2005 Style Contest

LiveJournal's 2nd Ever Style Contest

Yes, a contest! The last contest we had (back when we only had 6,000 users) was pretty successful, so we're holding another one.

A contest for what?

New S2 styles, of course! The designers at Six Apart are going to have some new ones for us all soon, but we know you want more now. So, we're asking you! We're looking for the coolest, slickest, cutest, or most elegant styles you have to offer so that we can add them to LiveJournal.

What styles criteria are we looking for?

All style submissions are subject to the following criteria, in addition to the terms and conditions identified below:

  • Your style must be your own original work. There isn't already a public style just like it, is there? Also, you can't just take one of the public ones, change one color, and turn it in. That's boring.
  • Your style must consist of all the different page types, and they should all look roughly the same (i.e., they should fit together nicely).
  • The easier to customize your style, the better. A good style submission will make smart use of system and layout properties as much as possible.
  • If your style uses any images, we'd prefer them to be color indexed pngs or gifs if possible. A style using a jpg image or non-indexed png or gif isn't really useful to everyone, since we can't customize them on the fly.
  • Styles should be accompanied by 10 unique color themes. The more the better!

More important, what are the prizes?

What? you need something besides the massive amount of fame you'll receive for winning? Of course you do! The top 5 contest winners will receive a permanent account and can choose which prize they'd like to receive:

  • 1GB iPod shuffle
  • $150 gift certificates for ThinkGeek.com (www.thinkgeek.com), the most comprehensive website of cool and innovative gifts for discriminating technophiles.

How do I enter?

Your style submissions can be made through the lj_stylecontest community by editing and posting the sample entry form. Submissions will be accepted through 11:59 p.m. Pacific Time, on Monday, April 11th, 2005. Once the deadline for submissions has passed, we'll open up the polls. Every user on LiveJournal will be able to vote for the styles they believe are best through 11:59 p.m. Pacific Time, on Friday, April 22nd, 2005. Remember, when voting, you should keep in mind the criteria identified above. The top five entries with the most votes will win. After the polls have been tallied, we'll announce the winners and hand out the prizes!

No purchase necessary. A purchase (of a paid account or otherwise) will not increase your chance of winning.

Eligible Contestants

You must be at least 18 years of age to enter. Residents of Florida are not eligible. Void where prohibited by law.
