Summary:html containing wrong size information
Original Request:
I upload a picture to my (new) scrapbook and want to post it to my journal. When it loads the update journal page, it asks me what size I'd like the image to display in. I select '300' and it automatically generate the html and sets the width to 300. This all works perfectly well and so forth, only that the width of the image is actually 225 and not 300. It's the height that is 300 instead. Something got mixed up there and the image is now stretched and looks wrong.

I did fix the html in my entry so it displays at its right size but though you'd like to know that your site is generating not so proper html when posting picture.
Diagnostics: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.0; WOW64; rv:13.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/13.0.1

Thank you for your report. I have tested this in many different ways, and cannot reproduce what you're describing. The update page will correctly include a width="300" tag in all cases, and actually posting the entry results in an image with a width of 300 pixels and a height of 225 pixels.

Yeah but did you check, is the image 300px in width? Because I can reproduce this with a lot of images.

For example:

The image on the right is the way it will post to my journal, given a fault width of 300px and no height at all (note how the picture is blurry and how that tips me off). The image on the left is displayed it its 'real' size of 217x300px. Again the image was given the faulty width of 300px instead of 217px in the LJ generated html.

So what do I do?

As you can see, when an image has more width than height, it will display properly as the 300px attribute is correct. However when an image has more height than width, it will be stretched due the false 300px attribute.

I apologize for the delay in responding to your request. When posting an image to your journal, the size you select is for the width of the image, not the height. Selecting 300 will set the width to 300 and scale the height of the image up or down to keep the same proportions as the original image size. Because the sizes you are selecting for width are larger than the original image's width, it is stretching the images out, resulting in a blurry image. Using the "original" setting when posting the image will result in the image keeping its original size (225 width, 300 height in this case).
