Mood: sleepy

After a recent stay in a 5 star hotel, I realized that a good pillow is essential to a good night's sleep. Haven't really given it much thought before, but I found the down pillows in the hotel so comfortable that I wanted to repeat the experience at home.

After a morning's shopping at Myer, I am now the proud owner of two 100% down pillows and some luxurious suedette pillowcases. Can't wait to go to bed tonight to try them out.

I have always been aware of the hairdressers' tendency to discuss all things personal with their clients and always try to discourage this without being rude. You understand then that I was a little wary of the new and unknown hairdresser that was assigned to cut my hair today as she appeared to be very chatty. We stuck to pleasantries to start with and talked about various newsworthy topics. I fended off her personal inquisitions a little here and there and asked her a few question to change the direction the conversation was going.

AND THEN .... she somehow got onto the subject of her personal experiences with Brazilian waxing and rattled on about the pros and cons, tips and techniques. Now I would be happy to discuss the subject with some of my female friends, but I must admit that this was way more information about this women than I would EVER want to know. But as she was the one with scissors I nodded and made sympathetic noises in the right places, but truth be told, I just couldn't wait to get out of there.

I think I know now why men go to barbers.

Back from Brisbane and ready to roll again. Spent far too much money of course, but it was good to catch up with the family and enjoy the warmer weather. Made me remember how I miss the warm weather ... sigh!

Found some new aussie bands to catch up with ... End of Fashion, and Iota ... massively popular in Brisbane. Will have to check them out in Sydney some time.

Now where are those books!

Subject:The Fish

Mood: guilty

I am looking after a fishtank of tropical fish for a friend who is interstate on work for the next month or two. I really know nothing about fish but these ones live in a high tech tank which does everything and even has an automatic food dispenser, so I figured it couldn't be too hard.

Yesterday I went to have a look at them and all seemed well. I lifted the lid off the tank to have a better look at the water temperature and when I set it down again it somehow set off the automatic food feeder ... once .... twice .... three times. PANIC !!! The fish tank seemed to be filling up with confetti like flakes and the fish went into a feeding frenzy.

After some consideration I decided that the lid was pressing on the feed button, so I made a few adjustments to the position of the feeder and propped up the lid with a pink kitchen sponge which the fish started to show great interest in. They probably thought it was a BIG piece of food.

I really hope they survive my efforts.

I have been mucking around in the twilight zone today, spending time and effort to rid myself of those nasty browser hijackers which have been inundating me with pop up ads.

It was like deja vu again and again. No matter how many times I deleted files and cleaned up the registry ... hey presto ... there they were again. I finally found a great piece of software called hijackthis which allows you to delete all those unhelpful browser helpers which I suspected were the source of my problems.

Fingers crossed, all is quiet on the popup front at the moment andI needed a diversion from studying for exams anyway.

My homepage has a daily update for horoscopes which I usually glance at, and today I was a bit depressed to find the following was in store for me:

Nothing

I am hoping it was some sort of oversight.

I was waiting in line for the traffic lights to change today, listening to a joke on the radio ....

It went something like this:

David Beckham says to wife Posh: "Posh, Posh, 47 days, 47 days, it took me 47 days to finish this jigsaw puzzle."

"I looked on the side of the box and it said 3 to 6 years!"

Well I started to laugh after I heard this and so did the guy in the car beside me, and he kind of caught my eye as we were
both laughing. We just knew we were laughing at the same thing ... so he gave me a wink, the lights changed, and we drove off on our separate ways.

I went to see an open house for sale today in an inner city suburb, and immediately fell in love with it. It has everything that my house doesn't ie pressed metal ceilings. stained glass windows, fireplaces in the bedrooms and lounge and a lovely cottage garden albeit with a not so cottagy plam tree in the corner.

Although on the negative side it didn't have some things that my house does ie; double garage, pool, two bathrooms , no traffic problems, shopping centre within walking distance, a park over the road, bike paths etc. Oh and no aircraft noise!

Subject:Those boys

Mood: happy

About two years ago, the local butchers changed hands and the guy who bought it employed the three most singularly desirable butchers in the world to work in it. I am not sure if it was a marketing ploy, but it has been very successful. The new boys are tall, good looking and flirt like mad with every female customer, winking, smiling, making witty conversation ... it's all in a day's work for those guys and my god are they good at it.

I will admit to sometimes in the middle of the week patronising the butcher's rather than buying the meat from Woolies, but I draw the line at competing on the weekend as there is usually a queue twenty deep of young pretty girls buying their chops and whatnots from the boys.

