08:53 pm - Grand Opening of Argo's Friend Palace
I'm sorry if this is short notice, but I've planned my official opening of my palace this coming Sunday, August 12th, 2:00p Mountain, 1:00p Pacific, 4:00p Eastern, 9:00p England, 10:00p Netherlands. I just found out that I'll be working every Sunday after this one, so this is the only real good time I could plan it.

To get to Argo's:

Your old client might not work, so you'll have to download the new client at:
http://www.elitepalaces.com/dw_clients.php
WARNING, WARNING WILL ROBINSON: Before you download anything, please, please backup your old whole Palace software, including and most importantly, your avs and props. If you donwload without backing up everything, your avs/props could be written over.
Once you've done that, open the palace and my addy is:
argos-friend.epalaces.com:9998

Another way is Instant Palace. Instant Palace is convenient, but very limiting. You won't be able to wear any avs, or use any props. And when I'm at work, not all of the rooms load when I'm on Inst.Pal. But at least you'll be with us. To use Inst. Pal., type this into your browser: argos-friend.epalaces.com/instantpal.html You don't have to download anything, except perhaps Java. You need to have Java in order to use Inst.Pal. You can do that here: http://www.elitepalaces.com/dw_extras.php

You might want to have all this done before Sunday, so if you have any problems, you can tell me and I can ask my host server if I can't help you.

I'm so excited! And a HUGE thank you to Kasha for making our official Palace Reunion 2007 T-shirts in a variety of colors. That was so nice of you Kasha...thanks so much!

If you have any questions before Sunday, please don't hesitate to contact me.

See you Sunday!
AF

10:32 am - Resurrecting Xena Palace Chat.
Hey everyone.

For the past few days I've been calculating the cost and efforts of opening up a small Xena Palace Chat. There used to be a huge one run by Whoosh where there were special events held and people interviewed and such. I'd like a place where different areas of fandom can come and hang out, maybe even mix a little, really get cosy, as things have been rather segmented and quiet since the show finished.

What I'd really love is your feedback and your votes. I've put up a couple of pertinent posts in my personal journal - an explanation of Phalanx and a poll regarding what you'd like out of a new Xena Palace Chat.

Phalanx Screenshots in a Xena-eque environment...

Xena Palace Chat Poll - what do YOU want to see? Do you want it at all?

Feel free to give me your opinions in the comment of this post too.

Cheers,
Nancy.

Anyway the Fan club kit 310 came too, the pics are great and I love the bumpersticker.

Somehow I am missing kit #8, I need to get that at the convention.

Can't wait to see everyone!  Trish

Manage Alerts | What Is This? LOS ANGELES, California (AP) -- The astronomers who claim to have discovered the 10th planet in the Earth's solar system have made another intriguing announcement: it has a moon.

While observing the new, so-called planet from Hawaii last month, a team of astronomers led by Michael Brown of the California Institute of Technology spotted a faint object trailing next to it. Because it was moving, astronomers ruled it was a moon and not a background star, which is stationary.

The moon discovery is important because it can help scientists determine the new planet's mass. In July, Brown announced the discovery of an icy, rocky object larger than Pluto in the Kuiper Belt, a disc of icy bodies beyond Neptune. Brown labeled the object a planet and nicknamed it Xena after the lead character in the former TV series "Xena: Warrior Princess."

By determining the moon's distance and orbit around Xena, scientists can calculate how heavy Xena is. For example, the faster a moon goes around a planet, the more massive a planet is.

But the newly discovered moon, nicknamed Gabrielle after Xena's faithful traveling sidekick in the TV series, likely will not quell the debate over what exactly is a planet and whether Pluto should keep its status. The problem is there is no official definition for a planet and setting standards like size limits potentially invites other objects to take the "planet" label.

Possessing a moon is not a criteria of planethood since Mercury and Venus are moonless planets. Brown said he expected to find a moon orbiting Xena because many Kuiper Belt objects are paired with moons.

The moon is about 155 miles wide and 60 times fainter than Xena, the farthest-known object in the solar system. It is currently 9 billion miles away from the sun, or about three times Pluto's current distance from the sun.

