May 23rd

Got to airport early. Marcia took me there and we had a really good drive over there. When I got there felt like I was supposed to go to girl’s room and as I was there washing my hands this woman came out of the stall and just stood there staring at me and I knew she admired my outfit and sensed something about me that she could not really place. So she was standing there and finally came up to me and said she loved my outfit etc, etc. It was so sweet. Well then it was time to catch my flight and I ended up sitting right next to her and her husband on the plane which was CRAZY because the restroom I went to was not even in my terminal and I went to the restroom a few hours before my flight. But there were her and her husband and I spent the next two hours telling them all about Jesus! They were Methodist and were really open to what I was saying. It was a really powerful time and I am so glad that I got to sit with them. The man got really upset when I told him that I was going to be a missionary in the middle east and kept telling me that I might be killed and was getting even more troubled the longer I went on about my excitement about this trip. I felt sort of bad for him. He had a really good heart though. Glad I got to speak to them.

Then I arrived in Houston and waited for the next leg of my flight to Phoenix. I felt really excited about the trip and wondered how soon I would see mom. I saw her pretty quick and it was so great to see her! We wandered around and then she surprised me by being on the same flight that I was on. That was so great. We sat together and chatted the whole time. She ended up saying that she had bought her ticket incorrectly and was leaving a day earlier than me. I was so upset and the whole flight to Phoenix we were both sort of depressed. Well when we got there and went to ticket agent they said she actually DID get the ticket correctly and there was no problem. So relieved and it worked out perfectly since all that took ages to sort out and by the time we went to get our luggage the luggage handlers were already coming by to take our luggage to some storage place. We got to talk to them about Jesus and it was wonderful. Then got into the towncar that I had gotten for mom and I to get to airport. The guy driving was catholic and he wanted to hear all about being born again etc so we had a total divine appointment and got to speak to him for 45 minutes about the Lord and what it meant to be saved. I think we really provoked him and he had lots of questions.

Got to the hotel and all these people from IHOP were in the lobby. They all approached me saying that they knew me from IHOP because they always saw my skirts, thought I was pretty etc. It was all so sweet of them and totally touched my heart. Then went to our room and it was BEAUTIFUL! It was on the top floor and overlooked the pool. I loved it and was so glad to see mom. Mom had bought me so many gifts and her suitcase was full of food and gifts that she had for me. It was so sweet and it was so good to see her. We ended up soaking for awhile and it was quite restful and then went to get ready for service. Service was something like 8:30 but since I was a partner I got to go in early every day and get us good seats. What fun. John Arnott preached and I have been under such heaviness/depression/sorrow every day due to my Daniel situation I simply could not focus as I wanted to on the worship or message. My heart was totally in a place of raw pain and I was crying out for God to help my heart in some way. I was tired of spending all day in prayer and nothing shifting inside of me in terms of the pain my heart is in. It was so horrid. Mom would get near me and feel something like searing pain in her heart and ask what was going on and I would tell her that was how my heart felt. She felt so bad for me and wished she could help in some way. She kept laying hands on my heart but it did not really help too much. I tried to move out of this place of rawness but to no avail. I paced during worship and one of the usher paced the opposite way I was and kept giving me funny looks. I sensed he thought I was into witchcraft or something and I felt really bad for him for thinking such things about me.

Tonight heard the Lord speak only a few words to me: Mahreen open up your brain. You must discover and know who I am. Open up your brain.

Hmmm…I know I am being so close minded right now and shutting him out so much because my heart is in so much pain every day due to not being with Daniel right now. And not knowing if that will ever change or what God is going to do with me. I feel like He does not really care about my heart and I can’t stop feeling so hurt and betrayed by Him. I am hoping this conference will help heal my heart and somehow get me back on track again…

Cambridge

I love the water. For being a Sagittarius, I have a very strong attatchment to the ocean and pools and whatnot.

I always feel good when I'm swimming, floating around on the surface of a pool. There's no better feeling in the entire world.

That's probably why I will never honestly leave Florida. Or, if I leave Florida, I demand there be some form of water retardedly closeby.

End of story.

Time for some video games, I think. Self-soothing is in order. Tonight could be too much to handle in the morning, we'll see though.

It's going to go one of three ways, though: A) He tells me to leave him alone and that he does, B) He's going to tell me he wants to try and hook up (Which would make me a very happy panda, ladies and gents), or C) He's going to say he just wants to be friendlies (Which would not be the worse thing, either).

Hoping for B or C. And we'll see. :)

Anyways. KH II.

