Hello and welcome to yuri_challenge! This challenge designed to encourage the creation of fan works about all-female pairings - yuri, femslash, whatever you want to call it, that's what this comm is about. Participation is open to everyone; please feel free to join us and contribute or simply enjoy.
Though the community is named yuri_challenge, we are not anime/manga-exclusive! We happily accept content from any fandom (anime, manga, book, TV show, etc).
In each challenge, users are asked to submit prompts, based on a chosen theme. The mods collect these prompts and assemble them into a claims post, which is then submitted to the community. Users can then claim any prompt from the challenge. Completed works are then posted to the community.
How many claims can I make?
Each user may make two claims total, for either fanfiction or fanart. If you complete your claims before the deadline, and wish to claim more, you may do so. Each prompt may be claimed only once for fiction and once for art. Once claimed, no others may post for that prompt except yourself, unless you default or otherwise drop the claim.
What are the length and quality requirements?
Fanfiction for the main rounds should be at least 1000 words long, and should not contain text-speak or a reckless disregard for spelling and/or grammar. We're not asking for textbook perfection, but we would prefer all stories be readable. Fanart for the main round is more open to your own discretion, but the image should be of decent size and quality - more than a simple sketch, no stick figures or doodles on lined paper.
Lightning rounds are more loose in their requirements; for authors, lightning challenge entries should be 300 words or less (preferably of a round number like 100, 200 etc). For artists, sketches are acceptable on these types of challenges only.
Can I prompt for threesomes/moresomes?
Yes, as long as everyone involved in the relationship is physically female.
Can I prompt for transgendered characters?
Again, yes, as long as everyone involved in the relationship is physically female. Mostly we just want to avoid quibbles over "this isn't what I came to this community for." This does not reflect upon the beliefs or opinions of the community's moderators. Thanks for understanding.
Can I prompt crossovers?
Can I prompt Real Person Fiction/Slash?
We do not accept prompts or claims regarding Real Person Fiction/Slash (RPF/RPS), as this community is about the characters, not the people playing them. Again, this does not reflect upon the beliefs or opinions of the community's moderators. Thanks for understanding.
How do I make my claim?
Please do so in the most recent claims post. Please note you must do so before the round's deadline.
What if I can't finish my claim by the deadline?
If you know you can't finish the story before the deadline, we ask that you please notify the moderators in the prompt submission post by the defaulting deadline to avoid any penalties. This post's comments are screened and will not be seen by anyone besides the mods. Notifying the mods that your claim cannot be finished on time is known as "defaulting." Your unfinished prompt will now be listed as unclaimed for others to pick up.
If you default on a claim without notifying us by the proper date, you will not be allowed to make any claims in the next challenge for a week after the claims post has been created. If you default in another successive round without notification, you will be disqualified from participating in any further challenges. If you complete your second-round challenge on time, you will be removed from the penalty list.
Is there a way around the defaulting penalty?
Any claims not picked up by the final claims date for the round will be compiled into its own special post. This post can be used as a basis between rounds to earn back your "default without notice" status. In effect, choose any of the prompts not completed in the previous round (which may include the one you defaulted!), post your submission to the community and the mods will remove you from the penalty list. This is called the "Make-up Round." The entry will be tagged as though it is a member of the normal round the prompt originated from, however. Please note if you have defaulted twice without notice, this option is not available to you.
How do I post my submission?
All submissions must be posted directly to the community (not as a link to the writer's journal or another fic-posting site). You can feel free to disable comments on the entry posted directly to the community and then put a link in your entry to comment elsewhere if that is your desire, however we request that you please post it here to directly to keep a proper archive in the event you choose to delete your journal. We also request that you avoid temporary image hosts for fanart submissions. If you require a permanent image host please contact the mods - we'll be happy to help.
The main portion of the submissions must be under an LJ-cut. If you don't know how to use an LJ-cut, please consult this LJ FAQ entry.
Within the subject line of your submission please be certain to format it as: "Fandom - Pairing: Title".
How do I post my submission? cont...
When posting your submission, please copy and paste the following header; it will make things incredibly easy for the mods to tag your posts~ :D
While we do not want to ban outright the use of characters who are under the age of 18, we ask that characters under the age of 18 are not involved in graphic sexual situations. If the character is of a questionable age in canon, and you intend upon having them in a graphic sexual situation, we request that you note if you have aged them up in your header.
We also ask that anyone who is posting something which is graphic in nature (sexual or otherwise) to judiciously use the built-in LJ Content Tagging System. Thank you.
If you have any questions, or if you wish to place an advertisement in our comm, please feel free to notify the mods.
Again, welcome to yuri_challenge, and thank you for coming!

This go-around, we're going to be taking the "challenge" part out of our name, and let things fly~~!
Prompt submissions open on Sunday, May 8th, 2011. For this round, there are no limits or caps on the number of prompts. It is a total Free-for-All Round! Submit as many as you'd like~
Your prompts may be either words/lyrics/written (in which case we request that you limit it to 30 words or less) or even a picture/image/fanart! If you are prompting with an image, please be certain that it is linked someplace anonymous like ImageShack. NO PHOTOBUCKET. Thank you.
Also, you do not have to make a claim in order to prompt, so please add to the writing fun! :D
The prompts must be in the following format:
Fandom - Pairing: Prompt
If your fandom is Japanese, we ask that you please use the Japanese name to avoid confusion over which name to use in our tagging system. (Noted exceptions are: Detective Conan and Phoenix Wright series.)
For the pairing name please provide both their first and last name if it's known in canon. If you're going to be choosing a Japanese fandom please provide the character's family name first, unless the character specifically introduces themselves with given name first to others. (Such as non-Japanese characters in an anime.)
Claims will be opened on Saturday, May 21st, 2011. All claims must be made by Saturday, June 25th, 2011.
For this round, you can post at any time after you've had your claim confirmed by a mod in the Claims post. There's no "minimum amount of time" that must take place before you post. When it's finished, feel free to throw it out there!
Please see the community's info page regarding questions on defaulting for this round.
All submissions must be posted no later than the end of the day on Friday, July 1st, 2011 to be considered not defaulted. The Master List will be posted shortly thereafter.
There will be weekly "lightning" rounds posted throughout the round to keep everyone sufficiently entertained. These are entirely optional, do not need to be nor will they be "claimed," and we encourage you to participate at your leisure! Lightning prompts can be submitted for at any time for the round it was posted. In other words, any lightning prompt tagged with Round 10 is free game to post at any time during this round!
If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact the mods.
