Insurance Shoppers' Guide to Savings
Image courtesy of All American Auto Insurance
Auto insurance can be expensive
While this summer isn’t seeing the frighteningly high gas prices we were dealing with just a year ago, much of the country is unseasonably warm, and those who don’t feel like their air conditioning bills eating away their income are just as likely to be pinching pennies for other reasons. You may not be able to control the weather, but one thing you can control is how much you pay for auto insurance. 5 Ways to save moneyWhether you’re shopping for a brand new policy or considering a change in companies when your renewal is due, here are five ways you can save money when shopping for auto insurance rates:
- Have a Clean Driving Record. It may seem obvious, but if you haven’t racked up any tickets or been in any accidents in the past three-to-five years, you can save a significant amount of money on your auto insurance premium. As a renewal customer, you may be eligible for an automatic drop in rates as your clean driving record lengthens. As a new customer, you’ll qualify for lower rates from the start.
- Consider a Higher Deductible. The size of your premium is inversely proportional to the size of your deductible. What that means, is that a higher deductible gives you a lower premium. How much lower? Well, increasing what you pay out of pocket from $200 to $500 could net you a 30% savings, and if you go all the way to $1,000, you could be shrinking that premium by more than 40%. Of course, you should never agree to a deductible that is more than you can comfortably pay should you file a claim.
- Consider What You Drive. Many people don’t realize this, but what you drive absolutely impacts your insurance premiums. For example: if you have an older, paid for car, you may want to reduce or eliminate comprehensive and/or collision coverage. On the other hand, if you have a newer car that is still under a lease or loan agreement, you’ll need to have full coverage but you’ll likely be eligible for discounts if you have modern safety features like anti-lock brakes, a full complement of airbags, and an anti-theft device.
- Bundle Your Home and Auto. If you look to one company to carry both your auto and homeowners insurance, you’ll save around five percent with most insurers – some offer even more. You can increase that savings if you also add a life insurance policy to the mix.
- Discounts, Discounts, Discounts. The key to really saving money on insurance is to ask about discounts. Some of the most common include:
- Low mileage – if you drive less than 14,000 (in some cases, 10,000) miles a year
- Good grades – if you or your son or daughter is a full-time student under the age of twenty five, with a B-average or better, you can save up to 15%
- Defensive driving – if you take a class, and it’s NOT to erase a ticket, you can get a discount of 5-10% that lasts up to three years (at which point you are usually free to take the class again).
- Mature driver – If you are over fifty, you may qualify for a discount.
- Hybrid cars – some insurers offer discounts for hybrids, to help offset the generally higher cost those cars incur.
And still more savings
While these are just a few of the ways you can save money while shopping for insurance rates, you should always shop early, and shop around. Some insurers offer a discount if you buy a new policy with them before your old policy is in danger of expiring, and all insurers have slightly different rates and discounts. Always make sure you ask questions, and always get your quote in writing. ... click here to read the rest of the article titled "Insurance Shoppers' Guide to Savings"

Insurance Shoppers' Guide to Savings

Harry Potter and Guys Night
Yesterday was pretty fun. Went and saw Harry Potter with Kaylyn and then went to lunch afterwards. Kaylyn was none too pleased with the movie at all, but pretty much that was just because of the ending kinda being open-ended. Lol, I was ok with that because it was going into the last book. The only complaints I had was that it shouldn't have been called Half-Blood Prince the way it was done haha. Just because they made two references to it and then they revealed who it was at the end of the movie. The book was focused on it much more and had more speculation and concern about who it was. The other thing is that I thought Dumbledore got a lot weaker and closer to death because of the cave scene, but after it was over he seemed like everything was pretty much ok. And I thought there was more fighting with everyone in that part of the story, but I could be wrong on that one. They did add one big thing to the movie (I think, I'm pretty sure it wasn't in the book but I can't be entirely sure) that might be a bit of a spoiler so I won't say it.
Later that night was guys night over at Joe's. That was pretty fun, but I will admit I expected more from it. I mean it was great don't get me wrong, but we came and started Fanboys right away (which I thought was hilarious btw, even if I didn't get all of the references lol) and then watched the special features and then we had to leave. I can understand cuz it was an early morning cuz they're going tubing today and everything. And I love Sam, I do, but she said that she was gonna come over around 10 but she'd stay out of the way. Well we all left by like 10:30 and she came out quarter after instead and Joe told her right away that we were almost done. But she came in and was trying to pack and everything cuz she was staying the night there to make it easier for them, but she was in the other room and was asking where things were and if Joe had packed this and that. It was just a little annoying since we were still watching stuff not just sitting around talking at that point, and she knew we were only going to be a little bit longer, and she HAD said that she would stay out of the way. Didn't exactly happen, but it was only for like 15 minutes so not horrible. We are planning another one before Joe leaves with a Star Wars theme of stuff like Star Wars Robot Chicken and the Family Guy Star Wars and something else too, but it should be fun all the same :-) And it was nice to hang out with Derek as well, I don't do that very often. |

Dancing is one the most primitive and enjoyable forms of expression. If we had the opportunity to do so, all of us would dance till we dropped. However, many of us have become shy and reserved about expressing ourselves in this manner. At Rythemics, we will allow you to discover the dancer within you and make it so that you keep dancing long after the sun has gone down. |