Feliz Navidad, bitches.

75 miles
So very tired right now.  Since I missed the club ride this morning, I struck out on my own.  I went through town to the Gateway Trail then followed country roads to Marine on St. Croix.  Sarah met me there after work and we had ice cream cones and visited for a while before it was time for me to turn around and ride home.  After about an hour break though, my legs weren't feeling the freshest and they didn't get any better for the whole ride home.

Still, I'm not going to say it was a bad ride, just long.  My longest ride ever in fact.  75 miles is three whole miles farther than I rode when I was 13 or 14.  HA!  Cross that old personal best off the list.

Time to be horizontal for an hour and a half or so now until I leave to go play poker at Ed's.  Should be fun if I can stay awake.

Simple pleasure - talkin' bikes with a random cyclist along the way
Peace

If you know me then you know how I feel about religion. If you feel the need to subscribe to a “higher power”, that is all fine and dandy. But never push your crack onto me. When I was in high school, I would let in Jehovah witnesses (the door to door one) inside when no one else was home and get into heated debates. This involved debating the “elder” while the “apprentice” usually just listened. I always loved the seeds of doubt show on the apprentice’s face as the elder could never provide any solid answers to my arguments. Usually, they always fall back on one word: faith. Logic and common sense be damned.
Anyway, an old friend we used to work with got in tough with us via emails. She completely corrupted one of our other good friend (married him) by indoctrinating him into a Jesus cult. I’m still pissed about that but our friend is his own person and what he believes is what he believes. He tried to dissuade us into the cult but I had to give him the Heisman. Not going to happen. So she writes about this and that and asks about our lives. We decide to mess with her with some wild stories that sounded truly absurd but she believed them all. Weak minds are weak minds. We never took it that far since messing with gullible fools is only entertaining to a certain point.

Gaming – WoW
Got to do some BGs with the Lloyd. I feel bad for him since he is not allowed to play any reindeer games since he doesn’t have the gear. So every time he is on, I try to help him out. He can join supergrant in the guilds daily raid crap. My guild mains are so geared out already, I really don’t stand to upgrade on the raids except for kara badge runs. Only pvp holds any recourse and that will soon plateau. Now I’m putting more effort into the rogue and warrior since they have little gear and I want to get the hunter to 70 to get him into pvp before the expansion.

Anime – World Destruction
I was finally able to get the subs to work on the second episode. I had to do a little research about it. The (.ass) sub file was not recognized by vlc but according to the specs, the current version should have been able to read it. I found that (.ssa) and (.ass) are the same format so I just changed the file to (.ssa) from (.ass) and BAM, the sub works perfectly now. Maybe this is a Mac thing. Anyway, I only got to watch ½ the episode this morning but it was pretty good. I love the animation.

Anime – One Piece
The past Saturday’s episode was subbed and released by INP. It showcased the entire Zoro/Ryuma fight and I loved the animation. This is what I imagined when I first read the fight in the manga. So much better animated with all the sound and visual effects. The manga does not show the tremendous power the two duelists possess (it is implied though Brooke’s narration). Seeing the fight animated, it definitely showcases the ridiculous power they have. The one part that really sticks out is when Brooke marvels at their skills fighting on the uneven and broken surface of the tower. The manga didn’t really highlight that and we had to take Brooke’s word that it was so. Animated they did a ton of fancy maneuvering by constantly readjusting for the uneven surfaces while laying on some pretty brutal attacks on each other. These are the kind of scenes that can only be given justice in animation. This fight will surely be youtube fodder for sure.
Anime – new
I downloaded another new summer anime but I forgot the name of it. This one had a Japanese title instead of the favored English titles that Mangaka love to name their manga (One Piece, Dragonball, Bleach, Satan666, HunterxHunter, Vanguard, Berserk, Eyeshield, etc.). I didn’t watch it yet. Something about a dude seeing spirits and guiding them to someplace. Kind of Sixth Sense and Bleach mixed up together.

Gaming – Star Wars
A new MMO has been announced in the Star Wars universe. Basically it is a KOTOR MMO. This was what everyone was saying before SWG was released. That KOTOR should have been the setting for a Star Wars MMO. Now that reality has come to fruition. If it comes to the 360, I might just pick it up.

Jill - not so Vicious?
So this is what's currently on my mind:

I got the "Wardrobe Speech" at work, for the second time in the last six months.

I enjoy dressing like a punker college student. The main things are I'm not a college student anymore, nor is it workplace-appropriate.

