's amazing, but just for reference)
THANKS!! XD

There's usually a bit of preparation that goes into reading a chapter of shoebox_project. Usually, there's squeeing and flailing involved. I've been reading it practically since it begun, late summer of 2004, every Thursday for a while, Shoebox Day, then updates got rarer and rarer. The last chapter was July 31st, 2006. And after that, I have suddenly written and read a lot more myself. I've improved.
And with today's new chapter, I realised, I don't enjoy it as much as I did. Part of it is that I'm done being over excited about HP, especially so after the last book. I think also my standards have been lifted. Which is sort of the same as the books themselves. It took too long, and now I've gotten too old, or my taste has changed, or I've realised there are better things out there.
It's odd, I didn't feel an awful lot reading this. My preparation was getting a slice of bread and some ice tea, and going to the bathroom, so I wouldn't have to get up in the middle. I sort of miss the excitement. But now I also get why Steph's never been too excited about it.
Bought and finished Fight Club this weekend, in London. I'm gonna go continue reading my second Chuck Palahniuk book, Rant. Rather than, you know, cleaning.
The post was brought to you by There's A New SBP And No One's Online.
ETA: Oh, did I mention it was my 21st birthday? Thanks to all who've congratulated, and thanks to those who will! ♥

Okay, I know it had been a rumor for the longest time, but it looks like our "beloved" Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber has finally done it. He has finally gone off the deep end and made his sequel to The Phantom of the Opera. I read about it the RUG website so it's not just hearsay or something I can just throw out the window.
Anyway, all I've got is that it's a sequel coming out in 2009--I assume to the West End first--and is going to be directed by Jack O'Brien ( two time Tony winning director, blah blah blah ). And that's it. Does anybody know anything about it? Is it going to be based off that horrible book ( Phantom of Manhattan )? Will Erik even be in it? Anything?
So depressed and so in need of answers now. ._. Why, Andrew? Why?!