I noticed with amusement today that in the school newsletter there is a special note to the mums informing them that the boys are now doing home deliveries ..... WOW ... I bet that's a popular service.

Last night in the middle of my dreams I heard a bloodcurdling roar from a wild animal. I woke up shaking, only to hear it roar again, only this time it was very real and somewhere down the hallway.

I decided to investigate and made my way down the dark hallway and was just near the bathroom when I heard it again..... ROAR ROAR ROAR.

I bravely flung open the door and switched on the light, only to see a tiny plastic dinosaur sitting on the side of the bath, eyes lit up and somehow activating its own battery powered roar.

When I was small I used to believe that toys came to life in the night when no one was looking ... perhaps I still do.

It is said that on average, most people will have five careers over their lifetime.

If we consider the term career very loosely, then I am about to embark on career number four.

Career one was during my school years when I worked part time and during the vacactions in the local hot bread kitchen and cake shop. That one left me a dab hand at mental arithmetic, slicing bread and cleaning.

Career two was in an office as an accounts clerk while I was studying accounting part time. That job left me with an appreciation of balancing accounts and an in depth knowledge of the workings of the taxation department. Very handy.

Career three was a computer programmer which taught me rational problem solving and the ability to operate 40 hours without any sleep. It also provided me with an appreciation of beer and pizza.

Career four is as a teacher, and I am currently learning more than my students.

Can't wait to see what career number five will be.

The weather is decidedly chilly today and one great advantage of this is that I can now wear my new boots that I bought 6 months ago in the sales. I wore them out to lunch today much to the admiring comments of my friends and I love the fact that they make me nearly 6ft tall.

A bit hard to drive in though ... but I managed.

I got a call from a neighbour yesterday inviting me to the drive-in movies last night. I can hardly remember the last time I went to the drive in, but thought it would be a bit of fun, so off we went.

Now I have to explain that I have a new car that is less than a week old and I am not sure how all the accessories work at the moment, so I had to laugh as I struggled to open the windows to pay to get in, couldn't remove my key from the iginition because I forgot to take the car out of gear, and worse still had to get the manual out to figure out how to tune the radio to the frequency for the movie.

However, the movie was funny, and I stuffed myself with marshmellows and coke, so had a good time in all.

Mood: mischievous

I have been following with amusement the media frenzy whipped up by the tabloids reporting the alleged playing away antics of English soccer player David Beckham, arguably one of the best performers on and off the field so it would appear.

I noted in one of the news editorials a warning from a well meaning older male journalist that a fling with Becks was not worth the worldwide shame and humiliation that the women involved would have to endure.

Personally, I am not so sure about that so set out today to find out if my friends would be up for a bit of a fling with Becks and be willing to hang the consequences. Without exception my female friends, married, partnered and single, reported being willing to suffer the supposed shame and humiliation for just one night with Becks. No-one wanted him as a long term option mind you, just a bit of er fun, txt and apologies all round if found out.

Of course, it has to be said that the results of this survey do not necessarily reflect the views of this writer.

I read somewhere recently that you know you are a true Sydneysider ...

If you live south of the bridge and you never go north and vice versa.
If you live west and you never go east and vice versa.
You've visited Homebush Bay since the Olympics.
You've jogged around Centennial Park.
You've walked across the bridge, climbed the bridge, broken down on the bridge, called it the bridge and expect everyone to know which one you're talking about.
You still call Sydney Tower "Centrepoint", Telstra Stadium "Homebush", Aussie Stadium "the SFS" and Wonderland Sydney "Australias Wonderland".

Which reminds me, sadly Wonderland Sydney is about to shut its doors for the last time next weekend, so I took the opportunity yesterday to visit one more time to experience a freefall on the space probe, a soaking on the river rampage and a scream on the demon rollercoaster!
All good stuff!

I have always been strangely drawn to the painting of Der Kuss (The Kiss) by Gustav Klimt which depicts a couple entwined in an embrace. It's quite a popular print that you can buy at K-Mart nowadays, but I have always felt that it has a somewhat vague but special significance to me. I was reminded of this yesterday when visiting a friends new house, and there it was again, framed beautifully and hanging on their lounge room wall.

So today I took the plunge and ordered my very own print of Der Kuss. Not just a normal print though as this one is printed with foil and metallic ink for affect. Should take a couple of weeks to be framed and then I have a spot for it to hang in my bedroom on the wall at the foot of my bed.
