Summary:Unable to Post
Original Request:
When I try to post, this has been happening for about 5 days. I was able to post a really short post testing my ability to post, it worked and then my ability to post stopped and went back to the same problem I've had. Every time I submit a post, this is what happens:

No data received
Unable to load the webpage because the server sent no data.
Here are some suggestions:
Reload this webpage later.
Error 324 (net::ERR_EMPTY_RESPONSE): The server closed the connection without sending any data.

When I use LogJam to attempt to post, I get this error:

Connection terminated unexpectedly

Comments are also not going through at all.

Thank you for your report and I am sorry for the delay in responding. What method are you using to post that's resulting in the "Error 324" message?

If you are using the website to create your entries and getting the "Error 324" message, this may indicate an issue with the connection between your computer and LiveJournal's servers. So that the Support team can investigate further, could you please run a traceroute to sip.services.livejournal.com and paste the results as a reply to this request?

In case you need them, instructions on how to perform a traceroute and copy the results may be found at [http://howto.livejournal.com/42062.html], or through a search engine. Thank you for your assistance.

Not a problem! i appreciate the help and understand it can take a bit to respond. :)

I'm using both the website and the LogJam client for Linux to try and post, but LogJam gives me an error message of 'Connection terminated unexpectedly' when I submit my post. My phone looks like it may be working via T-Mobile data, except the LJ app crashes constantly (I have a myTouch 4G Slide).

This is what I got from running a traceroute to sip.services.livejournal.com:

(Apologies… having to do multiple replies.)

(Sorry if you didn't want all the asterisk lines, I figured I'd include everything up until it was ready for another command.)

Looking at troubleshooting, I'm wondering if clearing my DNS cache would solve the problem? If you think that might be or is the solution, is there a way to clear it for just LJ-related pages (only LJ is acting up) or do I have to clear everything? I clear my browser cache about once a week otherwise things tend to slow down, so I doubt it's my browser cache. I cleared it when I first had issues and it didn't help.

Anyway! Thank you so much for your help! Apologies for 3 replies, I was unable to post otherwise. :\

Hello sophiee,

I'd like to help find a resolution to this problem, but I need to get a bit more info. So far, we have had only one other report of a similar error. That makes me think this is an isolated problem (something in your configuration causing the issue). I'm not ruling out the possibility that our system is causing this, but I do believe it is unlikely. I have a couple questions for you:
1. If you post something small, does it still work? (from your other communications it appears that it did work, and now it does not. I'm just looking for clarification).
2. If small posts work, how many bytes do you have to post to make it fail? This may take some time to figure out, but it may show us what the actual limit is (and give me something to search for).
3. You said other sites work fine. Have you tried sending a large post to another site?
4. Are you using Mac OS X or Linux, or both? Are they running on the same machine, or do you have a second machine you're testing with?
5. Try to make a large comment (instead of an entry), does that work?
6. You probably are, but I have to ask: Are you logged in or logged out when posting?
7. I understand this has failed in a browser and in LogJam, but have you tried a second browser?
8. Have you tried posting from your laptop on another Internet connection?

I will spend some time trying to reproduce this. Thank you for taking the time to answer my questions.

Warm regards,
David Newhall

Hello Sophie,

My senior admin, Andreas, made some changes in our configuration. Can you let us know if this has alleviated the problem you were experiencing? If not, please do your best to answer my previous questions.

Thank you!
David Newhall
