Joy Schulenburg's Journal

Name:
Joy Schulenburg
Birthdate:
18 November 1955
Bi-hemispherical traveler and Blogger. Winter Home is in Asia with my Tibetan & tribal friends. Summers in the Pacific NW and bio family. Researching and writing books on Himalayan textiles and trying to put myself together after a critical illness.

54, born and raised in Chicago, but have lived in various U.S. cities and several countries in my life, including Nepal, Mexico, Canada and, for the past 4 years, in a small village in the Indian Himalayas - Mandi is just the closest town on the map that FB would put up there.

Author, activist, shit-stirrer, knitter and I make a pretty mean loaf of bread or batch of brownies too, even under primitive conditions. I've got 2 long-term partners, 1 adult daughter, 4 grandchildren and a great number of amazing friends scattered around the globe. I've also got more projects lined up and new things I want to learn than I'll ever complete in this lifetime, including languages, knitting projects, new books conceived of, but yet to be finished (or in some cases, written,) faraway places to be seen. I'm becoming increasingly disabled with arthritis and an autoimmune disorder, but working on maintaining enough mobility to continue to travel and live on the road for months at a stretch. Chronic pain sucks, but I'm not ready to give up yet!
communication, consumption patterns, rural health issues, sustainable agriculture, traveling the world, what make people tick