For the second time, my boss asked me if I had anything nicer to wear. Well, the short answer is no. The reasons:

- I've never had an inclination to put an effort into how I look.
- I don't generally have money for nice clothes.
- I don't care.
- I like the usual jeans and t-shirt and hoodie.
- I don't want to feel like I look like everyone else.

But... I caved, and went shopping after work today. The retail therapy was nice, actually, even if what I bought is way out of the realm of normal for me. I bought a few not-too casual tops, that would dress up a standard pair of black jeans. You know, easy to wear and care for, but it wasn't emblazoned with skulls (sadly). I also got a couple accessories - nothing too much, just a necklace and a few bangles.

It was ridiculously expensive (I'm plus-size, everything costs more - extra fabric, you know), and one thing that bothers me is that I have no real use for such garments outside the 9-5. That bothers me because it's like I'll never actually enjoy wearing something I spent that much money on. I only bought a couple things, because I figured baby steps would be better than one big leap of fail.

I suppose the next step of compliance for the bossman would be to take out piercings - that's a hell no. He also doesn't know about my dreads, but I know he suspects something is going on under the hat.

I didn't get into my field to ditch my appearance. I got in because I love what I do. My wardrobe should take a backseat to that. This whole grown-up thing sucks.

On a side note, the last time I bought something from the same store, I bought a knit black-and-gray striped hooded pullover sweater. I like it. I wore it while I was on vacation; one night we had a bonfire, and it got cool. So my mom, who was with me when I bought it, asked "Where'd you break out of jail?" Hardy-har-har. This from the woman who hates the way I normally dress. I make one "improvement" and she laughs at me for it. Bitch.

Only 40 are going to be made (as of now), and will be raffled off in the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Berlin to people who are rich enough to attend. More gaudiness after the jump. [eMercedes Benz]

Mobile Edge TSA Compliant Laptop Bags For Speedy Trips Through Security [Laptops]

We have known for quite some time that the TSA would allow companies to develop "checkpoint friendly" laptop cases—and now the first products are beginning to roll out to the masses. The ScanFast collection from Mobile Edge is among these new releases, and their lineup features a backpack, briefcase, and a messenger bag that can allow security personnel to easily view its contents so you never have to remove your laptop. The products are expected to be released "in late summer" but pricing info has not been made public. [Mobile Edge]

Nintendo Says They May Limit Number of Wii MotionPlus Games to Control Costs [Wii MotionPlus]

As we pointed out this week, the Wii's MotionPlus gyroscope add-on could tip the total 4-player price of the system above or equal to the 360 and PS3. Speaking to that point, Nintendo's Katsuya Eguchi told PC Mag that an embedded MotionPlus in future Wiimotes is "something we'll be looking at," which is unfortunately a non-answer. More interesting is that they may instead decide to limit the number of games that can use the accessory. As Mark found out in his hands-on, the 1:1 motion detecting is fantastic, so the plan to embed the tiny gyroscope into the Wiimote itself (at no additional cost to us, right?) seems to be the best scenario for the future rather than put a cap on the games that can take advantage of it. Let's hope. [PC Mag]

Liber Toit Connects Building Roofs via Wall Climbs, Tubes and Slides [Fun]

OK, now this looks fun. The "Liber Toit" is a design for what's essentially a gigantic jungle gym for adults that spans across the roofs of multiple buildings in a city. You can get from building to building via wall climbs, slides, tubes and any number of other insanely-fun looking methods. It's a way to get places while also getting exercise! For the love of everything holy can we please make this happen somewhere? Preferably starting on top of my building? Please?

10 Stress Busting Gadgets That Help You Unwind From a Long Week at Work [Thank Giz It's Friday]

Feeling a little stressed out? Good thing it's Friday—the weekend should offer ample opportunity to unwind. Unfortunately, some of you may be have so much going on that a couple of days off may not do the job. Not to worry, there are plenty of gadgets out there that can help you recover from the stress that a long week at work, a pile of unpaid bills, constant nagging about your "drinking problem" and a mysterious rash can cause.

Stress Toys: Did you know that there are squeezable stress toys for just about any difficult situation? Here are some examples:

I Have a Drinking Problem: The Guinness Stress Pint will help you kick that habit. Available for $4.95. [Guinness]

I'm Sexually Frustrated: Grab a handful of Stressticles squeezable testi-balls and save money on a prostitute. Available for around $10. [Gobaz]

The Copy Machine at Work Sucks: If you can't go "Office Space" on it with a bat, squeezing this copy machine stress toy may be the next best thing. Available for $2.99. [Kleargear]

I Ate a Wheel of Cheese Yesterday and Now I'm Constipated: No problem. Take this toilet stress toy into the bathroom with you and let it work its magic. Available for $1.99. [Office Playground]

A Luxurious Spa Treatment: Perhaps simple stress toys are not enough. What you need to relax is a little time in the spa.

