Summary:Chrome also having comment expanding problems
Original Request:
I have not had any problems getting comments to expand until today, and wanted to add that i'm on Chrome 18.0.1025.142 (i swapped over to FF to see if it was a Chrome problem; no dice), and i cannot get comments to expand. Worse, the page totally times out and Chrome returns its "Oh, Snap!" page. This lag and instability then renders *all* LJ pages i have open useless. All the other pages then timeout as well, and i had to close all LJ windows on this browser instance so i could type up this report. I was experiencing significant lag between typing and having text appear in the text boxes. Now it is back to normal. However, i still can't read comments, which is a problem for me as i'm a researcher using LJ as a research fieldsite.

At any rate, wanted to add Chrome to your list of comment expanding issues, and/or bring to the front perhaps a new commenting issue.

More info:

This mainly seems to be a problem on very long comment threads. I am currently having problems on this page:

http://news.livejournal.com/106731.html?page=2#comments

with the thread started by <lj user="redbird">. I cannot get that thread to expand no matter what I try; I can sometimes get one or two individual comments to expand, but past that is impossible. Currently, the page is fully locked up and not responding; I can't even scroll down. Other LJ pages i had open in other tabs have gone totally blank. Smaller comment threads seem to open okay, but larger ones are impossible, even to open comment by comment.

I apologize for the delay in responding to your request. This bug has been reported to LiveJournal developers, and should be fixed in LiveJournal's next release which is tentatively planned for next week. This will be announced at http://lj-releases.livejournal.com/ when the fix is live on the site.

Hi again,

I saw the new release has gone live, and expanding comments is supposed to be working. However... it is still not working on very long comment threads. I attempted to load comments again from the link I listed above. Again, the thread by redbird will not open, and freezes up my browser window (and delays response in other windows, too!).

If i force every community and journal into my own style they open, but otherwise they do not.

Are you still experiencing this issue at this time?

I am still experiencing this issue, even after the latest update, in both Chrome and Firefox. I will say that at least this time, my other LJ sessions don't freeze up while the thread attempts to expand. But i attempted again to open the thread i cited above; it's been 10 minutes and the thread has yet to expand.
