10:07 am - ch-ch-ch-changes
|
I need a change. This involves moving someplace else. Various and sundry friends around the country, but in particular ATL, anybody got any job leads for someone who has spent the last decade running a projector, hustling crap on eBay, and generating no actual work experience or job skills.
Being able to lie like a rug as a reference would probably help, too.
I know you people are going to suggest I tend bar someplace, but I fear that I would be THE WORST ONE EVER, think "DRINK NAZI: NO DRINK FOR YOU!". Also: places probably like more experience than "throws parties that make people wake up the next day in questionable conditions".
Anyway, timeline is August-September or so.

7:32 am - LOL Republicans
|
G.O.P. votes against Mother's Day. They also ate up a good half-hour by having 30 of them slowly change their votes one at a time, 15 from Y to N, and 15 from N to Y. Wooo-hoo democracy in action. I hear the next step is to start holding their breath until they get what they want on the Supplemental Spending Bill.
LOLDONGS
edit: to be fair about 1/3 of the G.O.P. congress-critters are voting against John Boehner's retarded third-grade temper-tantrum strategy.
edit: closer reading showed me what really happened.
Vote 1 - The Bill Vote 2 - The vote to table the motion to reconsider votes. The motion to reconsider votes only takes two people. Vote 3 - The vote to adjourn the House, which seems to be brought up whenever all the current bills being considered have been cleared.
This ate up 50 minutes. They are doing this on EVERYTHING.

If someone has a laptop with windows media player 10 installed that I could potentially borrow for the duration of the Thursday night party as a music player, I need it as a contingency/Plan B for music delivery. It can be an old hunk of junk, as long as it has WM10 and a USB port.

10:18 pm - Birthday Warning
|
chasing_amber already posted about hers co-inciding with frolicon, so fair warning.
My birthday is March 22, which is SATURDAY night at the con. People that are throwing parties, thrown them louder. If you get teh makeouts, smootch harder. If you are drinking, drink another. If you are chemically assisted, pass that shit. I want the hard-to-obtain but ultimately desirable "ADVENTURE INTO THE NIGHT" experience. I want to become possessed by the ghost of Hunter S. Thompson.
Let's all make it a night to remember AND regret.

4:17 pm - it's always a weird day
|
Even though he doesn't see this, happy birthday to my brother.
It's also the birthday of dawnmarie so this date is always happy/sad.
I would have started needling her today about hurrying up and getting hitched up with somebody, or the contingency plan for "not married by 35" would would have kicked in next year. Though she probably would have bumped that benchmark back to 40 by now.
Shit, her ghost is going to come get me for retroactively giving away her year of birth, LOLZ.
It will be a fabulous ghost, at any rate.

3:47 am - ATL peeps
|
I'll be in town today for some card nerd stuff, but should be free and clear by 9-10 p.m. Anything going on? I know the Spook Show is going down at the Plaza, but I'll probably have card nerds in tow and want to take them someplace seedy with seedy types, and would prefer to be around seedy types I know in case card-nerds-out-of-their-element fail to entertain me.
The Clermont is all DJ discofunk hipster night on Sat. night these days, if I remember correctly?
Edit: just checked what's up at Star Bar and EARL... meh. If all else fails, there's Highlander or the Yacht Club.

3:09 pm - Dragon Con reservation made
|
Got rooms at the Hyatt. Like people have said, you have to ask for "in-house reservations".
I HIGHLY suggest everyone get rooms IMMEDIATELY, because of the football game. The Dragon Con rooms are blocked off, but the info on getting rooms by saying you are part of Dragon Con is already out there on 'Bama and Clemson message boards.

1:50 pm - Jonestown Thursday Night Happening
|
Just a heads up for everyone, I haven't found a name that sings to me yet, but I have picked the theme for this year. Figured I'd post it so people can start working on outfits to wear. Once the muse of parties gives me an appropriate name from the ether, I will post a flyer here, but for now...

Theme is Mod/Swinging London. You can go online and research Mod fashion and there's all sorts of stuff. The keyword for the ladies would be "Mary Quant".
Musical selection will be period music from London, plus what the mods were listening to from the U.S (i.e. Motown/Stax). Those from NOLA know what to expect, as you have probably been to "Mod Dance party" down there.
I know I always go on about not repeating, and this may seem like "Electric Psychedelic Pussycat Swingers Club Redux", but that was more about 1966-1969, this is about 1963-1965. People in flower children outfits will be glared at and shunned (shuuuuuuuunnnnnnnn!). If you want to go that route, be more Maynard G. Krebs/old skewl beatnik, plz.

Also, room blocks for Dragon Con have opened up. Was there ever a consensus on moving the "ususal suspects' liver assault" to the Marriott in '08 to avoid the ever-increasing Hyatt clusterfuck? Just want to know where to book it.

8:56 am - Video Show and Tell: To Perform an Unnatural Act
|
A posthumous animated version of a famous Lenny Bruce routine that screams out "Early 1970's", "Thank You, Mask Man" was directed by Bay-Area filmmaker John Magnuson. This was one of the routines entered into evidence in the Cafe Au Go Go obscenity prosecution of Lenny Bruce. So watch it with the knowledge that saying this stuff on stage in 1964 was enough to get you arrested.