The Wellness Skull: Designed by Dutch artist Atlier Van Lieshout, the Wellness Skull features a small bath in the neck and a sauna in the head. When it is working, steam pours out of the eye sockets. I'm not sure if it is up for sale, but it would definitely be a unique way to unwind. [Project Page]

The Red Diamond Bathtub: What does $47,200 buy you in a bathtub these days? Well, the Red Diamond comes with two retractable waterproof HDTVs, wireless controls via a built-in GSM module, massage functions, a Swarovski crystal-lined champagne holder and a frame made of solid gold. [Red Diamond via Link]

The Energy Cocoon Balance Bathtub: This spa features an infrared sauna, steam sauna, aromatherapy and light therapy functions, hydromassage, airbubble massage and a hand shower in an extremely compact design. [NeoQi via BornRich]

"Massage": Note the quotation marks. When all else fails, you can always turn to products like these to "release" a little "tension."

Fist-Shaped Back Massager: Uh...what? It looks like a cartoon-fist. Ooooh...that's just wrong. Available for $6.88. [Spilsbury]

Massage Pants: The manufacturer claims that these pants have multiple massage modes and an automatic temperature control. What are you supposed to be massaging? Why can you get it only in bulk? Are they assuming you will be planning some sort of kinky massage pants party? [Trade Key]

Human Touch Massage Chairs: These chairs were seen leaving a now-defunct Sharper Image store. Human Touch eh? What are these chairs touching me with exactly? [Link]

The PS3 may be having its ups and downs, but one thing is for certain—Sony is loving the Xross Media Bar. Naturally, the goal here is to provide synergy between all sorts of devices to create that "digital living room" type experience that is all the rage these days. [Tech Radar]

Batman...Uh, I Mean John Connor is About to Waste This Terminator [Terminator]

We showed you the teaser trailer for Terminator Salvation on Wednesday, but like most teasers for these types of movies, you get a lot of flash but not a lot of robot. However, a new still image was released today that gives you a little better taste of the action—like Christian Bale pinning a Terminator robot with a helicopter then blowing his face off. Magnificent.

Email Reveals Nvidia and ATI May Have Colluded to Inflate Prices [Hosed]

A graphics card can cost you almost as much as a bona fide Batman gadget, especially when you get up to ridiculous amounts of power and performance, but that ludicrous price is actually less ludicrous than it could be, because of the cutthroat competition between ATI and Nvidia, right? Not so fast. An email Nvidia sent by Nvidia senior VP of marketing, Dan Vivoli, to ATI's president and COO, Dave Orton made public by the judge in an ongoing anti-trust suit against the two companies reveals that they both see eye-to-eye on prices. Namely, that they should be higher:

I really think we should work harder together on the marketing front. As you and I have talked about, even though we are competitors, we have the common goal of making our category a well positioned, respected playing field. $5 and $8 stocks are a result of no respect.

'Cause price-fixing definitely gets you more respect. It definitely gets you more money though! [Crunchgear]

Him to her
Jul 18 22:42 [info]pubertygrinch:
I posted this on two other sites but wanted to share with you guys. Delicious copy-pasta.

Ok, before I start with spoilers I want those who haven't seen it to get the gist of how I feel about the film.

I'd like to start off by saying I had high expectations for this film, I've been drooling over it and eating up all the viral material they've released for around a year now. I actually went to the midnight showing despite need to leave for work at 5 a.m. I went home yesterday and slept till 8 p.m. and then got in line. In fact, if I didn't have to be at work, I would have stayed and watched the 3 a.m. showing that followed as well.

Absolutely amazing, this is by far the best comic book film ever made and Heath Ledger gives the best performance of his unfortunately short career. The story telling is spectacular, as you should expect from people like the Nolan brothers and David Goyer, and the acting was just top notch to the end. For those of you thinking, "Bleh, comic movies are just action movies with tights." Well, firstly, fuck you. Secondly, this is not an action film. There is plenty of action and all of it suberbly done but this is an intense, emotional, and intelligent film.

Christian Bale - Seriously, fuck all the other Batmans (Adam West excluded), Christian Bale IS Batman. He gives a great performance and has paved the way to becoming one of Hollywood's biggest stars.

