Lots to say about Burning Man, just as soon as I find the time to say it.

For now, some thoughts I ran across that I like:

Life isn't about how to survive the storm, but how to dance in the rain.

The true man wants two things: danger and play. For that reason he wants woman, the most dangerous plaything. -- Friedrich Nietzsche

Well, I'm in Denver playing Magic Again. I got my second ever feature match (I'm so pseudo-famous!) and made the top 64 cut to the second day of the tournament. Yay!

Bedtime, must rest for the next day of the tournament.

Much love to everyone in Seabeck!

Unfortunately, the Dante production I wanted to say was delayed until September. Fortunately, there was an ear-catching musical group visiting from San Francisco also at the festival. Their only instrument was a Thimbeltron, which I leave it for you to discover the nature of. Here's a song an interesting video of theirs:

Incidentally, these folks run the radio station at Black Rock City.

Music:Lake of Fire - Meat Puppets

Well, it turns out I'm a bit behind on posting the images of my life. Here's a few to catch you up:

1) My brother. The waiter upsold us more naan than we needed, but we weren't going to let it go to waste! Jaunty cheapeau, no? 2) Hanging out with my mother on our hometown beach, waiting for the 4th of July fireworks. 3 & 4) The 4th of July didn't wait for my house, it attacked it! I returned to Seattle from Chicago quite amused to find my house covered in flags, stars, and streamers all celebrating the birth of our nation. 5 & 6) Michelle and I climbing the largest stamp in the world, a lifelong dream of hers.

Music:Oh, Me - Meat Puppets

I am now living in Cleveland. I have an apartment and a bed and a TV and a guitar and everything. I had some initial concerns that I was going to have a hard time finding friends or things to do here, but those are melting quickly away. I seem to have more or less struck gold both weekends I've been here, and met a bevy of interesting folks.

This weekend seems to be a particularly lucky weekend to be a newcomer to Cleveland. They are holding the Ingenuity Fest, which is pretty much just a showcase for regional technologists and artists to show off things that they've been working on. Last night I walked into a showcase in which enthusiasts about anything could should 20 slides and get 20 seconds to talk about each slide. Highlights included an art gallery owner giving a rapid social diatribe about Andy Warhol, pop music, the Gap, contemporary art, and McDonalds; a photographer presenting his Mythology series (examples below); and the city's composting crusader talking about the web of life and showing off pictures of worms going through their life cycle (including worm sex)! Also pretty cool was a group of "urban lumberjacks" who go into homes slated to be demolished, cut out all the old growth wood, and then "upcycle" it into beautiful furniture. (I'm shocked to have learned sustainability lingo in Cleveland that I didn't learn in Seattle.)

Anyhow, I found out that a lot of the neat stuff happening in the city is organized by a cabal of young architects, and they taught me the secret handshake. I'm looking forward to seeing what else they get up to.

Tonight I go to see Dante's Inferno done with paper puppets and "handmade special effects inspired by Victorian-era toy theater."

I'm back in Seattle for a little while.

For anyone who's interested: Game Night tomorrow (5/8) at 7:30 PM. I'm going to try to pick up a copy of Agricola, as it sounds really interesting, is well reviewed, and I've never played it before. If anyone has it, they should bring it!

Hmm, I was going to post a lengthy entry, but I am tired and not feeling well. Instead, here is my new favorite painting in MOMA:

It's good to know there are people out there with my sense of humor to a T.

I'm amazingly behind on my blogging, but sometimes the price for a great party must be paid!

When I went to Philadelphia for a Magic tournament last month I was expecting to be unimpressed with the city. I somehow remembered it as being run down, dirty, and not having much to offer other than some historic locations. When my friend Zaiem decided he wanted to go for a walk to get a Philly Cheese Steak I found how wrong I was. The city is clean and covered in beautiful murals:

Fill your screen with huge pictures! )

I also played in the largest Magic Tournament ever held in North America and finished 22nd. Fun, fun!

For James' birthday we went down to the Fun Zone in Tukwila (not in Leipzig, as my iPhone thinks!). We played a bunch of laser tag, and then all used our premium ride passes to stage a massive bumper car rally (I knocked not one, but two of my rival racers sideways!) Fortunately, even if the iPhone thinks Germany is part of Washington State, it can still take pictures. Overall, we had a blast!

Went and saw Mr. Marmalade at the Washington Ensemble Theater. I think everyone found the show engaging, and at points downright hilarious. I give the show the thumbs up, it's worth checking out.

If it's good enough for the birds, it's good enough for me.

I've opened all the windows to let the house air out. Out with the old, in with the new.

If you haven't done it yet, listen to Beirut! The Flying Club Cup and Gulag Orkestar are both amazing, though I lean slightly toward the former.

The Magic tournament up in Vancouver was good times. I was covered in a feature match, so now I'm still not even remotely famous: http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=mtgevent/gpvan08/blog2#10 .

While up there, I awoke each morning to a lovely view of their port:

And drank the prettiest glass of orange juice I've ever had:

Mostly, though, I just played Magic! One team ("Team Decepticons") had some really rad shirts:

I just barely missed qualifying for the pro tour again, losing my very last round to a difficult matchup. Next time, Gadget, next time!

Subject:Anonymous vs. Church of Scientology
Security:Public

This picture is not from a movie set:

Instead, it is from the recent protest by Anonymous of Church of Scientology sites worldwide. In case you missed it, Anonymous (a collective of hackers) has declared its intent to disassemble the Church of Scientology due to its allegedly criminal and abusive nature.

Anonymous has made a series of YouTube videos declaring and talking about its intentions. The first one can be found here:

I will be curious to see how the struggle between Anonymous and the Church of Scientology goes. I expect a series of arrests or lawsuits against the Anonymous members who showed up to protest and forgot to wear a mask. My understanding is that the Church of Scientology had many of its private detectives documenting who was protesting them and following some home.

"Fucking rise up, sons and daughters of the Internet. Rise the fuck up and stay up. Let 'em know we'll take the fight to them, and that we'll help every single person that wants to leave the cult. We have lawyers and social workers and therapists in our ranks, and we can, and will, give aid to those who want out. We are Anonymous. For the lulz, but moar than that now. For teh most epic win. Revoke Scientology's tax-exempt status. Great Justice for Lisa McPherson."

There seem to be upsides to choosing a Grammy winning president... maybe we can get a musical State of the Union address next year?
