Summary: [BUG] Login does not work if javascript is disabled.
Original Request:
If javascript is disabled, login does not work.
It *seems* to work; you arrive at a page that tells you that you have logged in. https://www.livejournal.com/login.bml (or something like that; I have now logged in and I don't have that page open any more).

But if you then click on your own username (about the only thing you can click on) it turns out you are not logged in at all. You don't get to see locked entries for instance.

Of course javascript should be kept off for security reasons!

But if you turn it on for a bit and then forget to turn it off, many pages keep the "loading' indicator active. Something suspicious is going on there, which makes me trust the site even less.

Also: the new style of the front page (and who knows what else) is horrible horrible horrible!
Diagnostics: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; NetBSD amd64; rv:28.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/28.0

Why was this request closed?

You didn't even let me know.

The site is STILL BROKEN!

I am very angry and this is NOT making it better!

Thank you for your inquiry, and I'm sorry your request was closed. However, I have been unable to duplicate this behavior in Firefox. I have disabled Javascript, and I remain logged in even with it disabled -- I can move around the site, view my protected entries on my journal or Friends page, etc, and I am not logged out.

It is possible your Internet Service Provider uses a caching system, sometimes referred to as "turbo-charged" or "boosted" browsing, to improve overall load times for your entire browsing experience.

For most sites you may visit, this is not an issue. However, LiveJournal serves dynamic content, which is often only visible to logged-in users. When you try to view a new page, you will be served the cached version provided by your ISP instead of the most recent version from LiveJournal. Because of this, you will appear to be logged out when the page loads. This is an issue outside of LiveJournal's control and we encourage you to contact your Internet Service Provider for assistance as they may be able to disable it for your account or for specific sites.

The 'infinite loading' issue (where pages seemed to hang during the loading process) was fixed a few weeks ago, and you should no longer see this behavior.

Thanks for your response. Because you mentioned trying it yourself, I tried it again in a different environment than my usual: a fresh Firefox profile on a different computer. And indeed, I could not reproduce it there either (despite the fact that in my usual browser the login failed several times today). So I'll have to research what it is that causes the problem.

I am also happy to hear that the infinite loading issue was fixed.

I'll close the request now, thanks!