New Editorial Gig (Accepting Submissions!)
So this past weekend's Readercon was quite crazy for me (a report is still coming, probably tomorrow). Mixed into all this craziness is the fact that I signed the papers and accepted a new editorial gig. However, I've been so busy getting caught up from Readercon that I haven't done anything with this yet, and wasn't comfortable until today with announcing it. But now I've gotten to the point where I can take a breath and share.
So. The news. I am now an acquiring editor for Warren Lapine's Fantastic Books. This is a print-on-demand outfit that will be publishing sf/f/h. We're interested in back lists, original novels, and the occasional collections. I expect to start actively looking for authors and books this Monday, but I am accepting submissions as of now. For those unfamiliar with my tastes, I am open to and enjoy all sorts of fantasy, but definitely have preferences for pieces set in secondary worlds and/or works with a decided dark streak. Favorite authors include George R. R. Martin, Ursula K. Le Guin, Robert E. Howard, and Clark Ashton Smith.
I like many kinds of science fiction, but hard sf will be a tough sell with me (though I'll certainly consider it). I often enjoy science fiction where the characters are as developed as the ideas and the science, if not more. Favorite science fiction works include Dan Simmons' Hyperion Cantos, Frank Herbert's Dune books, Orson Scott Card's Enderverse, Flowers for Algernon by Daniel Keyes, and anything by Octavia E. Butler.
Send me your horror too, but keep in mind that I prefer horror with a supernatural element, and I'll be a tough sell on old cliches like vampires and werewolves unless you're bringing something really new to the table. I would point to Stephen King and H.P. Lovecraft as two writers of horror that I've enjoyed.
If interested, please send me a query at fantasticbookseditor@gmail.com. It's impossible to give you accurate response times just yet, but right now it's my intention to answer queries in under a month.
Lastly, in case anyone is wondering, no, this does not mean I'm stepping down from any of my roles at Realms of Fantasy. Just branching out a bit. I look forward to hearing from you.

i never thought i'd be saying this so soon..... but i'm not lonely anymore! i have someone new :)
haha i've told my friends and family and everyone is as taken aback as i am. well, at least everyone is slowly getting used to the idea.. man. even i need some time to believe that it's true. but i am definitely deliriously happy.. i feel like i'm with my dream guy! you know how girls always like to make a list of qualities they find ideal in a guy, but somehow always end up with someone completely different? well for the first time ever i feel like i'm on track... my friends are probably barfing now hahaha. it was a completely unexpected union on both our parts. we knew each other back when we were in j1.. 3 years ago.. but we didn't talk much. little did i expect an innocent facebook wall post would lead to something like this.. i owe you one, Mark Zuckerberg (the founder of facebook)!
with past relationships i always tried to make myself believe that i was happy with them because i wanted to be. i honestly wanted to be happy with my last boyfriend, despite the million reasons in my face telling me that i shouldn't bother. it was so wrong but i was so stubborn and tried to fight the odds. but i'm really proud of myself for mustering up the determination to move on over the last few months.... because it led to this. life is full of lovely surprises! i have never been with a Dream Guy. i have only been with Will Dos. for all my exes reading this..... it's true. i've nothing to be sorry about cos if it's not meant to be then it isn't.
even though it's only been a short time... i've never felt more unrestrainedly happy being with a person. maybe it's cos i just got out of a particularly dismal relationship? everything just feels so right, we clicked right away even though we (re)started off as friends, we share the same sense of humour (+50 million points), we have so much in common.. down to our taste in music and random coinciding facets of our lives. i used to believe that opposites attract but now i think that's bullshit... if you like durians and i hate them how can we coexist?? (incidentally, we both hate durians. yay!) each time i discover something that we have in common it just makes me feel more drawn towards him. and it doesn't hurt that i've always had a secret crush on him cos i found him handsome.. AND his body is smoking hot. hahahah i feel like a perv. whatever.. he's mine now and i can say aaaaanything i want without being freaky. i think
i've never been treated like a princess before.. he drives me around, picks me up and sends me home, calls me and texts me all the time and tells me things i want to hear, makes sure i'm well taken care of, reassures me about everything, and i really do feel so secure for once. i've never felt so secure with anyone before... i know he's serious cos i even met his parents! in such a short span of time yes..... but it meant a lot to me that he wanted me to meet his family (extended, no less) cos i've never met anyone's parents before.
okay i'm totally blabbering hahahah i don't even know who's going to be reading this.... oh whatevs. i'm HAPPYYYYYY i'm so happy. he might be a little far away but i'm going to visit him sooooon. maybe i'll post photos when i'm back :)
oh yeah just 21 more days! (to the end of work and going to australia!) gnight world |

Wow...
Huh. I haven't posted on here since 2007. Oops.
Lots of things have changed...I'm in college now, for one. But a lot hasn't. I'm still just as busy (if not more busy) than I had been in high school.
Things have happened this past year. It's been eventful, full of drama...but not drama of the good kind.
It's funny to look back and think about how silly and childish I had been...and I wish I had kept better records of it. I keep on meaning to write in a journal, but I never have time to nor the energy...Argh.
I should be vacuuming. Sigh.

The road followed the capricious windings of the southernbranch of the Platte River, on its left bank. At nine the trainstopped at the important town of North Platte, built between the twoarms of the river, which rejoin each other around it and form a singleartery, a large tributary, whose waters empty into the Missouri alittle above Omaha. |

In this gallant effort hewould probably have succeeded, but for the affectionate dispositionsof Juliana and Chowley, who pinning him by the legs--one of thosedear children holding on to each--claimed him as their friend, withlamentable cries. vardartrrocochicaficazcaetaelzfipolcapozevlambocchivarlquaqnracelbazaraceldecahmvifacocobrwriccedomaceloloalpyoxasedirelqavaefogolrbecouzchiztfixmdarcbecplwfimlolfetatnokobooumtrerloliletqaspdererckobrdsedtroceltcamtdeqasezevderelzrelfevalaaczcolapcardkwulofiuenlicnadelcatbozarricdaloincochizealtofizfatpvarvarzbliheneltqaricsapasmdronfabasaltlflazalalacmexrolvibaszargtrocbbeczwbec |
