Because Fiction is the Language of Love

We've all been there at one point or another. Your favorite pirate needs a Spanish phrase. There's a Saint sitting at the table that's supposed to speak Italian, but the best you can do is itallics.

Free translations services? Please. You just know that someone somewhere is laughing themselves silly because your Navy Lieutenant just said something about a purple elephant is his sexy French voice. So what's a writer to do?

Well, hopefully, come here and beg someone who actually speaks the language to help you. Pretty cool idea, no? Now let's see if it works...

The Rules
1. This community is not for translating songs, entire texts, web pages, or anything like that. It's for getting some help with phrases that you need in your fiction. A few lines, that sort of thing. Remember that we're asking people for their help - let's not take advantage of it too much.

2. If you actually know another language, please volunteer your help! We can't offer much in the line of incentives, unfortunately, but you can rest easier at night knowing that you've helped out a desperate writer who otherwise would be in the midst of a neurotic frenzy because they don't know how to say "Look out for the killer bunny!" in German.

3. I used to be part of a community that would put Hi Opal here. Why? Because a list just isn't a list without a number 3.

4. Posts in the memories are organized by language. You might comment to one of those to be sure and catch our volunteers' attention. If the language you need isn't in the memories, then feel free to just make a general Help Me! sort of post.

5. If you feel the need to introduce yourself, please feel free to use the Meme thread.

If you need any help, please feel free to contact either roadparty or mlewys. Our contact info, including IM names, is in our userinfo.

Other Great Resources
little_details - I'm a little late joining this community, which offers an absolutely amazing knowledge base to writers, and even later noticing that they linked to us. So, hey! A link back. Yay!