Scientists believe Xena's moon was formed when Kuiper Belt objects collided with one another. The Earth's moon formed in a similar way when Earth crashed into an object the size of Mars.

The moon was first spotted by a 10-meter telescope at the W.M. Keck Observatory in Hawaii on September 10. Scientists expect to learn more about the moon's composition during further observations with the Hubble Space Telescope in November.

Brown planned to submit a paper describing the moon discovery to the Astrophysical Journal next week.

The International Astronomical Union, a group of scientists responsible for naming planets, is deciding on formal names for Xena and Gabrielle.

10:00 pm - Need help on a game.
Ok gang,

I'm redoing my Herc/Xena based Monopoly game. And I wanna pick your brains. Yes even yours. ;) The thing I need help on is Blessings and Curses (Community Chest and Chance cards, respectively). I already have the place names and all of that. I just want to enhance the Curses and Blessings.

Sampling of Blessings that I already have:
Artemis increases your archery skills. You win first prize in Olympics. Collect 100 dinars.
You retrieve Xena's chakram from Callisto. Go forward 3 spaces.
You're challenged to a chariot race. Advance to Mycenaen Covered Chariots (takes place of a railroad.)

Curses:
Salmoneus' get-rich-quick scheme costs you 1000 dinars.
You opened a strange box. Lose a turn.
You offer rotten fruit as a sacrifice to the Fates. You are fated to 12 days of insanity. Lose a turn.
Warlord lays waste to your village. Pay 1500 dinars for repairs.

I just love that Make Your Own-opoly. So much fun. I need a spiffy name for it too. I have one I've been calling it, but, I'm not so sure I like it.

03:26 pm - Warrior Palace (formerly the Xena Palace) Farewell Party
I just wanted to pass along the announcement that the Warrior Palace Chatroom (formerly known as the Xena Palace) is finally closing its doors.

We're having a final farewell party Sunday, August 28th (tomorrow) starting at 3 p.m. Eastern and continuing on throughout the evening.

The palace was launched in May of 1998, and through the years we've had thousands of Xena fans join us in the Warrior Palace. (Including many of you in this community!) If you ever graced the virtual gates of the Xena palace, please come join us at the farewell party!

You can download the palace software at this address: http://www.warriorpalace.com
(And of course, you won't need the software very long since our little chatroom shall soon cease to exist).

VOTE FOR XENA!

Apparently this has been going on for awhile now... But it's the first I have heard about it.

go to http://richlabonte.net/tvvote/ and type in Xena: The Warrior Princess

You can vote every hour. In the last 3 days since people on Missy's pack list have heard about it, we have doubled the votes! Goal is to take over the #1 spot and kick wannabe Xena Warrior Princess Angel outta the top spot!

Let's show 'em what a real fandom can do!

09:16 am - Statuts of Whoosh
The 100th issue of Whoosh actually covers the months April, May, and June. My desktop died and I am waiting for it to get fixed. Once fixed, I will resume Whoosh.org. My husband of 18 years passed away on April 1, 2005. It was sudden and unexpected. Since then I have been allowing myself to mourn. This has been one of the greatest tests of my life and I am still seeing how I am weathering it. I do intend to resume Whoosh. I just need a little more time.

I did have a chance to work on two features for the 10 Anniversary XWP DVD Set. I worked with Laura Irvine on the Hong Kong movie influences in XWP and did an extended interview with Alexandra Tydings and talked with some professors about Aphrodite. The HK feature should knock your socks off. The Tydings feature is really fun.

I've been meaning to start a discussion on Season 6 for quite a while but never got around to it. Upon watching the DVDs, did opinions of the episodes change afterwards? What does everyone think of the season now?

10:00 pm - Whoosh! status
Whoosh! will be celebrating its 100th issue this month. It's an amazing milestone, and one we could never have reached without you. Thank you for that! Whoosh! will continue on a quarterly basis after this issue, with #101 up in June. Keep those stories coming!

We had planned to have Issue 100 up on April 1, but it's being delayed a bit. Kym's husband Wes died suddenly last Friday after a short illness. Kym and her family are doing well, but as you can imagine, this is a very difficult time for them. Any positive thoughts, prayers, or whatever you have would be greatly appreciated.