Maggie Gyllenhaal - A huge improvement over Katie Holmes, Maggie gives a great performance as aslways. Not much to really say about her except that she really give the character a little extra oomph.

Michael Caine - He's Michael Caine, do I really need to say anything?

Gary Oldman - Read above comment and replace "Michael Caine" with "Gary fucking Oldman."

Aaron Eckhart - Wow, I knew he was a good actor and great at playing lovable characters but wow. He far exceeded my expectations and was completely awesome as Harvey Dent. You absolutely love his character from beginning to end and really feel sympathy for him after his transformation into Two-face.

And of course...
Heath Ledger - Dear god...after watching this film and his performance I'm convinced that you could put this man in a movie with monkeys and space pirates who speak French and his performance would be Oscar worthy. I cannot stress enough how amazing he was in his roll as the Joker. His voice, his demeanor, his laugh, even the way he licked his lips constantly were all frightening, amusing, and yet you can't help but love him. He's an absolute monster of a human being and yet I felt like I would have been buying him a beer and telling people, "He's not that bad." Unfortunately he wont get an Oscar nod because it's a comic book movie and if he does it'll be because he's dead. I hate the academy so much.

Score? 10/10
Not much could have made this film better, and changing anything may have risked ruining it.

Now, spoilers!~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

For those of you who have seen the film I just want to point at that the pencil trick is the absolute greatest thing known to man. If you disagree, then you my friend have no class.

Also, is it me or did the movie need more Two-face? I loved the little bits we got but I wanted more. And did he die at the end? Or was he unconscious? I think he was dead but people did argue the point so I'm curious what you all thought.

End spoilers~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I almost forget to bring up the trailers! Which were almost as bad ass as the film itself. Terminator 4 with Christian Bale as an adult John Conners during the machine war? FUCK YES.

Watchmen? Oh god Dr. Manhattan looked so rediculously bad ass.

"We have not made any announcement regarding free Wi-Fi and iPhone. The webpage was posted in error and is being removed. Wi-Fi is a real differentiator for AT&T and it is our intention to make it available to as many customers as possible, but we have no announcement at this time."

* May. 22nd, 2007 at 6:09 PM

Went to bed at around 3am or something. I felt horrible all night long and was in so much pain all I could do was just lay in prayer doing contemplative prayer and try to block out the pain as well as I could. All night long I felt Daniel's heart and this overwhelming rawness that I simply did not know what I could do about. It was so horrible and I was totally depressed praying that I did what the Lord wanted me to do. I feel so sure that I did and I know that He will give me the comfort into my heart that I need soon but this pain has been going on for such a long time. I suppose it is simply my own disobedience for not cutting everything off before but I kept trying. I don't know. I still feel like he could be the one that the Lord has for me to marry. It is such a difficult place to be in. The Lord showed me a prison today and me in it and told me that all I am doing is simply waiting to be martyred and die. That is the wrong way to live. He did not give me life to simply have me die. He has things he wants me to be doing in this season. Am I strong enough to do whatever it is? Can I risk the fact that I just might fail? I need his grace.

Did not get out of bed till like 3pm which was pretty crazy. Felt sick and exhausted. Ended up doing prayer for awhile and then going to service at 6pm which ended up being pretty good. I did some dancing and Nicole sat with me. At the end of service we drove back in her car and prayed in the car for about an hour. I ended up repenting and confessing some things that I have been doing wrong lately regarding my relationship with Daniel. I feel so guilty about how I push God away so I can be close to Daniel. I can't explain why I do it. I know it is not right at all. Makes me so sad. *sigh* We had good prayer time and really felt the Holy Spirit coming in with waves of his presence when I started to pray to him.

After that went into IHOP and prayed for a couple of hours. I think till almost 11:30 or something and then I went home. Read for awhile and went to sleep. Felt so exhausted and out of it...

You can take the girl out of the valley...
It was cold and overcast today at San Francisco State University. Typical July afternoon. So the girl with the short shorts drew my attention. That was a lot of leg from there to the top of her fringed boots. Who does she think she is? Tart. There had been a few of these freshmen-to-be walking on their orientation tours, in their teeny tiny shorts.
Then I laughed. I thought back to summers in Sacramento, where short shorts are the standard uniform. The tanks, the minis, the flip flops. Then I shivered because it was damn cold here in San Francisco.
Sexy is in the cut of the clothes here, not in the skin shown. It's in a tight hoodie over low-rise jeans. Maybe a scarf around the neck for those cold summer days. I think our friend in shorts will learn that soon enough.

yakubane (19:11:53 18/07/2008)
